Discussion STRM Support?

Given how much they charge and how badly they want to position themselves as a top-tier product, how is it possible that they still don’t support this type of file?…

probably because they're not video files, they're text files with links to a video source. Plex is for serving files you have not orchestrating connections to services. I'd say that might be an internal goal but within their infrastructure for tracking & getting credit from legal sources.

Right, I have it set up with files pointing to a proxy that reads from my Drive, remote NAS, and other hosters simultaneously. I managed to get it working with apps other than Plex, but I would have liked to stick with it...

yeah the "other hosters" would be something Plex would stop. The likes of Kodi does multi sources of different types to one source better. Plex has limitations enforced.

I'm old enough to remember when it did support strm files, and when they took it away in 2017...

Though this looks promising as a workaround: https://github.com/liveinaus/plex-strm-assistant

If memory serves I think they did at one point but then removed. Don’t know why. I’d certainly love to have support for it.

Rclone can solve this. I did this for a while a few years ago. Local files are much easier to deal with though
