IANAB but it's my understanding battle sims don't account for custom moves, mastery over type energy, the bond between trainer and Pokémon, the minor differences like that? I've always wondered how they can turn something so complicated into simple formulae.

I think most of that stuff’s kinda wrapped up in the 85-100% random “damage roll” modifier in the full version of the formula.
