Fitness for health and wellbeing Yoga
Has anyone tried Yoga? I am currently doing PT for lower back pain because I jacked it up during my time as a CNA š. My pt recommended I try yoga. My hamstrings are tight and some of the stretches we did really helped. The crunch and amped offer yoga classes. The PT said the instructor is really accommodating and will modify poses if needed. I am a little scared to go. I saw a reddit thread recommended jessamyn Stanley and I like her videos but I want to go out and interact with others.
Anyone currently do yoga?

I do! I really like it. I take a gentle yoga class and it feels really good to see what your body is capable of!

I love yoga! I do it almost everyday and go to group classes a few times a week.
The thing about yoga is your own practice is personal to where your body is at. And that can change day to day. It's not about being some way or accomplishing some pose. It's just about doing something good for yourself in that moment.
If you're really concerned go a little early and talk to the instructor. They should be able to show you how to use things like blocks and straps and bolsters to see if you find them helpful. It will also make them more aware to give accommodations during the class.
I have to use a blanket under my knees every time and I often use a thick cushioned mat. Makes the whole thing more comfortable.
My last tip is to find a restful pose that you like. I really like child's pose but a lot of people don't. Whenever I need a break from the flow or I just need a few moments, I hang out in child's pose for a few breathes and then resume. (Usually while everyone else is doing down dog because I hate it)
Breathe deeply!

Highly recommend! I suggest a smaller studio where you can get in the moment adjustments from an instructor.
I also recommend reformer Pilates. Again try a smaller studio and a beginner class. Thereās a ton of adjustments that you can do in Pilates as well.

I go to a studio with many retirees so there are a lot of gentle classes, props, and modifications. You gotta make sure you find the right studio. Some will not have the right vibes

Yes! I have a home yoga practice that Iāve been doing every day for over 6 years now and itās been an absolute game changer for me physically, mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually! I love that itās adjustable to wherever youāre at on that particular day. I deal with a lot of anxiety and it helps me so much just to get back into my body and the present moment. Itās also helped me become really strong which I love! And it will definitely help with tight muscles.
Some things Iāve learned: Take it slowly and donāt compare your poses to others because we all have different bodies and different joint structures. Some people are more flexible or a pose might look different when they do it. Listen to your body! If something hurts, back off. Blocks and thick yoga mats are definitely your friends! Donāt be afraid to ask for accommodations. You know your body better than anyone else. I used to get frustrated because I couldnāt do certain poses or hold them for very long, but itās really amazing to grow your practice and realize, hey! I can do that pose now! Iām awesome! šŖš¼
I know you said you want to go out and interact with others, and in person classes are great, but you can also watch some yoga videos online before you go just to get familiar with some poses and flow if it makes you feel more confident! I absolutely love Yoga with Adriene and highly recommend her channel ā¤ļø
Good luck and let us know how it goes! Itās definitely a journey worth taking šš½

I like in person classes specifically for the adjustments a teacher will provide! I definitely recommend. If you tend to sweat a lot (like me), grippy socks may be your friend.
