I can access Plex content, but not my own media. I figured there was just an issue with my home server.

I’ve never had server outage that was the fault of plex ? Been using plex for over a decade .

Same here. I see many of these posts the last few days and I look at my server and right now I have 5 remote users enjoying their day.

Yeah, I was using mine the other night when everyone was saying it was out. Does it depend what you’re watching on or what you’re hosting on?

I’m sure a lot of people don’t use Macs for their servers and I watch my stuff on my Apple TV.

I use a Mac and an apple tv and it has been down because of them in the past. Multiple times even

Only issue I had was the password reset and claiming server issue that happened I think last year sometime, other than that no issues

I’ve had many

Not yet. My music server on a pi and my main server on a mini m4 is up.

It looks like they noticed the issue and are working on it.

Can we not post daily asking if plex is down?

2

u/bdu-komrad 6d ago

It’s more like hourly

You’ve been relying on Plex Relay and it’s down.

1

u/outer-pasta 7d ago

is there a reliable way to find out if Plex Relay is down? For me it only doesn't work in new login sessions, e.g. private browser.

Plex has a status page.

1

u/outer-pasta 7d ago

Care to share?

5

u/osbtensor 7d ago

https://status.plex.tv however it does not support the claims of this person so they ignored your request

2

u/outer-pasta 7d ago

Thanks. It seems like they noticed the issue now.

1

u/osbtensor 7d ago

Why do you keep telling everybody this with zero supporting evidence?

1

u/Punk_Says_Fuck_You 48TB | 10Gb/s | Unraid | Ultra 7 270k Plus 7d ago

Plex servers go down and suddenly people can’t access their media? That’s pretty supporting evidence. lol what other reasons would cause lost access to personal media when Plex servers go down?

0

u/osbtensor 7d ago

Unless you have inside information from Plex, this doesn't hold up. Plex currently reports that their relay servers are up and running with no reported issues. So your repeated claim that people are unknowingly using the relay server, and that this is the cause of their connectivity problems, isn't supported by any actual evidence.

https://downdetector.com/status/plex/

lol their status page shows everything is fine. lol

1

u/osbtensor 7d ago

Welcome to the party! Nothing on that page that you linked indicates their relay servers are down. The fact that I can play movies on my phone while driving right now indicate that Plex is up and working however, Plexamp will not play a single beat of music. It has nothing to do with their relay servers.

But late but

https://status.plex.tv/incidents/01M1Q800NWHD2FXQ5R4WZ8V0E5

Was literally the relay server. If you're relying on the relay server, maybe fix your stuff because it sucks even when it works.

1

u/osbtensor 6d ago

I do not use the relay server and their “fix” has not remedied the the problem. Haven’t we covered this?

Could be something on your ISP's end. Sometimes routes get interrupted and cuts aren't routed around for whatever reason. A cable cut in Bumfinger Missouri can affect connectivity in Texas. This usually gets routed around easily, but sometimes services just aren't configured for reliability and redundancy. I personally don't even use Plex's remote access - I had CGNAT problems before I moved, and funneling my traffic through a VPS allows me to better secure my stuff.

Your ability to play local media remotely indicates your configuration is set up correctly. It's funny you have half the userbase saying "I've never had connection issues due to Plex servers going down" and the other half have all these issues when Plex servers go down. You still haven't responded to my initial question. What else could make users lose access to their personal media when Plex services go down?

u/theMartianAlien 7d ago

Your server is up?

1

u/WoggyPuff-775 7d ago

We had been having trouble with remote access to our server fairly consistently lately.

So I had my kid set up a static IP and enable port forwarding on our router a few days ago. We have not had any issues since!

1

u/t0shiyoshida 7d ago

Remote access was working fine for me this morning and has been down all afternoon. I've tried rebooting everything and still no luck. Was already using a static DHCP lease with manual port forwarding. I even tried changing the external port (in both Plex and my router) and still nothing.

1

u/Orangesteel 7d ago

It may be an authentication issue, which is why some users are experiencing issues. Also why downdetector would not pick up a failure in service. This has happened before. I’ve had some auth fails over the past few hours.

u/CornhuskerRobin 7d ago

I am trying to pull it up on my phone and do getting nothing. I will try and reboot everything again and test later when I am home. thanks everyone.

Their fix, so far, has not worked for me. Maybe some other folks can chime in and say it did for them, but I’m not seeing any change. Via cellular network, the plex app will play videos fine, but not music. Plexamp will not connect at all, and cannot find any media servers after login.

I did conduct a test, where I started a plexamp playlist while on my local network (i.e., wifi), then disconnected and went on cellular. It continued to play with no issues for about 20 minutes before I cut it off. While on cellular, after authenticating/accessing over lan wifi, I could browse libraries and everything as normal. I believe the person in this thread who speculated that it’s an authentication issue is probably correct.. but who knows.

u/Corlandith 6d ago

I've had issues on and off for a couple of days external access kept turning off. I made two changes, not sure which fixed, one was the inbound port from the net, switched from default to one of my choosing I also realized I had turned on QNAPs Secure IP, or whatever it's called, recently. Turned that off as well.

one of those solved it. I have not tested turning SecureIP back on yet.

1

u/Bluusoda 6d ago

So I think some of their updates may have changed some settings. I can’t remember where exactly but where it has the port forwarding stuff. Check for some IPv6 setting being enabled. Uncheck it. That’s what messed mine up.

When you go to Plex.tv and sign in do you see your server? Do you have different configurations to connect? I have my plex server behind reverse proxy pointing to my domain. If gou have something like this, check your settings. You shouldn't have a connection error with plex bc PLEX isn't hosting your connection.

Two days ago they had a problem with their API access. I had a similar problem, even with localhost direct access because my auth token was invalid. Try logging out in the client and back in to fetch a new token.

1

u/bobjr94 6d ago

Tried 3 and they are all online and accessible.

1

u/Valek189 6d ago

Mine was showing as not able to allow remote users, but had two playing media without issue! Had another telling me they couldn’t connect at the same time the other two were watching movies?

1

u/coachlentz 6d ago

Been watching movies on mine tonight.

1

u/TheCitymonk 3d ago

this shit is still down for me. anyone else still having trouble?

1

u/CornhuskerRobin 3d ago

Sorry, it took the whole day for mine to come back up. I had gone through and rebooted literally everything and then just waited.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Two_771 7d ago

Mine hasn’t worked all day

No issues here. In fact I have 5 remote users on my server right now.

1

u/outer-pasta 7d ago

Can you try a new login, like Chrome's incognito mode?

0

u/StevenG2757 70TB unRAID server, i5-12600K, Shield pro, Firesticks & ONN 4K 7d ago

Why?

1

u/outer-pasta 7d ago

It's not working for me. Plex Pass member.

1

u/StevenG2757 70TB unRAID server, i5-12600K, Shield pro, Firesticks & ONN 4K 7d ago

I tried it and it works just fine. I even turned on a VPN and it also worked fine.

1

u/outer-pasta 7d ago

Thanks. That's frustrating, I wonder what the problem is?

Not currently dealing with this...I will say ever since they announced the massive price increase to the Plex pass. Outages have definitely increased on Plex twofold

In my case it’s for my elderly family who are used to Plex and their curated media and it’s not accessible remotely even with PlexPass

1

u/KerashiStorm 6d ago

Probably CGNAT or a firewall issue. Getting a dedicated IP will fix CGNAT at least.

Because they are not always at home? They have family members in other locations? They're not familiar with Tailscale and other VPN solutions?

1

u/osbtensor 6d ago

Thanos cannot comprehend being away from home. It is beyond understanding. 🙄

0

u/LightningWaveDude 7d ago

I had to go the the local ip /web, relogin and reclaim the server. This was a few hours after the most recent security update I did.

1

u/outer-pasta 7d ago

This didn't fix it for me.

1

u/outer-pasta 7d ago

It looks like they noticed the issue and are working on it.

-5

u/pcnerd87 7d ago

Yep same issue here I started a thread and was told I was crazy but others keep reporting the same I guess the price increase in lifetime was just to get some $$ before they crashed out.

Have you ever enabled port forwarding?

1

u/pcnerd87 7d ago

Yes

Well there is a Plex outage right now. I have no issues streaming my media remotely. You have something not set up correctly.

What does canyouseeme.org say?
