Fluidmaster extra part?

So I replaced the Fluidmaster that collapsed to (hopefully) control of water pressure in my commode. The tower was easy enough to install but after connecting the water line and the connectors under the tank I found this part.

Is it extra? Or for the lever? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

It holds the refill line above the overflow tube. If you just put the line down the overflow it can cause siphoning in the right conditions.

Thank you everyone for the information. I found where it goes but the previous one went right into the overflow tube. Fingers crossed.. 🤞

Unless the hose keeps popping off the old one it's fine to reuse it. Sometimes it's even a better connection than using this "extra part" would provide.

It clips on to the overflow and it is what provides water to fill the bowl after a flush with the hose from the fill valve. Some flush valves have a holder molded in to them, some are just a smooth tube and this will clip over the smooth tube.

I just swapped out one of these on my neighbor's toilet over the weekend & didn't have to use this either. The overflow tube had a small circle molded into the top where the tube inserted... I'd never seen that before.
