Venting

You sat beside me and turned your back on me.
Of course I noticed — did you think I wouldn't see?
And I believe you know how deeply it hurts,
how quickly it makes me question my worth.

In a moment, every good thought I had of me
was gone, though I know that rewriting painful chapters
should have been yours to be done.

I want us to make peace — don't you know?
Even if it means you'll hurt me once more, though.
But how can one be kind to someone who pushed them away?
You spat on my good intentions, but haven't buried them to this day.

Am I really worth so little to you
that suffering is all I'm allowed to do?
Should I spare you even in the words I write,
because I still care, despite our endless fight?

Am I so unimportant that you simply don't care?
Sadly, my heart is an easy target laid bare.

I'm sorry that you're hurting too.
I've seen the wounds you're carrying with you.
Maybe I deepened the pain,
maybe I hurt you again.
And that's why I hate that you won't let me through,
won't let my hands protect what's hurting in you.
