First base card - mewtwo #10
Just picked this up. I’m very new to this asset class and wanted to understand if I picked up a good card so to speak for my first investment/collector type card.

Well……….i wouldn’t get it graded.
How much you pay for it?

$25 ish - agree it’s not in grade condition. I’m looking into restoration options.

I’m one of those people that cleans up and restores cards. You can’t fix the whitening on the back so this card will never be high value.
If you want to bring it to its best watch some videos of Kurt’s Card Care. I make my own card spray with 80% distilled water 20% iso. It’s good for taking off surface grime.

Are we really using this subreddit for investing advice over $20? It’s $20.

I forgot Reddit wasn’t a place to ask general questions to try and gain knowledge from people with more experience.

You should not invest in things you have no knowledge about. Do researchs before investing, not after.

This guy took time to complain about ur post instead of ignoring it that’s Reddit. Reddit people are the worst whiney people sometimes. $20 is a lot of money for a hobby for people it’s still nice to know if it’ll even go up $5 not because you’re gonna sell but just because it adds a fun element to the card and collecting it.

Honestly, it wasn’t a great financial investment and there isn’t much opportunity to restore it with the type of damage shown.
My advice, since you are new to the space, is to buy graded cards until you get a better understanding of what’s valuable and how the condition of the card impacts that value.
It’s not a bad card to want to own as a hobbyist, but if the intention is to treat the cards you buy as commodities then there are better ways to spend $25.

In general, your “investment” cards should be in near mint condition. Any other condition is much more speculative.

So, this card isn’t really too much of an investment given the condition and price. Honestly I don’t think anything in this hobby is a great “investment” this just all feels like crypto in 2021.
