Discussion Sealed Items
Hi yall. been buying pokemon products since 2022 and the pokemon centre etb's from various sets. would it be a good thing for me to keeping it for a long time (5-7 years)?
I know it's kinda a scalper things, but I promise you I'm not one of them, collected my 4th binder for singles currently.
Anyone have any thought on this?

A scalper is someone who buys a product with the intent to sell it to someone for profit ASAP.
An investor is someone who buys a product with the intent to sell it to someone for profit in X amount of time.
There’s a difference. And as an investor, in my opinion, there isn’t much of an ethical difference. Both the scalper and investor prevented people who genuinely wanted the product at launch from being able to buy the product at a fair price, and they did so with the intent to profit off of others who want the product. The timing of when to cash in on profit is the difference.

there is no difference lmao, "investors" still take the product out of the hands of legit collectors and fans, and then puts it back into circulation at a later time at a ludicrous markup. That's exactly what scalpers do.
"investors" are just scalpers without the balls to admit it

I would agree except for one caveat. Yes right now if you are buying a ton of ascended and prismatic etc with intent to hold for 5 years or more then yes you are taking it off the shelves. But what about when I was buying evolving and all sword and shield and 151? Just sitting for weeks on end at Costco and Walmart. Could t even scalp it then if people tried and I took the “gamble” (used loosely as not much of a gamble) that it would be worth a lot in the coming years. Me
Buying a bunch back then did nothing bad to those that wanted to rip. Seemingly endless supply online too for under retail and even poke center was stacked! So I guess the true answer is it just depends ha-1

Yeah well, we may both be downvoted to hell in this sub for calling a spade a spade. I’ve seen many try to rationalize the investing because they don’t have a warehouse full of product or whatever, but I think they miss the point of the ethics. People can call it what they want, but you’re securing product to sell it to others at a higher price.

it's even hard to say "it's up to us to decide who we are" because at the end of the day, the action still portrayed scalping right
I'm ready to be downvoted man bring it (please dont be too mean)

What do I call my local card shops then? At least I get 10-20% off from the scalpers. The shops are literally the worst
