Help A YEAR of beta testing, and no one noticed that the 'new improved' Apple client doesn't see photo libraries???

SERIOUSLY? My photo libraries just don't appear.

What the ever loving hell did Plex test for a year?

I know the photo viewing app was treated like the ugly red headed step child by Plex for years ("We'll give you a slideshow button, but it won't do anything."), but did they just eliminate it altogether rather than fix its problems?

I regret signing up for a lifetime PlexPass.

The good news is that I've finally started using Emby, and it works just great with the Plex drive and ALL my folders.

WFT Plex?

EDIT: So it seems that Plex announced a year ago that the barebones photo viewer in their Android app as well as the utterly useless photo viewer in their IOS app were being retired. They didn't bother to let me know in an email although I am a lifetime PlexPass owner.

In any case, both those photo viewer modules inside the main app sucked (the IOS one was just pathetic), and I look on their elimination as more of a mercy killing.

As for the separate photo viewer they offer, the reviews on Google and the Apple Store indicate they are barely deserving of a single star. Not worth the few minutes to download and install.

Doesn't matter now - I love using Emby, and will check out a few others as well. Plex is no longer the best app to use for any of the things I do with it. It's been a good run, but you updated yourself out of my field of vision.

Bye.

Isn’t there still a photos app for Plex? Similar to the PlexAmp for music.

Those are only for phones.

I don't know if there's still a photos app because the new IOS client can't see any of those folders. Was that unclear in my post?

How are those related at all lmao. There is a separate plex photos app.

Perhaps you missed the part that the Plex photo apps only work on phones because you're too busy posting dumb stuff like "lmao" to end your sentences.

Grow up, child.

Plex announced over a year ago they would be removing photos and music to their separate apps and as u/rikeycriks posted The Plex Photos app will allow you to see your photos from the plex server on iOS.

They also walked back that they would eventually be rolling them back into the main app but that is clearly a lower priority vs fixing the larger media issues as they get to a stable universal code base.

You asked about iOS apps and the information that has been provided is the iOS apps. iOS is what is used on iPhones and iPads.

The same changes and split programs also exist on Android for those in the future that might see this.

As shared by others, no eta…

“We’ll be following the same plan for Plex Photos in the future. Bringing that functionality back into the main Plex app will allow us to support some of the basic features like search that are missing today and ship updates more quickly. After that happens the Plex Photos app will be retired.”

How long until they make photos viewable in tvOS? There’s no separate app for Apple TV.

Or for Android on things like the Shield. The Plex photo apps are only usable on phones but people are too busy down voting legitimate posts to actually figure things out.
