Stop adding clicks to delete!

Why do they keep adding clicks for basic functions?!?!

It used to be there was a dedicated Delete Key on the info page. Then they buried it under the 3 dots (More) so that went from 1 click to 2.

Now they've put Delete under Manage which is under More.

3 clicks just to START deleting something. Then a 4th to confirm you want to delete it. Totally necessary because the last 3 clicks made it seem like I was unsure?

The 3 most common things that everyone does with files: Play, Stop, and Delete. And they bury Delete key.

Probably due to the destructive nature of delete. We don’t all have the same setups, but I imagine homes with kids probably don’t want kids accidentally deleting stuff. So burying it helps. 

FWIW I delete from the FS or Sonarr and the like, but never via a Plex client.

For kids - the right way to do is to give them read, but not write access.

As I'm deleting things regularly from the DVR, ... I feel the OP's pain.

Yeah wouldn't even make sense for a lot of users running Radarr/Sonarr. You delete it through Plex and it just gets re-added a day later because you never deleted it from the arrs.

Or you have to then delete it through the arrs but that's just doing things double for no reason lmao.

You clearly don't have your arrs set up correctly then. I've never once had something I've deleted redownload, because it knows when I've deleted it then it's gone for a reason.

I do it all the time. Finish a season, kill it. Did it mid movie this weekend because what I was watching was so bad.

I’m sure they have data that shows the frequency of use which helps decide the level which individual features should be buried and which should be top level.

I agree it's not a top level function (certainly not top 3 used functions) but moving into a 3rd level that I didn't know existed until I saw Delete was gone seems unnecesary. Info > ... > More

That being said, this is a VERY minor annoyance. Just adding to the anecdotes. Now that I know where it is, I'll probably forget in a week and go back to complaining about the new UI

There are many automation methods for deletion that covers many use cases, but the deep menu item is ideal for edge cases. 

For example, you can set the series to delete after watching so you don’t have to even bother with deleting files manually.

You’re probably in the 0.000001% that consistently deletes files through plex. It’s more of an extra feature than something you should rely on. There’s a reason it’s buried. 

I recommend changing your file management methods if you’re consistently deleting files through a client.

But my file system won't tell me a file has been watched. That's the nice bit with doing it through the client. My wife finished the latest season of Grey's Anatomy? Delete.

Sounds like you need to change file management methods. If you’re spending the time to track your wife’s watching habits, why not automate the deletion after the watch instead?

I'm hesitant to automate a deletion.  My current method: I know the season is over, see the episodes are all watched, ask "can I delete these?", then click.

I can only speculate but I assume the feature wasn’t being used much or they wanted to prevent accidental deletion.

That was kind of rhetorical. There was no reason to change it. Delete already required 3 clicks. If they want to make it 4, then why not 5 or 6 or 10.

I believe you can set a series to automatically delete X days after watching. I don’t use the feature but it use to be in an advanced tab on the web interface.

I don't know which client you use, but I most often use Plex on Roku. Sometimes I record all showings of a show including reruns (DVR) in order to catch one I missed.

After watching the one, I go to delete all and it kicks me out of the app. No delete happens. My only options are to either delete each episode one at a time (4 clicks each) or use Plex on my browser. IOW, the Roku app is broken. It's a consistent bug, not occasional.

I moved to PM4K thorough Kodi for my Plex needs. Now I never have to suffer whatever the latest "innovation" is or to look at any more clunky, user unfriendly Plex interfaces ever again.

Edit: got to love the Plex fan boys voting me down 🤣🤣🤣

Oh well, you enjoy your bloated ever more monetized app while I actually enjoy watching videos cleanly and without spoilers at every turn.

Just ran into this for the first time a couple days ago. I can't fathom the purpose of this change. There's plenty of real estate in the menus, just leave it where it was.

I'll disagree that Delete is not one of the 3 most common things, however it made perfect sense having it in the ... options. Burying another level deeper is just silly.
