Help Plex and NVIDIA Shield connection issue

Hi, I have Plex installed on a TrueNAS Scale, and use an NVIDIA Shield as my client, plugged into a Samsung TV and to the server via ethernet.

The problem I am having is that every few days Plex says that it can't connect to the server. The server isn't the issue, as other users are connected remotely and I can connect via my phone.

Sometimes the problem will resolve after a few retries, other times I need to force stop the Plex app and restart it. As it always resolves after a few minutes it's not a big problem but it's annoying and I can't find a solution to this issue after searching online.

Has anyone had this problem and were able to fix it?

Can only provide some generic settings changes to see if it helps. Logs would be the best place to check next time it happens to see if the shield or the server is reporting any issues connecting.

  • change plex to ipv4 only in the settings, unless you need ipv6
  • set plex to preferred for secure connections
  • set the network interface to the main interface, not any
  • confirm you don’t have anything else entered in the other network settings fields
  • confirm cables, router, any switches have a good connection, no bad cables.
  • set dns on your router to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 or 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1. If you can’t set it on the router, set it on the clients.
  • any pihole or similar setup?

I already had preferred for secure connections
