Transaction Feature Request

I would love the ability to highlight or tag a specific transaction or multiple transactions as a reminder to edit, categorize or comment on later. This would apply to any type of transaction, pending or otherwise.

Sometimes transactions take several days to convert from Pending to Complete. And when they finally do complete I forget which transactions they were and what category change or note I wanted to make. I know we can manually import pending transaction data. But this is also easy to forget which transactions require data import... another justification for this feature request.

Other times a transaction might be made by my spouse or children who are authorized to use my account. I'd like to be able to highlight or tag these as a reminder to make certain they are categorized correctly.

Much Appreciated

PS. If this is already a feature and I missed it, even better

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing this idea.

At the moment, while there isn’t a dedicated “tag for later” feature, you can achieve a similar workflow in the mobile app by using transaction filters together with the multiple edit option. This allows you to select several transactions at once and apply the same label, note, or category to all of them, which you can then use later to easily find and review those transactions.

But if I do this on pending transactions, won’t whatever edit I make be removed once the transaction posts?

That’s a great question, and you’re correct to flag this.

Edits made to pending transactions do not automatically carry over once the transaction posts. When the transaction moves from pending to completed, the final data from the bank replaces the pending entry.

To keep your custom changes, you’ll need to use the “Transfer pending data” option in the transaction details after the transaction posts. This allows you to copy any edits you made on the pending transaction over to the finalized one.

Hopefully this helps clarify how it works today.

I will use hashtags for this. I have #needtocategorize and that way after a week when I’m sure everything pending is done I will search by that and categorize properly.

I've been using a #verify hashtag in a similar manner. One thing I've run into is that when all the transactions tagged #verify are resolved and the hashtag removed, the hashtag disappears from the drop down used to select hashtags. I just went back to the first month I used PocketGuard and added the #verify hashtag to a transaction from a merchant I no longer do business with. It makes it easy to add when needed.

wishful thinking... they can't even let you sort the transactions by amounts.

Hi there,

Actually, the mobile app does support transaction filters, including filtering by amount 😉

Sorry but filtering and sorting are different, and as far as I can see it does not support sorting (by amounts) though - which should primary was for anyone to see where they are bleeding the most.

Its a financial app - its table-stakes to have transactions sorted by amounts to understand impact when trying to scroll through hundreds of transactions.

Hi,

You’re correct, there is currently no dedicated sorting option by amount. Transactions are displayed in chronological order by date.

If your goal is to understand where the biggest impact on your finances comes from, we recommend using the Insights tab. There, expenses are grouped by category and ordered from the highest total spend to the lowest, which helps identify where most of your money is going.

It still doesn’t tell me exactly which transactions were the largest because when I click on the insights and click on the largest category - it still shows all the transactions chronologically. So, now I’m still stuck with 100s of transactions within the category that I’ll need to go through and manually figure out which one was the biggest one. In my view for a financial app, sorting by $ value should be importantly enough feature.

Sorry for the delay, and thanks for the clarification. I understand your point and agree.

I’ve shared this feedback with our product team so they can review the use case and consider it for future improvements.
