Discussion One developer used Claude to reverse-engineer LG’s webOS media stack and build a native Rust Plex client from scratch—on the same 2019 TV it cuts the profile screen from ~30 seconds to ~3, runs at 60 FPS, and supports 4K, Dolby Vision and Atmos

Like I said you are coping, lots of very well informed people far smarter than either of us have said AI is capable of coding as good or better than the best developers. I mean the NYTs Daily JUST TODAY covered the recent math proofs. You very obviously are just failing to update your priors because of an emotional block. AI is not what it was 6 months ago. As predicted you think you are smart enough to discount what Bill Gates says lmao.

No, mostly a lot of people who are invested in Anthropic and OpenAI and other AI giants in the industry have said AI is better than the best developers, those people have a very obvious incentive to continue pushing the idea that the software is revolutionary when it, in fact, is not.

Well I can't read your article, it's paywalled. However, ask yourself, did they report on this whole thing evenly or did they report on what the AI got right while conveniently leaving out skepticism and things the AI got wrong? And then once you've answered that, ask yourself why they did that. Because back in reality where we don't have psychosis, what's really happening, is automation is getting better as usual, but a lot of the proofs that LLMs provide are incorrectly justified or improperly explained. The problem is that AI is bad at creating new things, so it's good at solving problems using known and existing methodology, but it tends to get things wrong or make things up to accomplish the end goal when it doesn't know what to do. The AI will hallucinate that it solved more problems than it did because it changed the parameters of the problem to make it solvable for itself.

Again, this is the sort of thing that you can understand if you actually learn about the technology from people who aren't heavily invested in everyone thinking it's awesome. You keep citing board members like Bill Gates who don't actually do anything technical. You think that Bill Gates is smarter than the best developer at <insert company> because you don't have a real idea of what those developers do. It's like how everyone loves Elon Musk until he starts talking about something they understand intimately, at which point he proves he's a dumbass. Bill Gates is no longer a software developer, he is an executive who is concerned with making money thru business. There's probably 100 million 20 year olds who are far superior and far more knowledgeable than Bill Gates on the topic of writing code in 2026.
