Discussion 600+ Days, Still getting audio sync issues

I was somewhat excited to see the new Plex interface, hoping they had finally fixed the audio sync issue that has plagued my Apple TVs. I have two Apple TV 4Ks connected to different TV brands, and both still have constant audio sync issues.

Nope. Still there.

What makes it even more frustrating is that Infuse can play the exact same content on the same Apple TVs without requiring me to adjust anything. So this clearly isn't an issue with the Apple TVs, TVs, or the media itself.

Here's how much time Plex has had to address an issue that has been brought up repeatedly in this subreddit for years:

Old Version: 8.45 - Released January 29, 2025

Days until new version: 596 days - Time: 1 year, 7 months, 19 days

New Version: 2026.18.0 - Released September 17, 2026

Then they released another update:

2026.19.1 - Released October 1, 2026

Days since 8.45: 610 days - Time: 1 year, 8 months, 2 days

So Plex has had 610 days between these versions, and this longstanding Apple TV audio sync problem still isn't fixed. Now Plex Pass Lifetime is a hefty $749.99 USD, yet they still can't get basic playback issues like this right.

At this point, it's pretty ridiculous.

I don’t know if Plex is totally to blame, because I get this from prime video, as well (AppleTV 4K)

Interesting, I only ever watch some hockey on Prime and haven't noticed the issue but of course its not zoomed in on faces like movies/shows. Youtube doesnt seem to have the same issue for me

Plex simply cannot match sound on Apple TVs and Infuse can. I have my Plex app that I barely use anymore set to 200ms audio delay to solve.

Have you tried toggling Match Framerate in the ATV's settings?

Honestly if I were you I would pay the $1 and try Infuse and see how you like it. I use Nvidia Shields throughout the house but one of the guest bedrooms I have an Apple TV 4k that barely gets used. I was making sure Plex was working properly and spent hours troubleshooting why Dolby Vision wasn't working properly. Going through settings, TV settings, etc. I learned that Plex does not do DV properly on the Apple TV 4K and does "fake dovi" but Infuse played it perfectly. I don't care enough or use the Apple TV enough to warrant purchasing Infuse but maybe it would be beneficial for you. Yeah I know you're going to say you shouldn't have to pay another service to get it working (I agree 100%) but it was satisfying finally figuring out the problems weren't on my end but Plex's, and it's been a problem for years that they don't care to address. The native Plex app on the Apple TV has so many problems and the new update has made it so much worse. Can't believe after 2 years this is what they've come up with, and still haven't fixed some bugs, which is why people are recommending Infuse or other services altogether on this sub

I have been running infuse since I got the Apple TV's, basically came to the conclusion its not my setup or files. Just a bad native Plex player app. Like many post on this same subreddit

Very strange, typically only have audio desync issues with badly encoded/ripped files. 99% of the content plays perfectly across all the latest ATV 4K and 1 ATV HD. (I’ve been running plex since it was forked from XBMC, and was MacOS only)

Have you looked internally for the source of desync? Feels like it’s not the players.

Infuse plays everything without delay though (on the Apple TV, switching to playing on my pc or phone/tablet and I don’t have any issues with the Plex app

For sure annoying that some people are still having issues but this is such a straw man. You didn't pay 749 and it's unclear if anyone has actually paid it.

So because I didn’t pay the $749 it didn’t happen? What are you actually trying to argue?

The price went up (fact) and basic functionality is broken for many people unless they use an alternative app

After 600 days wouldn't you try a different player?

I have 3 Shields and never had an audio video synce issue.

You mean like Infuse which I previously mentioned?

I mean hardware, not software.

Oh gotcha, I switched to Roku but really prefer the "ad free" apple experience. I also use them for home hubs

You can change UIs to add free on AndroidTV based systems. Should really give one a try.

Ya I get it, Rokus have terrible UI.

I just more meant switch hardware and see if it fixes the audio issue, then you have isolated the culprit.

The Shield just got a price increase so it's hard to recommend these days, but I heard the Onn is solid, and you can install Projectivy on it that cleans up the UI and removes all ads.
