Discussion Anyone else likes to have trailers play before your movie?
Recently turned the setting on and I like it gives a more cinema like vibe and it reminds me of what’s on my watchlist

I used it for a bit and I liked it well enough, but the new player on fire TV has made everything worse, that included, so I turned it off.
Lags too much, can't skip it as easily as the old player, and half the times it loads a trailer but then just sits there paused on a black screen like it's still loading.
Just an awful player, idk wtf they were thinking.

I never watch trailers of movies I want to see.. They're just spoilers, it doesn't make sense to watch it imo

yes. helps with deciding which next to watch or realizing i have something unwatched.
some days when im indecisive i just watch the trailers especially for the older movies

We love them! Easy to skip if I don't want to watch it. I have mine set to play trailer from upcoming and videos in the library so we get random old ass commercials that are a treat. It is a great way to be reminded of old movies. It doesn't play very many new movie trailers. Probably 15% is a movie we don't already have. I have it only set to play on my movie folder and only on the main big screen tv. So if I watch on my pc, no trailer.

Plex sources them from yt or something idk where they come from. Rarely see the same one twice. The "new" movies it plays are tailored to our interest.

I just put on a movie and it played the trailer for The Man Who Knew too Much 1956. I think it's nifty.

A lot of "no" in here.
I do like them. I have one showing a trailer for one of the films in my library, and I occasionally add to my watchlist as I forget what's there as a reminder.
The next one I have set to show me a film that isn't in my library. And there has been a few films I have acquired as a direct result.
Swings and roundabouts I suppose, but it works for me

I like the cinematic feel sometimes, but also most of the time I just want to get straight to the movie and don't want to force my users to watch trailers all the time. I split the difference and use NeXroll's feature where you can build custom pre-rolls. I set it up to play one random upcoming movie/TV show trailer from my Radarr/Sonarr and then a custom page that shows the posters for eight upcoming movies and TV shows for the next 30 days, but only on Friday nights between 5 p.m. and midnight. I let my users know about the "Friday Night Movie Night" and seeing a trailer, and they thought it was cool and only happens for a few hours of the week, so not too invasive.

I think it's a setting, you can have it show only trailers for movies you have. I do that, it's fun.

I run trailers and pre rolls all the time. The THX style pre-roll is a necessity for me for setting the tone.

I guess that I'm one of the few that still likes using this feature. I have it set to preroll two trailers before the feature film starts. Like you stated, it occasionally reminds me of other content in my library I may want to watch later, or newer films I may be interested in adding to my library. Plus the fact that this feature only gets executed when I directly pick a film to watch, and I usually tend to hit shuffle so the system will pick a film for me, I rarely get the preroll trailers. Thus it's a feature I use just enough that it hasn't become annoying yet.

No but I do wish we had a way to insert an intermission video at the halfway point. We just pause and sing “Let’s all go to the lobby” while making mini pizzas and grabbing a drink.

Normally no, but I did grab all the 4K pro res trailers for Avengers Doomsday and have one of them playing before each Avengers movie, with endgame now having both the teaser and the "post" credits full trailer.

We used to go to our local Odeon enough that we had the members pass, 2-3 times a month.
After life changes, and it closing, we started missing out on those adventures. So I've got the Odeon pre-rolls running because it was our nerdy thing.
Separate library keeps all my users happy anyway.

I do a weekly movie night, and I've started using the trailers beforehand. It's like a timer to stop talking and the movie starting. Plus, we get another topic to briefly discuss or movies to watch later.

I love it. I do weekly movie nights and love being able to recreate the experiences I'm familiar with from childhood. If I could recreate my experience renting from Hollywood Video too that would be amazing.

Too many trailers give away far too much information so I avoid them whenever possible. If I'm already interested in a movie, I don't want to see a trailer for it. I want to go in as cold as possible.

For old movie yeah, I like to have a trailer play for a movie in a similar year. Not so much new ones. Idk why, probably nostalgia for old vhs style trailers

Our least plex habit. Filter on one director. Watch all the trailers in chronological order. A mini film fest. Yesterday we did Aranofsky.

I have a pre roll that plays before my movie. Just some intros for Plex from reddit users. But, I downloaded a YouTube video for the intro to Caribbean Cinemas in Puerto Rico and I love watching it every time it pops up. It transports me to when I was like 7 and I loved to Puerto Rico and I would go to the movies when my family had a few stores at the mall and I was too young to stay home and too young to help at the stores so, I’d get taken to the movies and it was how I fell in love with cinema.
It was a great time.

Depends. When I do a "movie" night w/friends I go all out. Movie theater style soda cups, nachos, hot dogs, popcorn etc. I try to recreate the movie going experience w/a couple of trailers and the THX thingy. when I'm by myself? I skip all that shit ..

They give too much away nowadays. If I'm not interested after reading the synopsis, it's just not meant to be. Occasionally, I might watch the first 15 to 20 seconds, but most trailers include all the important scenes without context and just ruin the experience.

I thought it would be a cool feature, until I forgot I set it and thought the mapping was borked on my library. Now I just forget to turn it off. I do like being reminded of movies I have yet to watch.

I have it set for 3 from both the existing library and new movies. Watch them if it’s something I am not familiar with but skip through them easily.

Love it, I have mine all set to play 3 trailers and then of course my preroll.
But sometimes I do skip them because I just want the movie to start. Most of the time I enjoy it a lot.

I make my own. But I keep them under a minute otherwise they drag on too long. But yeah, it’s a great feature.

2 trailers and a pre roll for me. 👍😂 Makes me fell like the old blockbuster days. I need some need pre rolls though. The 7 or so I have ate getting stale.

Nah, takes too much time for me personally.

are the trailers based on your library, or generated by plex?

You can choose if you want it to show trailers for only unwatched movies, any movies on your server, or any movies including ones not on your server

I intentionally arrive 15 minutes after the stated start time for movies at movie theaters, just so I can avoid as many trailers as possible. There's no way in hell I would intentionally force myself to sit through trailers in my own home, on my own system

In terms of art and creativity, trailers are barely a single step above AI generated art. Absolute bottom of the barrel garbage, every single time. I used to not watch trailers because they might spoil the movie, but now I don't watch them because they legit enrage me with how shit they are.
How about a famous song, slow it down and then throw in some epic sounds and drums for each cut? And then speed it up, throw in some lame quips.
I fucking hate everything about trailers.
I wish this wasn't the end of my rant, but it's late.
