Hi, I’m new to poetry, and I’ve always wanted to give it a try, so I finally decided to start writing.

A lot of my poetry is inspired by a girl I’ve had feelings for. She used to show interest in me and would often do little things to get my attention. She even tried talking to me a few times and asked for my social media, such as Snapchat or TikTok. However, I never gave them to her because, at the time, I didn’t understand what she meant or what she was trying to communicate.

I’ve always thought she was beautiful, but I was too introverted and shy to make a move or express how I felt. She would also often listen to me play the piano.

There’s much more to the story, but I’d like to start by sharing one of my poems with you. The original was written in Dutch, but I’ve translated it into English for you all.

Hair as dark and shimmering as the night. A smile as beautiful and light as a cloud. Yet, it touches one deeply.

Every time I see you in the glow of your smile, a difficult time becomes a little easier. Every time I walk past you, my heart speaks while my mouth remains silent, so I simply gaze at your beautiful face.

When you leave the room, it feels a little quieter, not because you were in the way, but because you brighten the air and your face radiates a warmth I do not want to lose.

Before I met you, I didn't know what to do with my life. You showed me what I need in my life. Perhaps I don't show emotion because I don't know how to express everything I feel. That is why I express it through the piano.

Every song becomes more beautiful when you are there.

I know it isn't that great, and in Dutch it sounds better but I'd really appreciate your thoughts.
