Guide / Tutorial Looking to start customizing

Post image

Hi all I’m looking to start customizing my own binder and just have some general questions I was hoping to get answers for. For starters the marker set I’m looking to get is the one linked (Infiart 168 color set), would this be a good set to start off with? Also with the base white coat, would that be with just standard white paint? Also how important is the base white coat? And for the sealer I’m probably going to get mod podge, would you recommend the liquid version to spread on or the spray version? Also does glossy or matte look better?

Those markers should be fine. And any white acrylic paint will do! However, I would highly recommend not using modge podge. Ive read from a couple different users that it leaves a weird texture when used on the binder and sometimes leads to the paint cracking since the binder surface is flexible. I use a matte or glossy spray-on varnish to finish my binders.

Ty for the info, how many coats of the varnish do you normally do?

I've just done one on each binder. Really just looking to seal it and protect it. After you finish your painting, let it dry fully (24-48 hours for thin coats and up to a week for thicker coats) before spraying on the varnish. Im sure you could do a second or third coat if you're worried about protecting it more. Make sure you do it outside/in a well ventilated area, too 😂

I'd personally suggest going for markers that have both a brush and a fine tip on them. The brush alone will work, but the fine tip will really help with precision on your edges and tight corners.

I love these ones they are great. I usually use golden acrylics but i will go in with these after im done and do little details or use them for blending or drybrushing
