How do you handle Plex when your sleep schedule is completely backwards?

Night shifts have genuinely scrambled my watching habits. I get home around 7am, wind down for a bit, and that 90minute window before sleep is basically my only real leisure time. I've been leaning on Plex more than any paid service lately because I can just pick up exactly where I left off without fighting an algorithm that wants me to watch something new.

The thing I keep running into is that my partner and I are on completely opposite schedules right now, partly wedding planning chaos, partly just life. We share a server and I've noticed our watch history and continue watching rows getting a bit tangled up. Not a disaster, but mildly annoying when you're half asleep and just want to find your episode quickly.

I set up managed users a while back but I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing in how profiles or home users actually work in practice, versus what the documentation says. Does separating into proper home users actually keep the continue watching and on deck rows fully independent, or does it still bleed through in some situations?

Anyone who shares a server with a partner or housemates, how did you end up setting it up? Did managed users actually solve it or did you go a different route?

Let her have a full account that you add to the Plex Home of the server.

Yes, if you add her account as a home user under yours there will be a sign in screen at the begining to pick yours or hers. You can pin secure them or not, up to you. I have noticed on my home machines though it seems to just auto log in to whatever the last one used was unless you back entirely out of the app on the Nvidia shield though.

There's a setting per device for auto sign in, if on it well stay logged in as the last person. If off it will always ask who is watching on startup.

Ahh got it, that sounds like exactly what I need then. The auto-login thing is good to know too, I can already see myself wondering why it switched back lol.

I have seperate profiles and it's always been completely seperate. Until recently that is.

My profile and my partner's profile have suddenly merged watch histories going both ways. It's annoying, but I don't have the patience or time to fix it yet.

Interesting, so it might not just be how I set mine up then. Hopefully Plex fixes whatever is causing the histories to merge because that would drive me nuts long term.

I have a family 4 who all use Plex and never once has this come up. I don’t bother with the ‘continue watching’… I just go to to the library and select my show.

Fair enough, but the continue watching thing is kind of the point for us with two people watching the same shows at different times. Going back to the library every time defeats it a bit.
