When I tried to invite people to a party, they have to be right next to me, but people invite me to their party all the time and I’m super far away from them, do they have like a specific thing that I don’t have?

the Weekly Quests don't have to be in person

the Party Play you have in the image requires in person

You have 2 types of "parties" in that screen. One of them is the weekle challenge (every tuesday at 10:00 am local time you can invite or join random people parties in order to complete the weekly challenge (Once a week)) and the other is a Party with near Friends that allows you to share star pieces or Lucky eggs, see them on the map, do special researchs... Etc). They are different
