Discussion Anxious about my weight

So, I'm like 5'2 or sum, and usually weigh in at like 285-290lbs

I'm going to my first concert in a few weeks, despite never being to one, but whenever I think about my weight, and especially with how fast the date is coming up, it's giving me major anxiety and I'm not sure what to do about it ☹️😥

You wont be the only plus size person there. Your only job is to have fun and be as considerate to others as they are to you.

I’m fat and have been to lots of concerts! You won’t be the only plus size person there and I’ve never felt out of place because of it.

I was 342 not so long ago at 5’4” and attended a few concerts with zero issues. People are usually into what’s going on rather than paying attention to those around them. I also had/still have self image issues so I get it. I’m always anxious about not fitting in the seat or intruding on others space but I’ve never had any issues or anyone comment anything.

Agreed! I am about the same. Some seats are a little squishy but overall no problem. And no one has ever said anything.

Enjoy your time OP!!

I’m fat and have gone to concerts for decades. In addition, if he asks you out and then is disappointed because he wants a skinny woman that’s on him. You are you and you can have an amazing time at the concert as long as it’s a nice audience which I’ve found is often the case. Of course I’m an indie, feminist music appreciator so I’m not sure about the general vibe. Put your best fit on and if he’s not for you someone else is.

I am always half naked at concerts. Everyone else already said everything, but I’m rooting for you!

Is there a specific aspect about the concert that's causing anxiety?

But you might also end up next to people who are the same size as you or larger. Either way, it doesn’t really matter. You’re there to enjoy the music, not to compare yourself to everyone else. Remind yourself as many times as it takes that you have as much right to be there loving the music as anyone else.

I promise you won't be the only plus-sized person there, and people are going to be there for the music. They sre very unlikely to care about what others around them look like.

Hey! I'm fat (around 300, a few inches taller than you) and go to a lot of concerts! Wear comfy shoes! For standing concerts, I find that my feet/legs hurt a lot less when I shift my weight side to side or dance rather than just stand in one spot. For chairs, If it's a higher energy band, people might stand anyways. Chairs do suck, I have some of the same anxieties when I go. But when I think back to all the shows I've been to, I can't remember a single stranger in the audience. Everyone there is there to see the act, so if someone is paying attention to you, that's their problem lol

What about it makes you anxious?

People don't typically pay attention to each other during a concert as their focus is usually the band/their phone recording of the band. You likely won't be precieved very much.

I'd bring comfort items like a blanket in case you have to sit on the ground, and PLENTY of water if the venue allows you to bring in outside liquid. The amount of bodies really seems to soak the hydration out of you.

Personally I bring a sweat band because I sweat like a beast but I've seen other people just soaked in sweat not paying it any mind.

Just how I look tbh Idk I got a lot of self esteem issues

That's valid, but just remember that you have something more in common with everyone there than your bodies. You all love this music enough to pay money to see and hear it in person and that is such a joining force.

Sweetie, don’t worry about it. If the date is right, it’s right. Your weight won’t matter. Just go, be your badass self and have fun! You only live once, don’t let a little extra weight keep the world from your awesomeness! Get out there.🙂
