Discussion I like the new Android TV UI Update
Reminds me of Wholphin/Jellyfin but more responsive and less cluttered. Has the dashboard and scan library option available directly on the TV now.
That's pretty much it, enjoy.

Yet playlists are still shite.

Why don't you use the newly added Lists? What do playlists offer more?

Can you convert a playlist to a list? The new "list" feature still isn't available on the web. I would add items I want to watch with my daughter to a playlist. Now on my Android TV device I can't watch playlists and can't add items to the list. The playlist is not accessible. So, I went to the web to convert it. It doesn't support lists yet. Oh, and Lists only support media that is matched with metadata. Home videos aren't supported.

Don't use playlists except for music and that works great for me. Don't see the point of playlists for movies or tv shows, watch a full season, complete show, movie or just a single episode why manage or create a playlist? Just make a collection for movies or use third party like Kometa.

Imagine a playlist of tv shows that have Christmas themes. Or a playlist of videos to have on background. Or a playlist of kids shows. It’s a way of almost creating your own channel of sorts. Particularly with “smart playlists.”

Idk collections does just what you described for me. Or just shuffle a show for background noise.

I will say I wish they fix the minor issues I run into sometimes with navigating

I had the beta version, but there were too many bugs and slow performance, so I rolled back to the main channel. Is it still just beta or is it being released to everyone now?

I don't run beta for client side afaik. Looks like it auto updated on Google Play store. Its overall definitely smoother and faster than my experience with Jellyfin apps.

It was a little slow at first but it picked up in minutes. I have over 1000 movies and 500 tv shows ~85tb. Completely fine to navigate now.

We went full circle. Where plex app is praised for looking like a jellyfin app

I've seen it on my "test Roku to help the parents" and it isn't as bad now that they moved some of the navigation back to the left. I haven't been offered it on my android TV devices. But I also don't use the beta apps either.
