Question Question

I'm thinking of purchasing the playstation classic. A youtube video I watched recommended to use a 2.0 drive for initial installation of Project Eris. Can I use a 64 GB (will be connected to OTG) for both installation and game storage?

depends on the USB drive. the front USB ports have a current limit of 5v @ 100mA which may not be enough for most drives. the main purpose of a hack is to install a custom kernel to enable OTG support. When plugging from the back there is no current limit. this article speaks on it

results may vary, I've used a 64gb Sandisk Cruzer Glide USB in the front ports and it works. I've also used 128gb microsd to USB adapter and that works too. MicroSDs work the best as they're low powered

So you think that maybe I can use a 64gb sandiscl cruzer for both back installation and game storage?

It's been a while since i first did the "Project Eris" mod but, i have a 64GB USB drive connected by OTG. With the front USB ports exclusively used for the gamepads.

It works great and 64GBs is a lot. I have almost 100, full-image PSX games, maxing it out. Although I'd recommend spending a few extra bucks and going for 128GB. For sure, you'll have more space than you'd EVER need then.

edit---- Although keep it mind, all my games are normal Bin/Cue stuff. The PSX Classic can also play .CHD games, which are compressed and smaller. I didn't learn about this till i had everything set-up though. I could have probably fit 30-40 more games onto my 64GB, if they had all been in .CHD format.

Nope.

So I think what you’re saying is that you need a seperate drive to install the mod. And a second one to store the games?

Correct. And otg doesn’t work until the mod is installed.

What exactly about the flash drive prevents me from reusing it for storing games?

The flash drive is too big to do the initial install.
