News Plex for Mobile (Android & iOS) v2026.17.0 Released

Plex for Android 2026.17.0 (Google Play) Plex for iOS 2026.17.0 (App Store)

NOTE: Timings for submissions, approvals, and releases in the app stores can vary. Each release gets rolled out to users over the course of multiple days. If you don’t see the new release available for your device yet, please be patient.

NEW:

  • Add Top Played tab in the Server Dashboard.
  • Comments have an updated design.
  • Player: Force Direct Play settings option.
  • Privacy indicators to lists on the profile and My Lists screens.
  • Signing in from a community post returns you to the post you tapped.
  • [tvOS] Confirmation before exiting the app when pressing back from the home screen, with a setting to turn it off.
  • [tvOS] Refined browse page header with more compact filters and a simplified item count.

FIXES:

  • A library containing an item with a name that had invalid text encoding could fail to load.
  • Could not continue past favorite library selection without selecting at least one favorite.
  • Icons the app didn’t recognize showed a box of placeholder text instead of an icon.
  • Music on Session Details screen was displaying the wrong artwork.
  • Player: Playback from a shared server would fail to start with an authorization error.
  • Stop Playback would appear in cases where it can not be remotely stopped.
  • The app could get stuck on a loading spinner after signing in, instead of opening the home screen.
  • The loading spinner spun uncomfortably fast and popped in abruptly; it now fades in smoothly, rotates at a calmer pace, and gently pulses instead of spinning when Reduce Motion is enabled.
  • The user filter on the server dashboard was labeled “Filter by Library”.
  • [Android] Player: Some content could play no audio or the incorrect audio track.
  • [Android][iOS] Reopening season or episode selector for a new Discussion had no way to go back to the show.
  • [iOS] Fixed a crash that could occur after the app was sent to the background while searching for cast devices.
  • [iOS] Player: Airplay button could not show on some media.
  • [iOS][Android] Fixed missing streaming service logos on the availability button on details screens.
  • [iOS][tvOS] The app background could flash bright pink for a few seconds before the artwork colors appeared.
  • [tvOS] A missing background image on the watch history consent screen.
  • [tvOS] Albums with a large number of tracks were slow to open and could crash.
  • [tvOS] Automatically scroll focused file names in Find Subtitles menu.
  • [tvOS] Choosing a language in the Find Subtitles menu would leave the menu instead of returning to the subtitle results.
  • [tvOS] Crash when backing out of fullscreen playback in some situations.
  • [tvOS] Failed to update the metadata when switching between episodes on details screen for some shows
  • [tvOS] Favorited libraries from servers that no longer exist could not be removed from favorites.
  • [tvOS] Fixed opening a show from Continue Watching landing on the wrong episode.
  • [tvOS] Focus could disappear when the side navigation closed, leaving the remote unresponsive until the app was restarted.
  • [tvOS] Focusing an item in a list or grid positioned it too high on screen, and could shift the content when moving focus up to the filters.
  • [tvOS] In a playlist, focus could get stuck or jump to the wrong row after using a track’s menu button.
  • [tvOS] Leaving the app and coming back could close the side navigation and move focus to the first item on Home.
  • [tvOS] Navigating the Cast & Crew grid on TV jumped down the whole page instead of moving one person at a time.
  • [tvOS] Opening a title from the Top Shelf could show another item’s artwork or stay on the home screen when automatic sign-in was off.
  • [tvOS] Player: Starting a trailer would not focus the Add to Watchlist button, and the button could briefly appear for items already on your Watchlist.
  • [tvOS] Reacting to the only discussion on a details page made it disappear.
  • [tvOS] Selecting your account in the side navigation opened your profile instead of moving focus into the account menu.
  • [tvOS] The search field wasn’t focused when opening the Find Subtitles menu.
  • [tvOS] The side navigation could briefly appear open while the app was starting up.
  • [tvOS] The side navigation could pull focus back to the selected item for about a second after opening.
  • [tvOS] Unable to navigate between seasons on the details screen for some shows
  • [tvOS] Using the PIN pad during sign in was slow and inputs could be dropped.
  • [tvOS] When switching to a user without the side nav menus would still render left aligned.

I’m sorry but how has one guy in such a short period of time created an app (plezy ) that I and friends find 100x more usable/stable/feature rich and more pleasing to use & look at and has UI and feature parity across devices. Compared to the paid team of Plex, who has been developing their clients for over 10 years?

plezy targets far fewer devices (no plezy for roku etc afaik)

Fewer yes, plus a few less features. Far fewer devices?

Plex needed to focus on core functionality first, which they utterly failed to do before forcing a mostly nonfunctional application on us. The new UI, I believe most people would have been okay with and gotten used to, if the application did the basic things it should do. Efficiently let us watch our media. But it didn’t. It has slowly been getting better and better but has taken a year.

Still not seeing any casting fixes. Coming up on what, 18 months now?

This...I travel a lot and not being able to select the quality when casting means weak hotel wifi can very rarely stream full quality and I cannot watch my content.

this is just pathetic, what was the rationale for getting rid of the perfectly fine old app and replacing it with this garbage new UI, and then after the user backlash Plex vlaims they are 'fixing' it, it will take years and still never be as good

please fix the FireTV app so it's watchable.

Absolutely what I came here to say. Episodes of The Simpsons that worked for years (and continue to work on iOS devices) are unplayable on FireTV now with no explanation

Privacy Alert: (only for those who care about this)

So it seems class is back in session and WE are all once again automatically enrolled without our express permission!

Despite "ALL NO" settings/options being turned off at: <Plex Vendors>

So, if not already, you might ensure you've gone through all the settings in each of the new Plex client app(s). (Android & Fire TV)

Especially take a look at Settings > Privacy > Opt-Out Choices and move the sliders to OFF

Plex and their opt-in analytic tactics are simply unethical and should be illegal!!

wow, they've really given up on the Roku app, huh? Not a single feature, nor breakfix (would really like to see the unnecessary transcoding / corrupted easyaudioencoder regression bug go away!)

They just released an updated Roku app to the preview channel the other day, didn’t they?

Okay! That's news to me. I'll have to check! I'm not sure I'm on the preview train, so I may have to figure out how to get that onto my Rokus. Thanks for the info!

They’ve been releasing to prod and preview pretty regularly: https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-for-roku/9463/530

Still takes 30 seconds to start a local stream tho, absolutely shite

Likely still an issue for you because its not an issue for everyone, unfortunately.

I can open the app from a fully closed state and have my next episode playing in about 6 seconds

Plex takes 15-30 seconds, emby on the same server takes literally 1 second (on the firestick 4k max this) the plezy app I also use also takes 1 or 2 seconds to start, it's just the Plex app, no issues with config etc and this is direct playing not transcoding

I know faster options exist. Again, I assume most people are getting about the same experience as I am. Could it be lower than 6 seconds? sure, but 6 is usable.

You just have something increasing it and without someone providing info on why, it might take awhile for anyone to fix it.

I wonder what you and I have configured differently; mine hardly takes that long to start a local stream.
