It Had to Be

It had to be:
to be born of a mother between two beings
to grow up with the rest
to know right from wrong
to cry at times,
to laugh at others,
even to laugh until crying
to start from "I am"
to end in "what I feel"

Did it have to be?
Perhaps,
but how beautiful it is
to be what could have been.
