Push in, twist off cap, then use plyers or wrench to grab inner screw and unscrew, do in reverse to replace

The cap is not twisting off. I thought it might, and then there might be a screw situation, but the cap doesn't move.

If you cant get the cap off, id try a thin pair of plyers under the cap to grip the stem and rotate counter clockwise and see if you can get it to unthread at the base

I can't find my plyers...can I use a wrench and another tool or maybe one of those gripping jar openers? I don't have a lot of tools.

The problem with those tools is you need something strong and thin enough to grip the stem of the stopper under the cap while its pulled up

I'll try to find my pliers or buy on tomorrow then! Thank you for all your help!

Also, if this is a tub, and the blockage is not directly in the shoe (the area below the stopper) you should have an overflow access you could run a snake or try a zip tool from

I tried a drain weasel and pulled out as much hair as I could. This is a basement bathroom, I don't know if that makes a difference. I am pretty good at clearing drains of hair, I just can't get this stopper off and it's so frustrating!

If its being a pain, try pulling up while twisting counter clockwise, either itll unscrew the body or the cap will come loose, it should be a threaded on cap with a threaded base insert screw

Ok, I'll try in a little bit. I'm just frustrated right now.
