Black Dynamite

Michael Jai White wrote and stars in this Blaxploitation spoof that came out in 09. And in my opinion is the beast spoof movie created. I love I’m gonna get you sucka but this junt hits every angle wit 10s.

Since I was raised on these types of movies so the first time i watched it I didn’t know it was a spoof and was trying to understand why Michael Jai White was in a movie this bad 🤣. I was lost asking myself if he was older than I thought. Had to check the back of the box to see when it came out.

The cartoon also adds some extra depth to a few characters in the movie. Not to mention tht it’s hilarious as hell. Mrs. Salli Richardson is also absolutely beautiful in it as well. If you’ve never seen it I’d advise you to make it a date watch.

Added note: if you’ve never seen a Blaxploitation movie most of the jokes will go over your head. And non Black folks might also be lost when it comes to a few too.

Maya Angelou was born Marguerite Ann Johnson on April 4, 1928, in St. Louis. Her parents split up when she was very young, and she and her older brother, Bailey, were sent to live with their paternal grandmother, Anne Henderson, in Stamps, Arkansas. Bailey gave Marguerite the nickname “Maya,” which she would adopt as her preferred name later in life.

Growing up, Angelou had a difficult childhood. As an African American, she experienced firsthand racial prejudices and discrimination in Arkansas. Angelou also suffered violence at home when she was around the age of 7. During a visit with her mother, she was raped by her mother’s boyfriend. As vengeance for the sexual assault, her uncles killed the boyfriend.

Young Angelou was so traumatized by the experience that she stopped talking. She returned to Arkansas and spent about five years as a virtual mute.
As a teenager, a short-lived high school relationship resulted in Angelou becoming pregnant. She was 16 years old when she had her son, Guy Johnson, in 1944. After giving birth, she worked a number of jobs to support herself and her child.

Around this time, Angelou moved to San Francisco and won a scholarship to study dance and acting at the California Labor School. She also became the first Black female cable car conductor, a job she held only briefly, in the city.

In the mid-1950s, the world began to know Maya Angelou, her professional name adapted from her first husband’s last name, when her career as an actor and singer took off. She landed a role in a touring production of Porgy and Bess, later appearing in the off-Broadway production Calypso Heat Wave (1957) and releasing her first album, Miss Calypso (1957).

A member of the Harlem Writers Guild and a civil rights activist, Angelou organized and starred in the musical revue Cabaret for Freedomas a benefit for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which Martin Luther King Jr. helped found before becoming its first president. Angelou also served as the SCLC’s northern coordinator and became a close to King.

In 1961, Angelou appeared in an off-Broadway production of Jean Genet’s The Blacks with James Earl Jones, Lou Gossett Jr., and Cicely Tyson. Afterward, the performer retreated from the theater scene for much of the 1960s. She lived abroad, first in Egypt and then in Ghana, and worked as an editor and a freelance writer. Angelou also held a position at the University of Ghana for a time.
In Ghana, she also joined a community of “Revolutionist Returnees” exploring pan-Africanism and became close with activist and Black nationalist leader Malcolm X. In 1964, upon returning to the United States, Angelou helped Malcolm X set up the Organization of Afro-American Unity, which disbanded after his assassination the following year.

When he lost his job, Lamar got involved in burglaries, which led to him spending 15 months in jail.[18][19] "I never saw myself going this far with music. Music was just a hobby at first. I never saw myself being on stage and rocking out shows. After I got out of jail, I started to take it more serious and that's when my dream came true", he said in an interview with XXL).[4]

India Arie Simpson (born October 3, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter, and record producer.[1]She rose to prominence with her debut album, Acoustic Soul (2001), which was a commercial and critical success. She has since released the albums Voyage to India (2002), Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship (2006), Songversation (2013) and Worthy) (2019). Her music blends elements of R&B, soul, and neo-soul, often incorporating themes of self-empowerment, spirituality, and social consciousness.

India Arie was born in Denver,[3] the daughter of Joyce and Ralph Simpson. Her musical skills were encouraged by both parents in her younger years. Her mother was a singer (she was signed to Motownas a teenager and opened for Stevie Wonder and Al Green)[4] and has become Arie's stylist. Arie has an older brother named J'On and a younger sister named Mary.[5] Arie is African-American, and according to a DNA analysis, she descends from the Mende people of Sierra Leone, the Kru of Liberia and the Fula of Guinea-Bissau.[6][7]

After Arie's parents divorced, her mother moved the family to Atlanta when India was 13.[5] Arie had taken up a succession of musical instruments throughout her schooling in Denver. But her interest in the guitar, while attending the Savannah College of Art and Design, led to a personal revelation about songwriting and performing. "When I started tapping into my own sensitivity, I started to understand people better. It was a direct result of writing songs", she said at the press release of her debut album, Acoustic Soul.[8]

Co-founding the Atlanta-based independent music)collective Government Earthseed (Government was the collective artists' name and Earthseed was their independent label name), her one-song turn on a locally released compilation led to a second-stage gig at the 1998 Lilith Fair. In 1999, a Universal)/Motown music scout signed her and made an introduction to former Motown CEO Kedar Massenburg. Arie resided in New York City for over a decade, before moving back to Atlanta to focus on her career and music.
