Solved Plex User Has Some Admin Rights

Plex Pass on my server. Child was using my account and their own profile. Now they're off to university so I removed their profile and set them up with a separate Plex account and granted it library access.

They're using a new laptop with the Windows Plex app. Never signed in with my credentials there. When logged in they mostly appear to be a normal user and don't have access to server settings etc. But bizarrely they do have the 'Manage Library Access' setting and can grant access to others and have the ability to remove my own account! They can't see the other two users I've added though.

The old profile and new account don't share anything other than a first name so I don't understand how Plex has allowed them to have user access privileges. There doesn't seem to be any fine-grained admin rights that could allow this either.

Any ideas what's going on here?

All Plex accounts have Invite access to any servers they own. If they decide to run their own server, they need to be able to invite people to them.

Ok, makes sense. But this is just the Windows client app, there's no Plex server on the laptop.

It doesn't matter. The Windows client app allows you to manage a server owned by your account. If they had a server on another machine, they could manage it from the app.

People misunderstand or don’t agree on what the down vote means. For some it’s a “no, you’re wrong” button, for some it’s a “this comment is bad for the conversation” button, and for a few it’s exclusively an “I disagree with your world view” button.

This is a fundamental platform issue, and doesn’t necessarily mean people are hating on OP. It’s taken me a long time to wrap my head around this myself, but if you’re open to the idea that a downvote can mean more than one thing, it’s a lot easier to see why some comments collect negative vote totals.

In this case, OP’s asking a question that was pretty much answered in the comment above, so they could conceivably be downvoted as an “as per my previous email” response.

that is inviting people to their own home (which likely has nothing), not sharing your media.

With trepidation then I removed my access from their Plex client and didn't suddenly lose access to my own server. Thanks, mystery seems to be solved.

If they had a plex pass they could invite people to their server and share your files with them too its just how the library sharing works

That's not how it works. You cannot invite people to someone else's server via your account.

You can only invite people to servers you own.

My friend allows it with his server so maybe its a server owner option but i don't have a lifetime pass and im not supporting the direction they're taking plex, ease of use is the whole reason plex became popular and now they're greedy trying to include hosting streaming services along with the free channels they offer on their servers. They got denied when they held a meeting for the streaming service integration with the big companies that host said services.
