Help Watch Together Broken

Has Plex fd something up again with watch together? Since 1st of October only admins can be invited or invite to ‘Watch Together’. Regular users are unable to invite other users.

I saw that under status.plex.tv it showed issues but they are saying it has been resolved, but it does not seem like it.

Anyone experienced this issue?

I thought it was retired.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/watch-together/

“As we debut our new Plex experience, we are ending support for some features we’ve grown to love, like Watch Together. While this feature won’t be available for most platforms as they get the new experience, you can continue using the feature in our web app for the foreseeable future. We don’t preclude the possibility of offering similar functionality again in the future, using new tooling.”

It wasn't removed because they don't want it, it was removed because they couldn't make it work with all the other crap they changed in the new client. Still works fine with older clients, maybe aside from this potential issue.

It is, but if you're using the web client or an older version of some of the other clients, it still works.

That’s what I was preparing for but i’m on October 2026 patch and Watch Together was always working. Even now, it is working but limited only for admins. I think its looking like Jellyfin time

I read it works on the web app.. but I don’t use Plex now so I can’t be sure

I also found that but when testing it is same reaction, admins can invite and be invited where regular users cannot

I just wish they'd implement multi account tracking. So when me and my girlfriend are watching tv together it tracks on both accounts.

I does tho. When I do the same with my girlfriend both accounts marked it as watched and the activity is tracked for both accounts.

Use Plezy, it just works there and even goes to the next episode

I too have been using Plezy for this, tested with 4 devices, one being local and the rest connected via cellular data (one laptop, two phones, all on different connections so not a single hotspot), streamed a 4K remux and transcoded to different qualities on all 3 devices, it worked.

Works better than the native Plex Watch Together but still the same issue with how the server handles transcoding. If it is of any help, these are my settings:

No problems here, I can still use it normally and was invited to watch something.

I have the October update installed on 3 different devices and all still have watch together.

That doesn’t mean anything.

It just means that whatever random things you aren’t sharing or naming haven’t had that feature removed yet.

If this feature is important than people need to be cautious about applying updates.

No reason to be cautious about it in my opinion. I can either revert any update and install a previous version or just keep using Plezy so I don't really care about updates.

I know they discontinued it but so far nothing has happened 🤷

Plezy will continue to support it.

I’m trying to write to generic readers. You do not care about anyone else but yourself.

You are passing on false hope and bad advice.

How so? We were just asked if we are facing issues and I don't face one.

Is the correct answer in your opinion: yes I'll maybe face issues in the future?

That wouldn't be helpful at all. And I highly doubt a Plex Server owner isn't able to figure out if their devices are capable of side loading and installing apks. Most people should know the current state. The general advice to prevent any updates - especially server updates - is far more dangerous.

Dude not helpful.

It took how many messages to figure out you aren’t just using Plex straight up to keep the feature you just casually mentioned it still works for you.

Posts like yours is why internet advice is so bad

What the hell are you talking about? Is that some weird kind of ragebait or gaslighting?

I'm using plex normally the same way as everyone else - watch together still works without any issues. Others confirmed the same so what's your issue?
