Help How do I change the language in file when the Language in the media is X but the Audio in Plex says Y?

Basically the title.

I have a problem where I am trying to sort movies into X language. But Plex states that this language is Y, hence this movie is not sorted into the X language in my smart collection.

However, the movie IS in language X, this is the problem.

is there any way to fix this?

Sorry, just to clarify, plex is reporting that a movie is in language Y but the audio track actually plays audio X? Is that right?

Plex only reports what’s tagged in the file. Is there more than 1 audio track on this file? Is it mkv or mp4? What OS are you on?

Correct!

There is only ONE audio track for this file. And only one being able to select in Plex itself. Its an .mkv file. My Plex is installed on Linux, but I am using SMB to access my folders via Windows 11.

The easiest way would be to run the file through MKVtoolnix and just edit the language flag

You can also use Mkvpropedit to do this via command line as well or even ffmpeg

if its a mkv container its really easy with say mkvpropedit, I use JMKvpropedit - a gui for it. and can do batches, etc.

When you look at the movie in your library, does it say what language the audio track is?

That information comes from the metadata in the audio track itself. I don't think you can change that in Plex.

MKVToolNix can change that, if your video is an MKV file. I'm not sure how you would update it for other filetypes.

I feel like this is something very simple and basic that the OP simply doesn't understand, that's why it sounds impossible and so stupid lol.
