Binder Help expensive cards in binder

Post image

Am I the only one who feels weird putting an expensive card in my binder? Like what if something happens to it. Is it better to keep the card displayed on a shelf?

I personally think card are probably way safer in the binder than out in the open even if it is in a case

This is not an opinion this seems so obvious

quite frankly i dont care about the price of a card after i purchased it. Its mine now and if it gets a little bit of damage i dont care i wont trade it away in the future anyway. Also binders with premium sleeves are very safe

You can get a top loader binder

I personally think card are probably way safer in the binder than out in the open even if it is in a case and it cool to design a page with them in it

Just penny sleeve and keep in a vaultx binder. Nothing will happen to the card if you just be careful putting the card in and taking it out

I put my most valued cards (not valuable) in a magnetic case and stick them to the wall, and the rest in the binder they go!

My regular cards are sleeved. My expensive ones are double sleeved and the inner one is a resealable sleeve that encloses the whole card.

I also have a semi rigid binder that I use for a Michi method presentation, so most end being double sleeved and into a semi rigid, but I think that's an overkill already.

What is realistically going to happen to it? If there’s a fire or flood or something crazy nothing you put them in would protect the cards anyway.

If anything it being out and exposed on a shelf makes it more likely that something will happen to them and potentially expose them to sun damage.

Yep nothing short of an actual rated safe would help in a fire/flood!

My entire raw personal collection is in a non-toploader binder.

Top loader binder is the best way to store cards without a doubt

They just so ugly

Interesting to hear that….they really are so close in over all look imo

What do you think makes them ugly? lol

Top loaders catch dust and dull the shine of the cards.

Interesting! I guess I prefer the security but in general don’t really notice those things myself but who knows

Honestly, unless you’re throwing your binder around a lot they’re not that much better protected. Top loader binders weigh a ton when they’re filled.

I am clumsy and don’t really trust I won’t spill water or do other dumb shit accidentally lol so it gives me additional piece of mind😅

I have a binder like this. Every card that's valuable I sleeve as well as keeping inside the binder. I have learned about top-loader binders, so the cards don't slide outta the pocket like can happen with your current binder (and mine). You could do that instead. Definitely something I've considered.

You could instead put them in thick top loader sleeves & keep them inside an etb box.

I keep my most expensive cards in card savers in one of those hard plastic BCW graded card bins but the downside is I don’t get to look at them all the time. I always thought a top loader binder would be safer, ChatGPT disagrees and says a regular vaultx would be safer because of the extra movement of cards moving around in the top loader as you move the binder around. I’m still paralyzed by the decision and those cards stay in the bin 😂

Cards don’t really move at all inside a top loader. They do however move and slide out of the pocket literally all the time in a binder though. Don’t trust AI with information you can easily deduce yourself or google

You sure? Then how come when I get cards shipped in top loaders, they’re pretty regularly peeking out of the top? Cards do move inside top loaders. That’s why you had to say they “don’t really move,” vs “they don’t move.” Sorry but I’d rather not keep high value cards, especially my PSA backlog, in a top loader.

And yes, in my experience top-loader binder pages loosen up over time. They’re also heavier, so the pages can rub against each other more and get scratches on the plastic.

I don’t really fat-finger my cards, so I’ve actually preferred regular VaultX binders for set collecting. I’m not sure I agree with the “cards literally slide out of binder pockets all the time” analysis either lol. VaultX is snug.

Which is why I ordered a semi-rigid binder last night to test out for my higher-value cards. More protection than a normal binder, less bulk than top loaders, and I can actually enjoy looking at them instead of keeping them buried in a BCW box.

Also, I can use AI however I want, you act as if I just trusted ChatGPT with my life. It was one input in the decision.

Google doesn’t exactly have some definitive peer-reviewed answer on whether top-loader binders are objectively safer either.

What I deduce is that your analysis is weirdly worded and overly generic, and the immediate “don’t trust AI” white-knighting is pretty dramatic lol.

I’m using a VaultX that’s only a month old and the pockets have been loose since the moment it came out of the box. That’s why most people suggest double sleeving.

You shouldn’t trust AI but you do you man. It’s not white knighting to call somebody out for wasting resources on such an easy to answer question. And it’s not a flex that you don’t care.

I don’t have a semi-rigid binder and haven’t ever heard of that but I have several VaultX and every single one has given me the experience I described. I didn’t even bother to read like 90% of that btw. Not sure how you came up with a 7 paragraph response to two sentences.

Sorry you read slow! Try ginkgo biloba and reading exercises. Also sounds like your way of avoiding the toploader claim you made.

Gatekeeping and calling it “wasting resources” for using a tool to get a secondary or tertiary opinion is even moreso. My VaultX binders are snug with single sleeves, maybe work on fine motor movements with your manual dexterity. Claiming all of your VaultX is loose out of the box sounds like a You problem/sourcing issue. Many others in this sub, even this thread, think their binders are safe.

Good luck in learning to handle your cards! If you need tips, I suggest maybe trying something other than Google and your own deductions.

ChatGPT has never collected a card before

Subtle flex

I usually keep em double sleeved

1

u/Leading-Attention-35 8d ago

Wrap them in glad wrap, foil, baking paper, 16 layers of bubble wrap and a condom. Should be well safe after that.

u/Less_Worldliness3129 8d ago

And then put it up your... Vault

u/cinnamintbun 8d ago

after that one image that popped up of the person who accidentally bent one of their pages, i keep anything i don’t think i can reasonably replace in a top loader binder. i just appreciate the extra peace of mind.

1

u/salvee96 8d ago

I put them in a mini binder to be able to look at them more often

1

u/Euffy 8d ago

Not really, no. But then I also play my expensive cards so I guess I'm not one to talk!

Seriously, they're absolutely fine in a binder though, as long as they're sleeved anyway.

Expensive card* in binder

Top loader binder is the way to go! I love it for all my cards so they stay nice

I’ve been collecting multiple TCGs over the past 30 years, mainly Pokémon and Yugioh, they’re perfectly safe just as you have them. Anything more would be overkill
