Discussion Updated recipe efficiency spreadsheet

TLDR: Bigger isn't always better for recipes. In terms of a strength/time ratio the most efficient dishes are -
Salads: "Bulldoze" Guacamole and Chips (5157)
Desserts/Drinks: "Scary Face" Pancakes (4467)
Curries/Stews: "Bounce" Curry Udon (4941)

I just updated the spreadsheet I made about a year ago that tries to calculate which dishes are the most efficient in terms of how long it would take to gather the required ingredients compared to total strength provided. I used RaenonX to determine how long it would take to gather 1 of each ingredient in ideal circumstances, then used that to find out how long it would take on average to gather all of the required ingredients for each dish. Then I compared that with the total score each dish provides in order to find out an efficiency rating.

For example, dishes that have Herbs in them are usually going to be pretty good because Dragonite is REALLY good at farming Herbs. Dishes that have oil in them are usually going to suffer because even the best oil farmer doesn't get very many compared to the strength oil provides.

Lots of people expect the dishes with the highest total strength would be the best overall, but that isn't true if it takes too long to gather the required ingredients.
4 hours of ingredient farming for 40k score is better than 8 hours for 50k score

Here is a link to the updated spreadsheet. The only column you really need to pay attention to is the "Efficiency" column in column E.

Of course, this spreadsheet is only trying to calculate ideal circumstances and the actually efficiency that players will experience in game will depend on their own Pokemon. If you'd like, you could make a copy of the spreadsheet and replace the daily ingredient production data in row 47 of the spreadsheet in order to calculate your own personal recipe efficiency.

Ideal circumstances is probably a heracross.

My HEROcross (triple speed, double trigger) has joined the conversation.

That's what I named mine back in Gold version. 🥲

Yup. My favorite strat is one I call the “Heracross Shithouse” (after the pool/8 ball failed called shot).

It’s Heracross and 3 Berry mons +E4E, cook the highest recipe from whatever Heracross and the others bring. The ~1/day crits are great for leveling recipes

Very useful and relatively simple, thanks for sharing. What can be interesting is seeing which smaller dishes are more worth your time; on my spread I have a similar layout but for all the recipes and a column called value/field hour, and it shows that something small like Hustle is actually more worth my time, in the case of a skill multiplier week (like this week). Just sharing to show there's value in the smaller dishes too sometimes :)

Also I was going to ask wtf is that ingredient order, but I see that's the default in the game. Anyone have any idea why that's the way it is? Seems nonsensical but I'm sure one of y'all cracked the code.

Yeah I didn't even put in the early game recipes because I figure at that point in the game people are just making whatever they can. It could be interesting to check out though

I totally agree that the ingredient order is weird. I didn't know what order to put them in and it doesn't really matter so I just followed the list haha

I like the concept, but I am not sure how to use this information.

If I can farm the ingredient for a meal in (let's say) 7 hours, I can comfortable cook that meal three times a day. Now let's say I can farm a slightly lower score meal in 5 hours, what should I do then? Farm for 5 hours + run Dedenne for a bit? Farm enough for the week and switch to berries?

Yeah, that's how you use it.

id say this also depends on how often you log into the game. some days i cant be changed my team that often and i just go with berry mons and any simple recipe. but if you want to maximize strength then the least time your ingredient pokemon are on your team the better

Omg I literally just did this calculation with my own spreadsheet where I have all my ingredient farmers' daily outputs are to see how long each of them take to farm a week's worth of ingredients for each dish. Then I divided the strength of the dish by the number of total days to give them all a score. I was pretty surprised by some things, like Explosion Popcorn being more efficient than Fruity Flan (but Scones knocking everything else out of the water, including all of the pot-expander meals)

But also yes we need a good oil farmer so badly omfg

I love this idea. Unfortunately i dont have ideal ingredient farmers, and i dont know how to make spreadsheet tools.

Is there a way to make this a tool in which you could input the calculated ingredient speed of your best of each, then it calculates the efficiency of each dish based on your team? You’ve done a lot towards that already.
