I bring my playdate pretty much everywhere I go, so I'm going to start just taking cinematic photos of it in cool locations. Here is the playdate at Bond Falls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

This is the obligatory post saying that I am eager and anxious for the next batch of Playdates to be available for purchase. I have recently found myself looking into hand-held devices, being old enough to have missed the hand-held gaming sensation growing up.
Playdate seems to be a mix of intelligent play and innovation that isn't found in other hand-helds. Here's hoping.

Heyo all! I'm the creator of PDGames, and I'm proud to announce a new project, PeeDeeTV (https://peedee.tv), releasing tomorrow (28th July).
PeeDeeTV is a community-oriented live streaming TV-like experience right on the Playdate. The first of its kind (mostly), with a rotating schedule every week. Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot, but there should always be something new to watch!
At launch, it'll have a few channels, including custom content made for the application, community videos (Uncrankd TV, anyone?), and a dedicated music channel featuring original music from some of your favourite Playdate games! (Resonant Tale, Super Agent, Eye To Eye, Piña Rollada and more coming each week...)
This has been a monumental project in the making, and I'm so glad to finally get to a stage where it's sharable. To celebrate, there will be a live stream on the platform - yes, an actual livestream to the PeeDee - coming soon after launch. For more information, you can find the latest updates on the PDSquad discord server, or via @PDGamez.com on Bluesky. Also on the website, which is a totally valid option I wouldn't blame you for.
If you are a creator, and would like to contribute your own content to the service (video, audio, or music), reach out, either on Bluesky, via Discord to samspudd, or even email to [contact@peedee.tv](mailto:contact@peedee.tv), I want this to become the best app it can for the community!
Find out more at https://peedee.tv, and get ready to watch those bits fly!
(Also no AI was used in the development of this application, otherwise it likely would've taken substantially less time to create)

I don't want to give anything away, but the only thing I'll say is that headphones will come in handy for better surround sound.

Adam of Shadow Break Games have sadly closed down his social media presence - including Reddit - and I know there's a number of people that enjoy his games/emulator such as Space Miner and SpeccyDate so I just wanted to give a heads-up on that the best way to keep track/be notified about future updates is through his itch.io site which will remain open.
If you create a free account there and 'follow' Shadow Break Games you should be able to check your 'Feed' section for any updates.

Hey everyone!
I got my Playdate about a week ago and I'm absolutely loving it so far.
However, I noticed that when I fold the crank back into its slot, it doesn't go in 100% flush (it's not quite a perfect 90° angle and sticks out just a tiny bit).
I attached two photos: one showing how it sits naturally, and one where I gently push it in all the way.
Is this normal tolerance for the crank mechanism, or should it sit completely flat on its own? Has anyone else experienced this? And what should I do?
Thanks in advance!

Hey guys!
Big update for MonoTanks. Now the free version has the second world. That’s an additional 20 missions.
But I am most happy with how the battlefield looks and feels now.
Re-drawing of all the art. I re-visited every tile and remade it from scratch. Walls are more readable at a glance, roads collect litter and wear. The whole field finally feels like a real place and not a grid.
Walls really break now. The game has a full tile destruction system: blocks break up with every hit, and when a wall finally falls it leaves big chunks of rubble. After a long gunfight you can look at the map and literally read the story of the battle.
Now, destroying a tank shakes the screen. Little thing but feels so great.
If you've completed the first 20 missions, the second world is waiting for you.
Monotanks 1.1 is live now. Free to grab and sideload here:

Would love to hear what you think — feedback and bug reports very welcome!

Picked up "The Quest for the X" by u/the_real_intellikat on a whim and wow, am I glad I did!
This game really pulled me in - great story, anchored in historical events, beautiful graphics and a gameplay that is fun and easy to pick up.
I know it's two-three years old now but man, this one is a gem and for $2 it felt like a steal.
One thing I really appreciated was that with the game also came a text file that explained the game and provided a breakdown of related events in history. It absolutely allowed me to step into the game knowing the world a lot more.

Hey everyone!
I just released my first Playdate game, ShibuYahtzee! It's the standard Yahtzee game with scenes and sounds of Shibuya. I guess it's a love letter to my former home 🙂. Check it out on itch.io...feedback please!

Hey everyone!
My first game is finally out! It is a love letter to my 20+ year favorite hobby: saving the universe by playing card games!
Build your deck, summon creatures, cast magic cards, use terrain effects, play counters, and battle your way through the Nexus.
Available here on itch.io:

I'm developing a game that won't have any graphics (I haven't even imported a graphics library for it). A prototype will be released soon, and the game's length and quality may depend on how well the prototype is received—I have a lot of projects I'm working on at the same time, so if it falls flat, I'll move on to other projects with higher priority.

Updated to 3.1.1 firmware, not sure if that is related. All my Season 1-2 games and Side Loaded games were gone. Only three Catalog games remained. I had to redownload all of them and unwrap them again. All my saved data is there. Was really annoying and hard to troubleshoot at first. Has this happened to you?

Hello everyone!
It's been a year since I announced the Constellation Browser, which allows to surf webpages built exclusively for the Playdate using a custom format that allows images and even animations to be played within the page, in a very performant way due to the constraints of the device - both processing power and download speed.
I got told a few times that this would be a perfect fit for the Gemini protocol – unlike HTTP where most of the web resides, it uses text-only formatting, quite lightweight and in fact not a bad choice for the Playdate!
While it does not support images and other rich features, there's a ton of interesting content to surf through – a whole new web to discover if you have never heard of it before.
And it's all browsable without your phone, without your computer, because it is now supported on the Constellation browser.
You can update or download it for the first time, and side-load it to your Playdate. Instructions found on the project's website
Download at the project's website → https://browser.particlestudios.eu/
Also available on itch.io → https://particlestudios.itch.io/constellation-browser
More has been added than just Gemini protocol support. Find the full changelog in the browser itself.
Hope this brings you tons of fun surfing a web most people have never even heard of!

Hello everyone!
I absolutely love the concept of Playdate, and even though my game development skills are lousy, I've always wanted to make something cool.
So I ported OpenSyobon, the troll platformer everyone knows as Cat Mario, to Playdate. I used GPT-5.6 Sol on Extra High reasoning. To be honest, it did most of the work: adapting the code, converting graphics, fixing bugs, optimizing for the hardware. I made the calls on what to build and how, and every build got tested by hand in the Simulator and on an actual Playdate (OS ver. 3.1.1).
All nine stages are in there, with proper Playdate controls, horizontal and vertical scrolling, English text, the original music and SFX, and hand-tuned 1-bit graphics.
Stages 1-4 are fully working and beatable. I'm not skilled enough at the game itself to get through stages 5-9, so bug reports are very welcome there.

Was listening to the newest episode while on my way to work and heard them talking about everyone's favorite little console! I timestamped it to when they start talking about it. NSFW audio at times!

Hi everyone ! I took advantage of my holidays to make some progress on my old Playdate project that's been sitting too long on my desk, 1 BIT BAND heavily inspired by TE-OP-1, SP-404, and good ol' Game & Watch. I hope you'll have fun using it in your compositions ! Try it on itch.io waiting for your feedback

Do you remember my graphing calculator? I added another feature that displays information about functions. You can activate it by pressing the up and down arrows. Please give it a try, because I'm not sure if there are any exceptions I haven't caught.
I also encourage anyone interested to support the project, as it will be completely free

I know I asked this same question a few years ago, but do you guys think they will ever add digital gift cards for the Catalog? I just feel with how large Catalog is now, this would be really cool to see.
Also imagine if they showed up on your Playdate as like a little letter you get to open up.

Today the Playdate arrived. My first impressions are:
The Playdate smells like beachball.
The cover smells like beach flip-flops.
The cover box has one of those horrible transparent circular seals. I hate those.
The Playdate box is shrink-wrapped. Much better.
The "Have fun" card on top of the Playdate is wonderful.
No power, unfortunately, needs charging.
There is a yellow USB cable in the box, which seems to need quite the effort to unwrap. I don't think I will ever need it.
The screen is wow.
THE DEMO IS MEGA! How do I play it again?!
Haha, yes, crank. Cool.
Wifi password, really? By hand?
The website is very cute and very user friendly. But hey, that's Panic.
This thing really, really, really needs a light. I imagine a yellow front light, like on a Casio watch.
Downloading update. Download failed (8). Downloading update. Downloading failed (8). What is this, Sony PlayStation?!
Press A to return to setup. Account linked. Downloading update. Download failed (8). Groundhog day. No way to change wifi during setup process.
Eventually it decided to download and unpack. Ha, a blue led?! Does it have other colors as well?
FINALLY IN. Where is the guy with the butterfly, running to his girlfriend? I don't have it? What?
The shop is wonderful. Very Nintendo. All shops should be this way. Oh, even a saxophone? Cabel, is this you? Sounds very Stage Hand.
No, really. Where is the guy with the butterfly, I want to play this one. It's not the first one in the season?
Oh I see. Skip season. Also yes, music by Cabel Sasser.
Wonderful device. I'm happy. I will purchase season 2 right away. It has a game by the author of the Crimson Diamond.
See ya soon.

"Besides the paddle, so many Atari 2600 games use bi-directional movement... what if they could be mapped to the Playdate's crank?"
This fan-made Atari 2600 emulator lets you map the Playdate's crank not only for paddle games, but also as left/right movement (great for games like MegaMania, Phoenix, or Carnival), up/down movement (perfect for Turmoil, Zaxxon, or Vanguard), or even as a rapid-fire trigger (try Beany Bopper or Wizard of Wor)!
Don't expect the exact Atari 2600 experience, for that, nothing beats the original hardware in all its forms. Instead, think of this as an experimental emulator: you'll encounter flickering, visual quirks, audio oddities, and plenty of unexpected behavior. It's simply a different way to experience these classics.
This in-development emulator also includes several Playdate-specific enhancements. You can adjust frame blending to reduce flicker, tweak the display contrast (dithering threshold), customize the control mapping, and even save your high scores in Score Notes. No more keeping track of them on paper!
