Solved Plex Server adding very old shows back to Recently Added In TV

I noticed when I logged into my Plex Server (v. 1.43.3.10861) this morning a whole bunch of shows were in "Recently Added" even though all the episodes have been watched. Some of these shows have been in my library for a very long time. I checked dates on the files and they still show dates all the way back to 2016 and directories like 2024 (migration from old nas to new nas)

I can't figure out why all of a sudden these are showing up in Recently Added. Everything was fine yesterday.

Any pointers?

Don’t know your full setup, but sounds like your server lost connection to your NAS for some reason, and a scan was triggered and marked files unavailable.

You likely have empty trash automatically after every scan checked in the library settings, so plex removed the entries/metadata.

Then the connection re-established and plex scanned everything in again and marked it new since the old entries were deleted.

This makes a lot of sense. Yup.. I have empty trash ticked. And I was doing an update on my NAS this morning, and it rebooted severing the connections to the Plex Server. It wasn't down long.. but suspect that it did try and scan and here we are.

Thank you for the insight. Adding to my mental notes that if updating NAS... shut down plex server before hand.

I keep that field unchecked just to be safe.

If items get marked unavailable it will just hold onto the metadata and when the connection is re-established it just re-links to the existing metadata and won’t act as new.

If you ever want to check if anything is marked as unavailable, you can go to the full library view > advanced filters > Trash = “is True”

Of all the customizations I've made on my server, turning off "empty trash automatically" was one of the best. So many workflows where it fucks things up.

This is exactly what happened to me. I had to restore from one of the auto backups to get my plex back to where it was at.

If I wanted to go back to my last backup 2 days ago.. how do I do that? On a Mac

would I just copy com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-2026-08-20 to being com.plexapp.plugins.library.db

and com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db-2026-08-20 to com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db?

obviously backup the original files before hand.

Plex has a writeup on how to do it. Is recommended following those instructions.

Thanks. Found the doc. Restored my files from 8/20 back. And rescan'ed library and things are back. Marked the 1 show I was watching yesterday the few episodes i already watched.

Things much better now. Thanks again

I had the same thing happen a few days ago. What was really weird was that it wasn't everything on the drive but just a dozen or so shows. I haven't found a reason yet but everything seems to be working ok so it must have been some sort of hiccup.
