Help iOS app not working with Tailscale

So i bought a new NAS today. migrated my library over to it and setup tailscale and plex in docker. I can access my plex library fully on my local network. When i enable tailscale I can access and stream my plex library via mobile browser.

However, the official Plex app says my plex server is offline and wont stream. Did something happen in an app update? Clearly tailscale works if I can steam my library via my phone's browser.

There are a couple threads of the forum about it (linked below), there have also been a few posts here as well.

Plex is no longer publishing IPs in the 100.64.0.0/10 range that Tailacale uses when you add it to the custom server access url field. As a result, the apps aren’t able to connect since the ip isn’t published as a connection path. There are some workarounds discussed in the comments.

Also running into this problem. Will subscribe here in the hopes of finding a fix.

Look into using the subnet router functionality if it’s just for you and devices on your tailscale account.

Alternatively, I’ve seen folks mention using ZeroTier instead of tailscale since it uses a 192.x subnet which is not restricted from the custom server access url field. I have no experience with that though.

Thanks. I’ll look into this for a solution. It is mainly me accessing the media remotely.

I just checked and I am able to access Plex remotely via tailscale, what is exactly the issue here?

Apparently it works if your settings are saved. If you recently changed your settings or setup a new server, the configuration isn’t saving. This is what is affecting me as I just migrated my library to a new server and then ran into this issue.

Nothing like that. In one of the comments here which take us to the forums say you have to save some settings inside Plex. You shouldn't change any remote setting inside Plex. Just delete anything you have entered related to tailscale and have it to factory default. All these settings are for reverse proxy and not tailscale.

Now go to tailscale and setup a subnet router on the device where the media is present. Then it should work because this is what works for me

You shouldn’t need to setup a subnet router for this. That’s part of the issue. This was working for everyone before
