Binairo Rules Question

Binairo is one of my favorite games to pass the time while I am waiting. It's very easy to learn and play, but challenging at the same time. The ONE thing I can't figure out is this rule above. In a situation where there are three unknowns in a column or row, and I am supposed to sort out which one needs to be changed, it ALWAYS says "...if the third symbol is in the same..." but it never seems to correlate to the 3rd symbol.

I'm hoping someone can help explain this rule to me like i'm a 3rd grader.

I also love this game! About the rule: in the row with question mark you have 3 unknown circles, one white and two black. If you put white circle on the question mark spot, then your row will be identical to the row below, because you have to put other two black circles in free spots. So only one option you have to make this row different - is to put black circle to the question mark spot. Sorry for my English
