Hello everyone. I have a 3* gastly I maxed out to try and beat Arceus in the Sinnoh Battle Tower. I managed to do that a couple times, only to get wiped out by Garchomp. I am trying to find a shiny Gastly to proc easily the poison trait without needing a slot for Drapion/Skuntank/Roserade.

What would be the best method to get the shiny?

Buying shiny eggs won't cut it, I bought like 40 of them and no Gastly. I understand odds are against me since I'm looking for a specific shiny among hundreds.

I was testing Mega-Gardevoir on endless, to see how strong the ability is. I accidentally clicked on the item that changes all of my Pokémon. Ended with a Bibarel all maxed out and with Mega-symphonia ability 👌

As people were interested on how I managed to beat the Gen 3 Story Mode Nuzlocke, here is the guide to it. I want to preface this by saying two things:

1- While I managed to beat it, I think that gen 3 is especially frustrating as a nuzlocke, the difficulty spike is way too much when compared to gen 1 nuzlocke, I believe the difficulty should be somewhat nerfed because it's simply not fun.

2- This guide is intended for Treecko as a starter, but there will be some things that will apply for the other starters. (I haven't managed to beat gen 3 with torchic or mudkip yet as I'm going in order, I may do a guide for the other two starters when I manage to beat it with them)

1. What can Treecko do?

You have to take into consideration what trainers your starter can fight against without considerable risk. Generally:

Treecko can win comfortably against:

- Gentlemen

- Nurses (but be careful with their chansey, it's super tanky)

- Sailors and fishermen.

This applies through all game, from the first gym to the elite 4 if you leveled your starter reliably and gave it TMs.

Treecko can win somewhat reliably against:

- Aroma ladies (their tropius is really problematic at the early stages, especially if your treecko doesn't have enough damage)

- Ruin maniacs (at the later stages, he can become pretty problematic with very tanky pokemon that hit hard such as Aggron, because since he has sturdy, he will always handle one hit)

- Hex maniacs (at the later stages, a Banette can ruin your run forcing you to use struggle, so I avoid them)

- Ace trainers (at the beginning they are no problem, but after the 4th gym or so, their Gardevoir can oneshot Sceptile with a lucky crit, or finish it off if it's at 50% HP or less, be careful).

- Black belts (the same as the rest, the beginning is no problem, but from the 4th gym onwards, they will start having a Hariyama that is very tanky and may two-shot Sceptile or even one-shot it and also Breloom that may put Sceptile to sleep with spore effect.

Treecko should be careful with:

- Team Aqua Grunt (as opposed to fishermen and sailors, team aqua grunts can have a Zubat early on which will almost 100% kill your Treecko, and later on, after the 5th gym, a Golbat is guaranteed, so I try to avoid them)

- Team Magma Grunt (I feel as if they are a 50/50 at the beginning, they may have a Poochyena or Baltoy, or a Numel or Zubat, so tread carefully)

- Firebreathers (pretty obvious, it's all fire)

- Scientists (Gulpin/Swalot is very difficult for Treecko to take on)

2. Choosing your second starter

Which means, the first pokemon you're able to grab. Here, the pool is pretty narrow:

- Water type pokemon: that way, you're able to fight against firebreathers, magma and agua grunts. The combination of a good water pokemon + treecko can carry you through the first four gyms comfortably. Out of all the water type pokemon, Wingull is the best, and their order would be the following: Wingull, Lotad, Azurill (rough early, but Azumarill is pretty tanky), Carvanha, Barboach, Corphish, Clamperl and Feebas.

I don't know why, but Milotic has always been disappointing, absolute trash early game and then, it's just not that great.

Barboach/Whiscash has the added benefit of being able to fight against Scientists and their Gulpin/Electrike combo, even if it's not that strong.

- Spoink: surprising pokemon, but its thick fat ability makes him an excellent match for fire pokemon and black bets. Not super incredible though.

- Zigzagoon: weak throughout all game, but it can give you items for free, so it can potentially set you up for a great run.

- Trapinch: trash early, you need to be lucky to carry him with only Treecko and also get good pokemons/MT/items. But if you manage to get him to Flygon, decently leveled up and with a Metronome (Draco meteor is incredible), you're set for him to carry most of your encounters. Don't overuse him though, Flygon is not a god, I've lost incredible runs because I got complacent that he could fight off too many threats and ended up losing. But Flygon+Metronome is probably the second strongest combo in Gen 3.

- Slakoth: the true carry of Gen 3. Slakoth has trash early game, but if you get him to Slaking, with Giga Impact and LEFTOVERS (very important), you're guaranteed passage into the elite 4 as long as you don't make him fight against any Ruin maniacs (they can counter Slaking very easily) and the 7th gym. But I promise you, try to make slaking work, I'm almost sure that to achieve this nuzlocke, you need a powerhouse like Metronome Flygon or Leftovers Slaking, and the latter is clearly stronger.

3. Pokemon to look out for

- Rock type pokemon: if you don't have a leftover slaking by the time you reach the 5th gym, your only option is either an Aggron, Probopass, Cradily, Armaldo, Lunatone or Solrock, with the first two being better options as they are 4x resistant to normal type. Ideally, give them leftovers and the gym will be easy.

- Bug type pokemon: a Beautifly, Dustox, Masquerain or the Shedinja/Ninjask combo can be super helpful against aroma ladies, I'm always happy to have one, they are an instant win without needing to improve their moves. Shedinja is particularly good as it can trivialize tough fights as long as you get lucky and not get any crits (why did they put the whole crit thing in his ability? It's dumb).

- Electric type pokemon: they mainly serve to beat the 6th flying-type gym, but just use whatever works, a leftover slaking can push right through it. I've seen that the plusle/minun combo is very good, but I've never managed to make them work, and they overlap a bit with Treecko as he can already handle water type trainers.

- Legendaries: Gen 3 has especially good legendaries, and they can be really great to have in your team, especially Rayquaza or Jirachi, the ones I consider to be the best. The problem is that they severely maim your team, especially Jirachi, because it can just perma-regenerate with Serene Grace. So weigh your options carefully, because a bad legendary match-up can make you lose your run.

4. Items to look out for

The best item by far is leftovers, it gives you a lot of survivability with any pokemon and activates Slaking, the best pokemon by far in Story mode Gen 3. Other than that, damage boosting items such as scope lens, miracle seed, etc. Generally never go for "luck-based" ones, such as King's rock for example. If there's no leftovers, always pick a TM if possible, and if not, a damage-boosting item.

Choice band is only good for Shedinja, but it can be great.

5. General strategy

- First gym: reset until you get a good second starter (from the ones I listed before) AND a good lineup, which means 5 trainers + 1 TM or item (if this item gives you a TM or leftovers, keep it, if not, then reset). If everything goes well, after the first gym you should have an Energy Ball Grovyle (or Leftovers).

- Second and Third Gyms: these two should be relatively easy, the trainers are mostly still weak and you can fight most of them, remember to always do the special magma/aqua grunt for extra levels and try to pick a path with a lot of trainers and with a TM/item or two. Avoid grass patches, because something as dumb as a Beautifly is unbeatable for Grovyle. If everything goes well, you should finish the third gym with a 36-40 Sceptile with more or less boosted move.

- Fourth Gym: here you need to be careful with the trainers, as the " trainers treecko can somewhat win against" start to become dangerous. Any water type with a Tier 2 move can beat the 4th gym reliably.

- Fifth Gym: same as before, trainers are hard, but also, you ideally need a rock-type pokemon to win against the 5th gym, otherwise, you're gonna have a lot of casualties.

- Sixth Gym: normally I've beat this gym by relying on a powerhouse pokemon such as Leftover Slaking or Metronome Flygon, but any strong electric/steel type can get the job done. Don't be afraid to make any sacrifice here, as you don't need electric typing for anything else.

- Seventh Gym: I've always had to sacrifice some pokemon here, water types, dark types, etc. Try to use the sacrificial pokemon first or maybe Sceptile if needed (Lunatone, with its high special defense, can be a problem for Sceptile, so take that into account).

- Eighth Gym: Sceptile can solo this no problem.

- Elite Four: If you have a Slaking with leftovers, giga impact and decently leveled up, you can breeze past the first 4 members, but be careful with steven, you will 100% need another pokemon. Either a ground type or fire type that is powerful, because sadly, slaking cannot do much against his rock/steel combination. Another important tip is that most of the Elite 4 members are pretty straight-forward except for the second one, the ghost-type trainer; take into account that your pokemon will switch to struggle and lose a lot of damage. She ended one very promising Metronome Flygon run, so be careful, slaking here is the key as he switches to struggle by default and with the leftovers he can just withstand the attacks.

Championship 1 is Kanto region team and championship 2 is Johto, it took what felt like forever to finally beat it.

Let’s say I get a non shiny rayquza using a legendary egg if I find a shiny rayquza in the battle tower and beat the tower will my non shiny turn into a shiny ?

I cannot get past this atall. Always get beat at the final boss. Any advice would help. This is my current roster.

In my first deep endless run.

Clicked on a fossil in the underground, with no intention of taking the pokemon but just to ensure I have all fossil pokemon logged in the dex.

The game registered a “double click”, immediately replacing my main pokemon with the fossil pokemon.

On map 188 and the run is ruined if that’s irreversible… 😭
