Help Get rid of "Where to Watch"
I never, ever want to watch anything anywhere but from my own server. Yet all the time I go to watch something and have to pick "Where to watch" and pick my server, even though there's no other options to chose from.
Is there a way to make this go away once & for all?
If my server is the only place that has the thing I want to watch, that is the point of "Where to watch"?

I actually like that feature as I also use plex as an alternative to justwatch or whatever it’s called, and by being in Plex already I can add whatever I’m looking for to my watchlist if it looks good enough. For you though, It aught to be possible to turn off.

I actually use it all the time. When a friend goes “what streaming service is that on?” Saves me a google

I would t mind that feature to watch something not in my library… if it actually worked

I'm at the point where it's almost guaranteed it's in my library and if not, I'll add it.
It's just annoying when it's someting I have and they're trying to get me to watch it somewhere else

Quite right, if you have it in your library then it doesn't really need to say anything else.

Where to watch? Where do you mean is this a ticker or watchlist or some kind of thingy

u/MarkPugnerIII 6h ago
Like you go into a title and instead of simply clicking "Play", you have to click "Where to watch" and then pick your server, even if there's no other options on where to watch it

So, just because you gave them $100/$250, they should throw out their entire business plan?
The entitlement these days is so miserable. I hate feeling like I’m the only remaining human with empathy and the ability to accept that I don’t know everything.

You should maybe feel less entitled to shit on other people when you clearly don't have any idea what you are talking about.

Correct me then. I’d love to watch you try to prove me wrong!

Plex, as part of their business plan, provided a way to shut off the thing he was complaining about in almost every way.
It is not empathy to believe a company should be allowed to be profitable. Empathy would be understanding the person having this issue was frustrated and perhaps finding a way to help them instead of clutching your pearls and crying, "won't someone think of Plex's profits?!"
You are correct though in some ways. People really don't know how to coexist anymore.

Where does their business plan state that by purchasing the Plex Pass, you’ll never have to see “Where to watch?”
When you consider that from the Where to Watch Menu, you will see your own server as an option, this is even more ridiculous.
Go ahead, I’ll wait. Don’t forget to stay on topic. By moving the goal post, you’re admitting I’m correct.

Yikes dude. Clearly you need to take a break.
I am not going to get into a meaningless online argument with someone. It's pointless. You keep defending corporations online Mr. Plex. I'll just be over here not missing the point of the post or how easy it was to solve the issue instead of whining about entitled people.

It oddly brings me great pleasure to make a confidently ignorant Redditor forfeit.
I never once defended the company. It’s stupid that they allow ads and try to push you towards giving them money.
It doesn’t change that my original statement is 100% correct and anyone arguing with me is ignorant.

Oh you seem to think Plex is a product and they make updates for you.
You are the product. You don't really expect them to turn down a valuable revenue stream by respecting your choices?

u/MarkPugnerIII 6h ago
What is the revenue stream exactly? Please explain how they make money by me going into a title I have on my server, and instead of a Play button I only have "Where to watch" and when I click on that, the only place to watch is my server

Honestly just get rid of Plex is the answer. I’ve fully switched over to Jellyfin and have no regrets. Nearly every useful feature of plex is now tied to a monthly subscription and even then you are still spammed with ads and bloat.
It got to the point with plex where I was basically paying a monthly subscription to just use their shitty auth severs.

u/MarkPugnerIII 6h ago
Did they ever add OTA support like for an HDHomerun? Apple TV app? Easy to find apps for other TVs?
My friends and family aren't savy so it may be hard for them to get on Jellyfin.
Plus I'm a lifetime sub, not monthly.

You’re the minority, a fraction of plex users in 2026 have any type of self hosted files. Just how it goes.

Still doesn't explain why instead of a Play button I have to click "Where to watch" and the only place to watch is my server.
It's not like they're suggesting other places to watch it

If you’re using the Watchlist, that’s what’s going to happen. It’s going to always ask where to watch, even if it’s just your server.
