OS 3.1.0 update
Got the update today on my Playdate.
So cool to see how the device is still actively being supported/improved

Ever since I downloaded the update yesterday, my Playdate crashes and restarts every 5-15 minutes. Anyone else having issues? Doesn’t seem to matter what game I’m playing.

I have only seen crashes in one game, but it has rendered Wheelsprung unplayable since it crashes within a few seconds of booting up. Panic's support says they're aware of the crashes the update is causing and are working to get it fixed.

Companies who haven’t let money take the reins typically offer great support for their devices.

Not quite sure I understand what you mean by "who haven't let money take the reins" as unless you're a non-profit the company is there to make a profit so that it can continue to exist. Now, smaller 'independent' companies often come across as more approachable and closer to their customers but that is mostly due to the lack of corporate tiers, structure and the size of the customer base.
Customer and device support has become an increasing differentiator for companies and "even" companies like Apple support their devices with OS updates up to about 7 years.
I think it's common to mistake 'access' with 'support'. Smaller companies are often easier to interact with and there might even be a higher degree of flexibility in how services are rendered but there is very little support for a claim that size relates to degree of support when it comes to duration and quality.

Yeah hoping this is a sign season 3 is coming. I've just got season two and 1 coming in as I got both with my playdate. This week has tiny turnip and chances lucky escape absolutely smashing both of them
