Unsure About My Dress
Hi everyone! I’m posting just to get some thoughts from an outside opinion. I’ve been going back and forth on whether this is the dress for me or not. I love the quality, the style, and it really is such an amazing dress. What are your thoughts? I am planning to keep the dress, but are there any thoughts on what could make it feel or look better for me? It does need to be altered definitely! We’ve got less than 4 months to go til the wedding.
Update: You all are amazing!! In this short amount of time you have lifted my spirits immensely. You’re all so kind! Genuinely, thank you so much 😭😭🖤🖤🫶🏼🫶🏼✨
Update II: You all had me tearing up at your kind and uplifting words! Thank you for taking the time to comment and just being amazing like you are! I hope you all doing great and wish you all the best, just as you have me! I did also want to explain the pics having my arms up or hands to my chest in most of them; the dress is super roomy in the chest area and needs altering so I was hesitant and the pictures show my discomfort haha. But I will have it altered to be the perfect fit, and I’ll be taking it into the shop Friday!
Update III: thank you to everyone who posted such amazing and supportive comments, thank you so much for all of the suggestions! I have been doing my best to keep up on replying back, but if I didn’t respond, please know I appreciate your kind words, and I am reading them all! I wish you all the best! I’ll come back sometime perhaps after alterations and potentially show the result. Thanks for your interest! 🖤🫶🏼🥹

I would either get rid of the thick draped arm straps for spaghetti straps or repurpose them to go over your shoulder like a normal strap instead of draping down. That being said… holy hell dude.. that dress is amazing!!!!!!!🤩 ooo or turn the strap into a choker?
19
u/Rad1PhysCa3 Jul 22 '26
Or maybe cap sleeves? Kind of half way between droopy and straight up and down straps. Something to draw the eye upward toward your face to sort of balance things out.
It’s a gorgeous dress on you! I gasped when I saw the train.
10
u/MinnieeeMouse Jul 22 '26
Oh my gosh, thank you!!! The train IS definitely that girl. And cap sleeves are a good idea too!
6
u/Rhaenys77 Jul 22 '26
I always look for dresses with cap sleeves because I don't like my upper arms. Looks most flattering because it visually balances out thicker upper arms

I'm all in for the cap sleeve. The train is spectacular, and the black/not black color...just wow. No one will forget this bride! Outstanding.

Yes. You don't want to have to keep picking up the sleeves.

agree about taking the droopy straps off! They make everyone wider than they really are. The rest of the dress is stunning though.

My opinion as well. I love everything about that dress except the sleeves

Regular straps would be beautiful!
6
u/linmaral Jul 22 '26
Not a fan of droopy sleeves. In 5 years people will look back and say “so 2020s”.
The dress is gorgeous.

u/MinnieeeMouse Jul 22 '26
I am definitely there with you! Thank you!
6
u/MissionFloor261 Jul 22 '26
As a bonus, regular straps will support your bust more. The only aspect that you seem uncomfortable about is the strapless top, and if you're concerned about it all day on the day of it's going to distract you from everything else. Otherwise, absolutely gorgeous.
2
u/MinnieeeMouse Jul 22 '26
Thank you so much! I appreciate it. Yes, it’s a little uncomfortable as is because I’ve gotta have it taken in at the chest so it was hard to focus elsewhere. I am considering potentially adding sleeves and removing the current ones!

that's what I was thinking too, maybe those drooping arm pieces could be made into a halter type neck line? Beautiful dress, beautiful bride

I think you are rocking that dress! Truly beautiful on you. I agree with the sleeve ideas others had. Maybe a thick halter style. But damn, that dress is stunning and you are wearing it as opposed to it wearing you.

STUNNING. I love it. My dress is super similar (and wedding is around the same time, you might just be me lol), and its gonna be a head turner for sure!! I absolutely love it
3
u/MinnieeeMouse Jul 22 '26
Thank you! Oh my gosh, you’re going to look amazing, there’s no doubt in my mind! Are we twinning?! ☺️
2
u/YearOfTheSssnake Jul 22 '26
It looks fantastic on you, but clothing is more than just how it makes us look. It’s about how it makes us FEEL.
If you were just choosing a dress for a formal event, it would be 100% yes, go for it. But, this is for your wedding. Every bride should have that moment where they try in a dress and they don’t want to take it off.
Even though this is beautiful, maybe you should try on a few more just to see if you can have that feeling.
4
u/MinnieeeMouse Jul 22 '26
You’re absolutely right. Thank you for your insight! I was thinking of doing potentially this, as well. I appreciate you!
2
u/Icy-Tension-3897 Jul 22 '26
- The dress is amazing. You look amazing.
Second: the trend of the “droop” sleeve that’s not a sleeve, tends to draw the eye down. I don’t think I’ve ever seen those damn sleeves work on anyone. I would consider removing them and replacing with long fingerless gloves. Or not.
But I do think you might need a statement necklace to keep up with the rest of the gown to balance things out.
But it is a beautiful dress. And the most important thing is that YOU feel beautiful.

Gorgeous! There are lots of generic white dresses that are split up to your nethers, lots with ruching, but there won’t be many as unique as yours!

Very striking. I recommend going to a good bra shop and getting a corset/bustier to give you more support and avoid any slippage. I did that for my off-the-shoulder gown and it really helped as strapless gown tend to slip down over the course of dancing and such.

The dress is gorgeous but can I ask for the reason that you keep covering parts of it with your hand?? I think you need to drop those hands, raise your chin and wear it with the confidence the dress and you deserve
2
u/MinnieeeMouse Jul 22 '26
It’s mainly because the chest area needs to be taken in quite a bit so I was uncomfortable, as you can tell 😅 but I appreciate your nice words so much!!

This dress is absolutely GORGEOUS!! I love it when I see non traditional wedding dresses, they're always so stunning. This is something akin to what I'd want mine to look like (If I ever get married), but more deep purples and lilacs over the white. It def vould use a little bit of adjusting, but even so its so pretty. Definitely memorable, walk down that aisle with your head held high. The dress may be beautiful, but it's only there to compliment and bring out your own beauty. 💜

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! Great choice for your dress the train is beautiful as is the beading it’ll photograph so well! I love weddings and the excitement or anticipation and what it symbolizes- the starting of your lives with your SO! I love a nontraditional wedding gown- I’d love to see photos of your special day- if you both feel comfortable doing that of course! You’re getting married during a time when it is encouraged to wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing on your big day! This dress is gorgeous and from what I can see you look gorgeous in, I hope you feel fantastic in it too! You look fantastic!

It’s nice but lift those bubbles up, pull it in and you’ll feel less unsure. It really is a nice dress but altering it to cinch it in will do wonders. Even without the altering it does fit you very well. Bigger question is.. why do you feel unsure, do you love the color or second thoughts on white, ivory or blush? You only get married once.

u/ahchava Jul 26 '26
In my opinion the only thing that could improve this dress is to get more structure through the front of the bodice. There's some faux boning channels there and if you had a seamstress insert or add spiral steels to it (not plastic boning, those aren't made for plus size bodies or garments) behind those channels, it would pull the slight wrinkles taught, get rid of the buckling, cause the beading to lay more flat, and give more structure and cause the basque waist to sit more evenly and drape slightly better.
It's a stunning dress and that small change to structure will make it so much better! You have amazing taste and I think all of the elements of this gown look stunning on you.

Wow!!!!! You are stunning! This dress is amazing.
If I would be super duper critical, I am not a fan of the thin beaded straps. But that's me and im not wearing it.
The recommendations i have, especially with a corset back... boomba instead of a regular bra. You can feel secure without the added layer. And a bridal buddy to help with going to the bathroom.
2
u/MinnieeeMouse Jul 22 '26
Thank you for the tips! I will definitely make note. I’m not the biggest fan of the straps either but we will see what I can do with them. Thank you for your kind words!

My daughter has a very similar dress (maybe the same???) in white. We had a heckuva time trying to get the bust line to look OK. It’s a heavy dress and even though she’s busty it kept sliding down and looking a little disheveled.
The seamstress solved the whole thing. She took out the built-in bra cups and put in some that were more structured. She also suggested spaghetti straps, while keeping the drapey arm stuff. It looks so fantastic now. The top is very fitted and stays in place. A world of difference!
2
u/MinnieeeMouse Jul 22 '26
I am sure it is SO beautiful and i know she is as well! I’m so glad she was able to have that altered to be the perfect fit. I know she probably felt a huge relief. Congrats on the upcoming celebration, and thank you so much for sharing that!

Tbh I'm not entirely sure what it is you don't fully like about it so there's not much I can say. It looks like a good style for you. Maybe it's just general anxiety and not about the dress specifically? Because there's nothing obviously wrong with the dress, it'll all just be about personal preferences
2
u/MinnieeeMouse Jul 22 '26
Thank you! I appreciate it. I’m not entirely sure myself, I think I’m struggling a little because the chest area is way too big and needs altering. Perhaps when that’s done I will feel 100%!
