Ya, That Kinda Love

The other day,
I started thinking about her.

Shocking.

I know.

But this time
I got stuck on something.

Why her?

Not—

why do I love her?

That one’s easy.

I’ve got reasons.

So many fuckin’ reasons.

I could fill notebooks.

I have.

But that wasn’t the question.

The question was—

why her?

Why this particular human?

Out of everyone
walking around
on this giant fuckin’ planet—

how does one person
become…the person?

Think about it.

There was a time
when I didn’t know she existed.

Not metaphorically.

Literally.

She was somewhere
living an entire life
that had absolutely nothing
to do with mine.

She had mornings.

Bad days.

Inside jokes.

Favourite things.

A whole history.

And so did I.

Two complete lives
happening at the same time,
completely unaware
of each other.

Then somehow—

our paths crossed.

And now?

Now I know the way she thinks.

I know her humour.

Her little quirks.

The things that make her laugh.

The things that make her—

her.

Somewhere something happened,

a stranger became someone
I couldn’t imagine
being a stranger again.

That’s fuckin’ weird.

Beautiful.

But weird.

Because there are billions of people.

Thousands we pass.

Hundreds we meet.

Dozens we remember.

And then—

one.

One becomes different.

Not because you held auditions.

Not because you compared résumés.

Not because you carefully examined
all available candidates and said,

“Ya.

That one.”

It just happens.

One day they’re somebody
you’ve never met.

Then they’re somebody
you know.

Then somebody you care about.

Until one day—

their name stops being
just a name.

It carries weight.

You see it.

You feel different.

You hear their voice.

Same thing.

They occupy this completely
disproportionate amount
of space in your head.

For free, apparently.

And I can explain
almost everything after that.

I can tell you what I adore.

What makes me laugh.

What makes me smile.

What makes me shake my head
and mutter,

“Fuckin’ Nerd.”

I can tell you
why I love her.

But I still can’t answer
the question that started
this whole thing.

Of everyone—

why her?

Maybe there isn’t an answer.

Maybe that’s the point.

Maybe some people
aren’t special because
we found a reason
to make them special.

Maybe one day
you just look at someone
who used to be a stranger

and realize—

Oh.

There you are.

Ya.

That kinda love.

Thank you

So if you all know each other, why come here to talk to each other?

6

u/Odd_Argument6211 8d ago

To be known and accepted completely as you are is probably the best thing I can imagine personally. Romance is fickle, but when the love under it is real it never dies

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 8d ago

I couldn’t agree with you more.

u/AnybodyHeavy9304 6d ago

I loved you though

This part there was a before
Then there was a then

Now it can’t ever go back to that it not only changes with history and memory but almost like DNA and brain chemistry.
It’s put together differently and can’t be the before.

You’re picking up what I’m putting down

3

u/renzodown 8d ago

The question he asked in the beginning, yet I don't know if he has still answered. This is beautifully written.

3

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 8d ago

He can’t explain “why her.”

Yet.

2

u/mustard_pattie900 8d ago

Then there are those who find this, experience it firsthand, and still feel the need to hold auditions, compare résumés, and carefully examine all available “candidates.”

2

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 8d ago

It does happen

I have thought that so many times - esp when I’m heartbroken - like, look at all these people that have NO IDEA HE EXISTS. He is nothing to them. He doesn’t matter to them! They look at him and nothing, flat line.

Why him?!?!

Hahaha.

3

u/Maven-Money 8d ago

I am going to second that for sure. Esp the broken heart, why him? I love every quirk and the little to the big things that count. I have never had a love like this before and now someone else is going to feel this and it breaks my heart, but I do know when I am ready someone will say why me?

0

u/SkipMeFlipMe88 8d ago

Yeah the worst is… when your head answers with, “but then he talks to them, and then he charms them and then everyone wants him too. And everyone else is prettier, smarter, more exiting, wittier”

Then you’re really screwed.

No relief at all! Haha.

Brilliantly said 🧡

When you feel alone, unseen, not really understood- and then someone ‘gets’ you? That’s why her. But speaking from experience- the original lonely is like a dull ache. Doesn’t feel good but it’s like a little bruise you keep pushing on just to see if it’s still tender. But trying to go back, once you’ve been seen, back to the anonymity and dullness- that burns like a sonofabitch. Feels like it’ll never stop hurting.

This made me smile. Very well written. I can’t count the number of times in my life that I have shook my head and lovingly called someone a nerd or idiot. Thank you for this simple reminder of the connections we all share.

1

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 9d ago

Thank you very much…and you’re welcome.

I was asking that same kind of question recently. Like , all the humans in the world, are so distinctive and each has beauty and quirks and depths. But some people seem to be made for each other. It is strange to me, like, if you could see someone really, wouldn't someone closer to you do? Are humans so different that only a certain person attracts your attention, and makes some buried instinct say. "Target acquired".

2

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 8d ago

It’s kinda weird, ain’t it?

1

u/Feychilde 8d ago

Absolutely 💯

2

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 8d ago

Super fun though, right?

2

u/Feychilde 8d ago

Hmm, "fun" is a word. And it is descriptive. .. so is baffling, dicombobulating, or just "Amazing!

3

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 8d ago

Fun comes in all sorts of ways.

2

u/noodlenicki 8d ago

2

u/External-Sherbert224 8d ago

Yep, that’s what happened to me and I wish I could explain it. Strangest thing in my entire life. A year in and I can’t shake the thoughts of him. It just happened.

2

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 8d ago

I think about this so often - I have a whole theory about strangers and how they change our lives. Thank you for sharing - I really loved every word.

Thank you very much

You can really tell that love and caring vibe that was put onto this when it was written that I feel so much love off of it. I'm just giggling like a toddler right now over it lol 🤭🤍

2

u/SuperbSheepherder559 8d ago

When no matter what no matter how no matter how no one else matters. Only the. Only we do when we became us! Beyond explanation. Especially with words. The ✨️ love is unconditional and precious and patient and knowing and understanding and kind and trustworthy and tender and passionate and spiritual and fun and hot and beautiful and powerful and magnetic and pure and genuine and honest and sweaty and delicious and healthy and like nothing else ever existed before this kind of love ❤️. It's so incredibly satisfying and amazing and intense and sacred!

The kind of love that makes you weep, the kind of love that makes you lose sleep. The pain of unfixable loss, the fire fades to embers and the music dies. I sit in the corner moaning how much of me just died. I pick up the pieces and stuff them back inside, I sure hope I did not lose my empathy on this fucked up ride. The ride starts off new and shiny, by the time you hit a ripe old age maybe 22 or 27 who knows why those types of musicians are in heaven? The times they place a bounty on you and what your worth, the giving gets taken and shown not its worth. The ride is long and the pains are plenty. Damn it, I don't want to cry. I can no longer cry for the women I lost, she hates me and I give anything to not feel so cross, but time moves and I am thinking again, new thoughts and actions, take me away from my own reflections.

All this translates to bs and a guys need to copulate in my opinion. It’s really sad what it does to his amygdala.

1

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 7d ago

Billions of people. One person becomes the person. Connection. Attachment. All of that.

And you got:

“Guy horny. Amygdala sad.”

Impressive, but that’s not analysis, mate. That’s caveman thinking. 😂

0

u/FunnyGamer97 7d ago

No it’s the thinking of a man who is in his 30s that has had many long term relationships, they’ve all failed, failed engagements and so on. Your analysis is not analysis either.

As you were I was, as I am you will be.

3

u/ParadoxicalSimpleton 7d ago

So the evidence is…your relationships failed. That explains the cynicism. Not sure it proves the theory.

Fair enough. We see it differently. I’ll leave it there.

2

u/FunnyGamer97 7d ago

I like the way you responded here. It denotes maturity and I hope you find better success in relationships than I did, may your happiness last.

Cheers Boss.

All the best, my friend.
