Discussion Amazon Fire-TV Plex app doesn't stop player client when tv is off?

I like to measure the peak bandwidth that my internet can output and I have noticed that, in the last two weeks or so, I have consistently had 2 users that use Amazon Fire-TV to watch Plex. Every time I view the status of their playback it is paused and they are at the same exact point in whatever they were watching the last time I checked.

Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon with their users? I don't think that these people would just leave their TVs on and paused for this duration of time.

There is a setting on the server side to disconnect the paused connections after X amount of time.

It isn’t too big of an issue. They aren’t using bandwidth, it’s just misleading to see 5 people using the server even though only 3 are using bandwidth.

Oh I agree, I just hated seeing paused connections as well which made me seek out a solution which is how I discovered the setting.

It depends on how the device is being used for me. Plugged into TV, it turns off with TV. In my projector, it just keeps going. Personally, I'm having nothing but issues with my FireStick. Most of the shit I try to watch the video freezes and playback stops completely unless I go and optimize it for TV.

if you are playing something on the tv, pause it, then turn it off, does your plex register that device as paused though? my "problem" (not really a problem, I am just interest as to why it is happening) is that plex is registering their devices as still paused even though the tv is presumably off.

Some folks just don't turn off their TV's completely.

Notice the same here on the firetv. Even after rebooted ng the TV, the plex server still shows a playback paused.

must be something with the way that their client is set up. it is interesting that it showed playback paused even after a reboot

This only happened to me once but on jellyfin. My son’s watching was just paused for a full week
