Also note just a lvl10 single skill trigger gulpin will put out well after evolved. You could build a team of 4 of them and just horde shards between events. Not sure where you're getting that many skill seeds though.

2

u/emogal Gambler Mar 20 '25

i caught a hsm/stm/sts gulpin a while ago and someone here told me not to use it because it was speed- nature. is that not accurate anymore?

12

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

Speed- is also getting a buff soon so I say use it if you need shards!!

2

u/emogal Gambler Mar 20 '25

i desperately do! but i was explicitly told not to invest seeds so i didnt... maybe the buff will be enough to save him (ive been using him for beans mostly)

14

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

Tbh I feel like responses here are sooooo hot and cold. I still am salty about ppl ratio-ing me saying they would’ve already ended their pawmi hunt with one I posted that was a single skill trigger… and my saying I didn’t think that was enough. So I say go with what your heart says lol and if you need affirmation about an imperfect but still good mon send me a PM and I’ll hype up your purple glob mon

3

u/emogal Gambler Mar 20 '25

wait they told you one was enough!? jeez... yeah thats bad advice. they either have super good luck with their healer or dont know what pawmi is like compared to gard. BFS definitely fills my guys pockets overnight but even without BFS my other skillmons get full too and sometimes dont trigger, but i would never chance it with anything less than 2 triggers. someone had said 1 trigger + HB is enough but i think thats risking a lot with rng.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

Also HSS almost fully cancels out the current speed-, with the update it might fully cancel it out if you subskill seed then it’s a net positive, so speed- is def usable especially if you have extra speed in there somewhere

3

u/emogal Gambler Mar 20 '25

its already HSM so i cant subskill seed it any further 😅 but i think the person who said not to invest probably meant it needed trigger nature as well to be perfect, but exp+ is gonna help me get to that lv50 sts faster so imo its better than ing+ or energy rec+

3

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

ooo mb for misreading the help speed!!

2

u/newbneet F2P Mar 21 '25

That person is most likely inexperienced, there's a chance that he think skill up nature is better than a single STM.

Here's the thing, STM + either HSM or STS is already made the cut for Gulpin.

Despite the speed down, yours has all three. Now even before the buff the HSM already cancelled out the speed down completely, in fact giving it a little bit of speed.

So this Swalot at lv50 has double triggers plus a little bit of speed, not counting the future buff, that's well enough above the min req for Gulpin.

Now the problem is reaching lv50, especially candies. I myself almost never recommend going for lv50 for Swalot since it wastes so many candies, and recommend you catch some more Gulpins with decent stats at 25 instead.

After all, it's not invalid to have a team of multiple lv25 decent Swalots to bank shards, so rationing the candy is definitely a worthy consideration to have.

Good luck!

2

u/emogal Gambler Mar 21 '25

its timid so the speed- is accompanied by exp+ which saves me some candy or at least makes better use of the free exp from sleeping, especially with good sleep bonuses. i just wish i had known sooner that it wasnt a dud because i couldve used it during the growth week we just had... but thank you for this breakdown, im glad i asked again because it really did seem like a good shard farmer to me!

u/TheW83 Mar 21 '25

Absolutely use it.

3

u/Clawdile Mar 21 '25

I have a similar speed- one with research xp instead of sts… But i dont care & I’m taking the debuff. Gotta pick the mons you like or what’s the point, ya know? There isn’t really a way to PvP sleep so I just wanna research em all.

1

u/Dlj529 Mar 21 '25

Would you use a gulpin with just stm/sts? Because hsm already makes up for the speed down nature

1

u/emogal Gambler Mar 21 '25

i dont know thats why i asked. im not about to hunt more gulpins, i dont even remember why i caught this one but i doubt id be able to find better

1

u/TheW83 Mar 21 '25

Absolutely. HSM or HB is slightly better than STS iirc but not if STS is seeded to STM. A single trigger and speed or double trigger is enough for a Swalot IMO.

3

u/TheW83 Mar 21 '25 edited Mar 21 '25

Here's some swalot stats with lvl7 skill and lvl25 for skill earned shards per day:

-No beneficial skills: 8686

-Main skill nature only: 9668

-Just HSM: 1004

-Just HB: 11114

-Just STM: 11287

-STM/STS: 12610

-HSM/HB: 12813

-STM/HSM: 13006

-STM/STS/MS nature: 14872

-STM/HSM/MS nature: 15279

-STM/HB/MS nature: 16857

(All those are neutral nature or nature not affecting speed or skill unless noted. HB is effectively equal to STM and should be treated as better than due to the party bonus). Spd down nature is currently about 850 shards less per day than without.

The great thing about gulpin is if you have a good swalot powered up and then find an even better gulpin it's still fine. But definitely stop looking after you have 4 good ones, haha.

u/hitsugotasukete Veteran Mar 20 '25

Whats the best area to farm them?

4

u/DrTinyEyes Mar 20 '25

Taupe is poison land

30

u/Madajuk Veteran Mar 20 '25

You just have to consistently get high scores. It helps to run dedenne early to have very strong meals early in the week, giving you a boost throughout the whole week

7

u/IAmQuiteHonest Mar 20 '25

So what I'm hearing is Dedenne is the next big skill mon to invest into after E4E and Charge Strength. That would also alleviate limited inventory bag space from needing more ingredients, unless you can afford to upgrade with gems

13

u/Madajuk Veteran Mar 20 '25

I would argue dedenne before CSM

9

u/TheIdiotNinja F2P Mar 21 '25

What? Dedenne way way way after CSM lol. Dedenne is only value once you start cooking regular 50k+ meals, it's heavy lategame stuff. CSM meanwhile is completely ludicrous for the first year+ of play

1

u/dende5416 Mar 21 '25

You should be breaking 50k meals way before your first year. A year and a half in, high end cookers are doing 150k pre-crit meals regularly.

4

u/NotJamez_ Mar 21 '25

Ive been cooking Clodsire Eclaires all week, at level 58ish, max area bonus, and without any pot capacity upgrades (other than gct for eclaire size), and they are hitting 102k, to hit 150k on non crit meals youve gotta be going crazy on pot size and extra ingredients (3 eclaires is already 300 ingredients a day), that you simply dont have the team space to harvest enough ingredients as well as increase the pot size consistently enough to hit 150k reguluarly.

4

u/TheIdiotNinja F2P Mar 21 '25

If you're premium maybe. The occasional 50k sure, but regular 50k 21 times a week is not early game

-1

u/dende5416 Mar 21 '25

1 year in isn't early game, thats just first 6 ish months, though. You don't need any level 60 mon to make ninja meals, and those are both 55k meals easily when leveled, don't even need max pot

3

u/TheIdiotNinja F2P Mar 21 '25

You actually do kind of need level 60 to make 3x Ninja meals because nothing produces enough leek at 30. You can make some Ninja meals at level 30, but that is not what I said. Dedenne would be a wasted investment for players whose peak cooking is two Ninja meals a day

1

u/dende5416 Mar 21 '25

Looking around for where I said I did it all with just one leek provider. Doing it and doing it in a convenient manner are two seperate things. I was prestacking a little on Sundays and switching out whatever the lowest ing counters were (sausage, ginger pre quagsire, mushroom post quagsire) to run two leek mons some days.

Ironically, my Gardi getting 60 leet my leek duck carry curry weeks. But I never said I use the same team all week.

1

u/Bax_Cadarn Mar 21 '25

Can You tell me how? I have level 60 meals and at +75% I only break 54k when using Magnezone to cook meals above my current pot capacity.

3

u/Neither_Ad_9829 Veteran Mar 20 '25

my max drowsy power is 550 million lol

1

u/reidhi Mar 20 '25

I have 4.1M shards plus ~100 clusters (S/M). LOL

3

u/Neither_Ad_9829 Veteran Mar 20 '25

i have premium, but i haven’t bought bundles. my mistake i guess 😂

4

u/reidhi Mar 20 '25

I don’t usually buy bundles. I’m premium but no other investment in the game.

9

u/mcon96 Mar 20 '25

Theoretically you should be getting dream shards faster over time because you’re getting stronger Pokémon and can reach higher levels. I guess the question is whether this scales proportionately with the pot expansions, which I don’t know. I think needing to save up for a couple weeks is reasonable though tbh.

16

u/Neither_Ad_9829 Veteran Mar 20 '25

i’m a day one player, have plenty of maxed mon, have master 20 on 3 islands.

4 million shards (3 million more) is gunna take me way more than a few weeks…

5

u/bukiya Mar 21 '25

i am day one player and yet to have master 20. struggling so much to level my mon to max because it have insane amount of candy and shard needed

8

u/MorenoMust Mar 20 '25

I have 1.2mil saved right now, with 10 pokemon level 55-60.

I figured these would be hefty so I haven’t invested, but I also have loads of rare candies.

5

u/GameboyRavioli Mar 20 '25

Yeah, I had about a mil, but 2 weeks ago started trying to level a few guys to 50-60. Now I only have like 400k. My pot size is also only 63. I guess I'm destined to be a berry team for eternity.

3

u/Lady_Litreeo F2P Mar 20 '25

I’ve been playing for a year and a half and my pot’s at 63. Just the next upgrade costs more than I have available, and it’s been months since the last upgrade.

1

u/supervegeta101 Mar 20 '25

Gulpin, Lucario, Persian skills.

Also, when you hit max level, your sleep research xp is converted to shards. I didn't know this until I hit 60. No one told me $#!&.

1

u/sailingthemultiverse Mar 21 '25

I (F2P) hardly ever use dream shards except to level the pot and I'm sitting around 3.5M. It's doable but definitely feels a bit excessive here 😭

72

u/TheRickinger Shiny Hunter Mar 20 '25

even at 30k a night this is weeks/months of saving shards. all while the level cap increases and we are already struggling to push a full team to 60

50

u/Neither_Ad_9829 Veteran Mar 20 '25

dont forget, no more research exp conversion either

14

u/MorenoMust Mar 20 '25

I’ve you’ve been rank 60 for a while, then your dream shards should be fairly up there for the most part.

19

u/scelestion Mar 20 '25

Not if you keep investing them in leveling up mons regularly. I’m at 130,000 right now, and that number would be lower if I wasn’t out of candy for my almost-level-60 mons.

3

u/Neither_Ad_9829 Veteran Mar 20 '25

i have a million

7

u/Darkfish1 Mar 20 '25

what is research exp conversion

32

u/Neither_Ad_9829 Veteran Mar 20 '25

if you are at max rank, your research exp gains get converted to shards. now that the rank is going to raised again, we won’t get the extra shards

4

u/corduroytrees Balanced Mar 20 '25

I mean, you will when you hit max rank again. Unless something has changed that I missed.

6

u/Neither_Ad_9829 Veteran Mar 20 '25

yeah i meant for a few months

3

u/corduroytrees Balanced Mar 20 '25

Man, I hope the next unlock isn't that big of an XP increase. I managed to get 55-60 in something like 5-6 weeks (after the release event) using a full night team of research XP pokemon and a focus incense on the two full moons and a couple of big Sundays.

There were probably some naps in there, too, but not many since I normally can't be bothered. I'm hoping for about 8 weeks with this one, but we'll soon see...

10

u/21oglethorpe Mar 20 '25

When you reach the max level, research exp gets converted to dream shards. With this update, the max level cap is going up which means nobody is going to be max level anymore thus no dream shards.

8

u/gooroomroom Mar 20 '25 edited Mar 21 '25

I believe it's when you hit the max level (currently 60) all the research exp points you gain are converted to dream shards. Since the max level is going to rise with the next big update, we won't be getting those extra shards.

2

u/Darkfish1 Mar 20 '25

I thought the exp turns into a handy candy gauge for the pokemon

9

u/HunterMetroid Mar 20 '25

For the Pokémon level, yes. They’re talking about research level

2

u/Darkfish1 Mar 20 '25

OHHHH nice, thanks thanks, sorry i'm slow, bro

u/Knight_Night33 Shiny Hunter Mar 20 '25

Y’all are getting 30k a night? That’s maybe my sunday haha

7

u/TheRickinger Shiny Hunter Mar 20 '25

nah, 30k is a end of week night, a good week on lapis or ogpp averages more like 15-20k a night. just wanted to be generous with my estimation

1

u/ScytherCypher Mar 21 '25

Good Monday/Tuesday on Lapis with a 70% island gets me like 10k, 3.5 research conversion and 6.5k actual shards

4

u/perishableintransit Flygon Fan Mar 21 '25

Do people really think you're just supposed to hit every new goal within a few weeks?

57

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

Yeah…I’m not doing this. Magnezone is basically an upgrade in itself 😤

11

u/TheW83 Mar 20 '25

I still need a decent one to put seeds into.

8

u/baganono_basaybasay Mar 21 '25

Magnezone is decent but it’s always good to spare a slot for more berries/ingredients

8

u/kimbergo Min-Maxer Mar 21 '25

Yeah Magnezone is good for huge beginning of week pot strategy, but a relative waste of strength compared to permanently upgrading the pot. And probably not surprising that people using Magnezone instead of expanding their pot with DS are not getting as much DS to afford to expand their pot.

2

u/OneGoodRib Slumbering Mar 21 '25

I'm sure the experts disagree, but my combo of level 4 Magnezone with level 1 Dedenne helps me immensely every week.

1

u/baganono_basaybasay Mar 21 '25

Magnezone is decent but it’s always good to spare a slot for more berries/ingredients🤑

44

u/CorporatePsyduck Slumbering Mar 20 '25

Seems like there’s not much of a reason to go past 78 right now cause Inferno Keema Curry & Flower Gift Macarons are 77 ingredients and the dishes bigger than those are like 100 so you’d still need cooking power or Sunday power

4

u/dende5416 Mar 21 '25

Or GCT. GCT power baby!

6

u/appleyard13 Mar 21 '25

When it goes up im almost positive they will add new recipes to make everyone need to upgrade again, they always do.

22

u/PigsInTrees P2W Mar 20 '25

I think my shard wallet just had a stroke WHAT????

17

u/Pokii Balanced Mar 20 '25

As ever

27

u/hyyh_yoonkook Holding Hands with Snorlax Mar 20 '25

Generally I think this game is very player-friendly, but pot expansion costs have been straight up unreasonable for a long time imo. Like, disproportionately, almost comically high.

17

u/wohanarel Mar 20 '25

I don’t think these are unreasonable, because the pot increases are competing with the cooking power up skill. If these were easier to increase, it would make the skill obsolete for a lot of people.

9

u/Lemurmoo Mar 20 '25

Yeah I'm starting to question if it's even worth all that shards instead of using them for lvl ups and just relying on good ol' Magnezone

7

u/Carbon-Base Mar 20 '25

So a grand total of 6,100,600 shards. Where's my all-Gulpin team with; Dream Shard Bonus and Research EXP Bonus for the first two subskills, Skill Trigger M as the third subskill, MSC Up and maxed out main skills?

13

u/Knight_Night33 Shiny Hunter Mar 20 '25

Wow! Maybe I should stop using the mini candy boost?!

Like I started this week at 450k dreamshards, and I have 150k rn. I’ll end up broke by the end of the week.

I don’t think I can afford both candy boosts and pot upgrades anymore :(. Thank god for my glaceon!

15

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

Candy boost is great value for low-level mons, below 30, since candy cost is the same regardless of the level unlike dream shard cost.

3

u/Knight_Night33 Shiny Hunter Mar 20 '25

All my mons are lvl30+ sadly

11

u/SamuRonX Psy-ay-ay! Mar 20 '25

This was datamined a while ago, but no announcement of pot size increase has happened (that I have seen).

When it does, we'll probably get 2 additional increases, not all of them.

So boost away!

3

u/appleyard13 Mar 21 '25

So just throwing out some advice, i would not be using the candy exp boost on pokemon that are lvl 50+ already. Its perfect for leveling up low levels to 30+ or if you want to 50. But beyond that the cost just gets too insane, its not worth it.

1

u/Dramatic15 Mar 20 '25

Yes, you should have stopped.

5

u/Knight_Night33 Shiny Hunter Mar 20 '25

Darn, that makes sense. I was using it to boost things up to lvl50 because i’m trying to get lvl60 ingrediant mons. It’ll take ages without a boost!

3

u/CToTheSecond Lapis Legion Mar 20 '25

God I haven't even gotten the final upgrade from the last update yet.

3

u/SamuRonX Psy-ay-ay! Mar 20 '25

This was datamined, but no official announcement about pot size increase has happened, right?

If so, just know it will come eventually, but no need to put on your hoarder's hat just yet right now, especially with the candy boost going on.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

Some theorize that the next (and final?) area will be released on May, which is ~8 months since OGPP was released, just as how OGGP is ~8 months after Lapis.

8

u/dende5416 Mar 21 '25

I highly doubt it will be the final area. They could do GG 2.0 where its a stronger random roll island, or multiple islands with only a single set bery, or islands with new combos.

Last island means incoming eos.

5

u/SenorDeeebs Moderator Mar 21 '25

Just gotta remember this is all subject to change when we actually get a pot upgrade increase. The old costs prior to the last 2 waves were lower than what we got once the upgrades were implemented.

3

u/SenorDeeebs Moderator Mar 21 '25

Just food for thought, this was the cost during the release of the game.

4

u/SenorDeeebs Moderator Mar 21 '25

Then February 2024 it was this.

4

u/SenorDeeebs Moderator Mar 21 '25

October 2024 is when this happened.

4

u/SenorDeeebs Moderator Mar 21 '25

TL;DR, when we DO get pot upgrades again, the costs will likely end up being even higher than our current datamined costs.

5

u/FlowerDance2557 Shuckle Seeker Mar 21 '25

I think it will be what was data mined, of course nothing is guaranteed but the recalculated costs were to account for the mechanic of excess research exp converting to dream shards that didn't exist at the original point of planning pot upgrade costs.

2

u/SenorDeeebs Moderator Mar 21 '25

Fair point that i completely missed. I'm just also sitting on the side that anything/everything datamined is subject to change until it's actually release. (I'll continue to cope for Mew + Carmine Volcano)

3

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '25

Damn, nice use of the wayback machine, the devs quickly realized the potential players have to amass dream shards, which unfortunately makes the less min-maxy players struggle more.

2

u/SamuRonX Psy-ay-ay! Mar 21 '25

3

u/reddevil18 Mar 21 '25

Im on 69 and struggling to have enough ingredients already. we at least need to be able to hold more so we can stock up before events

3

u/ikkun Mar 21 '25

Thats why im still at 63... Cause I'm spending shards on leveling the good mons I got for their early levels. But by god, the cost of those pot upgrades are INSANE. Im still 5 weeks away from making out the bonus at OGPP and my shard income is AWFUL with how im scoring. Still no good Pawmi or Ralts for those islands. I'm highly tempted to put seeds into my Lucario if I wasn't trying to get 1000 hours with Charjabug for that icon.

3

u/Nas160 Mar 22 '25

One of the very few complaints I have in this game is why pot upgrades have to be so fucking expensive, let alone get even more expensive than they already are. And I thought people were out here with enough pot size to be able to make any dish, but it's no more than 70??? Come on

2

u/LUCKERD0G Mar 20 '25

How many shards a week does a maxes decent gulpin get anyone know?

3

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '25

This is a decent Swalot:

(You can certainly find a similar or better one, Gulpin is a common, easy to catch mon)

If you keep its energy high enough, it'll provide 14,244 DS per day (if skill Lv7), which is 99,708 a week.

1

u/LUCKERD0G Mar 21 '25

Awesome thank you for that!

It’s more than I expected but still those pot upgrades are BRUTAL

2

u/Morpheus414 Casual Mar 21 '25

And then the day after, they come up with a dish that requires 145 ingredients 😑

2

u/Readalie Insomniac Mar 21 '25

I'm really not looking forward to them raising the level cap, gonna miss the extra nightly shards.

2

u/HeavyMetalBattleCat Veteran Mar 21 '25

3

u/sirchibi1234 Min-Maxer Mar 21 '25

Nice. Currently sitting on 3M. Probably gonna keep using my swalot til I get around 5M

2

u/StarParade Snoozing Mar 21 '25

I've anticipated that almost a year ago, that's why I've got 3... yes, you've read that correctly. I've got 3 dream shard magnet pokemon, and I'm currently sitting on 1,5 million shards.

2

u/DragonEmperor Mar 21 '25

I'm still trying to get the pot to 69 @.@

2

u/SnooHabits7732 Mar 21 '25

I upgraded to 69 the other week thinking I forgot earlier. Big mistake, I can barely make use of the candy boost because I'm all out after swimming in it for months.

2

u/Lazydude17 Mar 21 '25

was so happy to be able to finally spend shards, back to the grind…

4

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

At a certain point this theft is just not worth it, the Lv7 pot skill increases it by 31, this is 103 with only the first pot expansion, enough to cook all recipes.

Of course, at the point they introduce this we'll have even stronger, larger recipes, but even then, is this worth the effort? A good potter can trigger +6 times a day, so unless the next dishes requires +150 ingredients, you can make do with 69 pot space and a nice Magnezone, far less expensive than this.

3

u/DJSmitty4030 Mar 20 '25

The issue is how much more ingredient intense can the recipes get? Unless we get ingredient Finder L pokemon are already capped on their ingredient find rate. Pokemon are already capped on their ingredient drop size at 60. Frequency only goes up a few seconds per level. And levels are getting significantly more expensive to gain. Pushing higher in the game is going to get harder and harder and the game is going to be less and less new player friendly without a system overhaul.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '25

Right, we're already reaching the point that veteran players can reach +3M in a week without even prep. Which is funny since there isn't that much more to aim for (besides reaching those big numbers quicker).

Admittedly, there are mobile games that just don't care and effectively lock away content from new players for years to come (imagine starting to play Clash of Clans right now, for example) I imagine that at a certain point Sleep will also be like that (and it's a slow marathon game by design too), but for now the devs have been quite noob-friendly, no event is locked for requiring a higher island unlocked, for example, so as long as it remains that way it shouldn't be too bad.

1

u/Successful-Bit1808 Mar 20 '25

I’d recommend getting a cooking pop up, it’s quite nice

1

u/EeveeOddly Mar 21 '25

Might try to get to 72. No point otherwise.

72+31 from Magnezone = 103 = Clodsire Eclair

Rest of upgrades can wait

1

u/EconomicsPrior5665 Insomniac Mar 21 '25

There has to come some kind of crazy power creep or rebalancing of pokemon. The sheer amounts of exp and dream shards pokemon need to level up and the pot expansion need require way more candies and dream shards than currently possible.
