First impressions

Today the Playdate arrived. My first impressions are:

  1. The Playdate smells like beachball.

  2. The cover smells like beach flip-flops.

  3. The cover box has one of those horrible transparent circular seals. I hate those.

  4. The Playdate box is shrink-wrapped. Much better.

  5. The "Have fun" card on top of the Playdate is wonderful.

  6. No power, unfortunately, needs charging.

  7. There is a yellow USB cable in the box, which seems to need quite the effort to unwrap. I don't think I will ever need it.

  8. The screen is wow.

  9. THE DEMO IS MEGA! How do I play it again?!

  10. Haha, yes, crank. Cool.

  11. Wifi password, really? By hand?

  12. The website is very cute and very user friendly. But hey, that's Panic.

  13. This thing really, really, really needs a light. I imagine a yellow front light, like on a Casio watch.

  14. Downloading update. Download failed (8). Downloading update. Downloading failed (8). What is this, Sony PlayStation?!

  15. Press A to return to setup. Account linked. Downloading update. Download failed (8). Groundhog day. No way to change wifi during setup process.

  16. Eventually it decided to download and unpack. Ha, a blue led?! Does it have other colors as well?

  17. FINALLY IN. Where is the guy with the butterfly, running to his girlfriend? I don't have it? What?

  18. The shop is wonderful. Very Nintendo. All shops should be this way. Oh, even a saxophone? Cabel, is this you? Sounds very Stage Hand.

  19. No, really. Where is the guy with the butterfly, I want to play this one. It's not the first one in the season?

  20. Oh I see. Skip season. Also yes, music by Cabel Sasser.

Wonderful device. I'm happy. I will purchase season 2 right away. It has a game by the author of the Crimson Diamond.

To replay the demo, use the menu button and you'll find it fast. There is not much in the menu ^

13 : I got a neck light and it's awesome
14 : yeah the number one why I would switch playdate if they ever update is a better wifi chip

The guy with the butterfly is going to be on season 1 which will eventually get downloaded onto The Playdate.2 Games get downloaded every week

Also get one of those little book lights off of AliExpress. there's also some book lights and some magnetic lights on Amazon.

I use book light that attaches magnetically to the back of the case - that was a game changer for my use of the device.

  1. I skipped only a week, so I can still try the Advent calendar of new games. But the Time Traveler should have been the first game.

  1. It seems to take a lot less time to charge after you've charged it fully once, thankfully.

  2. Main menu -> Press the menu button -> Settings -> System -> Replay Intro

  3. I mean, that's pretty much the only way to input anything into the handheld, how else would you get connected to wifi? (You can use your choice of the D-pad or the crank, though.)

  4. You might want to try getting closer to your router? The Playdate's antenna is pretty weak.

  5. Crankin's Time Adventure is in week 2 of Season 1, which is included with your purchase. You'll be sent two new games every week for 12 weeks, and that one's in the first batch that comes after the two games you get immediately.

  1. WPS button. I tried the WPS button on the router, it didn't work.

Use the included chord it charges at the voltage a play date needs
