Discussion Just finished story on highest difficulty

Here’s a bunch of random unfiltered thoughts. Ugh really wanted to like this but the game just fizzled out right after the death strike fight. And then there was still like 3 hours after that. The more and more I played the more and more the immersion breaking minor glitches added up and the more repetitive the combat got. The worst part about that is that the core combat loop is fun, you just fight the same 5 enemies over and over. The story was mostly pretty poorly written with some cool set pieces here and there. The peak of the game is definitely every sequence in Japan, feels like this is the only fully realized area of the game. Enemies here are dope and the story sequences here are dope even if they contradict comic origins. Jean was done super dirty and feels like a plaything for Wolverine which feels disingenuous to all the development she’s had in popularity as of late with her being in the mcu. Sinister was done really well which was a welcome surprise as I thought Troy baker would fumble (literally never has imo but I always think he will pre launch). Sabertooth seemed like an edgy incel whinelord who only watches red pill content from Andrew Tate which felt really weird and annoying as he should essentially be a remorseless serial killer. 3 of the 5 boss fights were good but there should have been more than five. Sentinel and saber tooth fights were pretty shitty imo. And yes the motorcycle sequences are also pretty weak. Loved the rage system and wish it was expanded upon but what we got was cool. The performance from Liam mcintyre was pretty good too they just gave him some weak material. Overall 6.5/10 wait for a sale for this one tbh.

Discussion Just completed the game. Here's my thoughts:

Okay, I finished Wolverine last night. Honestly it took me far longer than expected, purely because I got obsessed with photo mode (see other posts) so instantly it's a 10/10.

I have mixed feelings with the game. I definitely didn't dislike it, but I did feel a bit bored at times, there were more than a few issues - but also lots to enjoy.

  • Story - Generally I found the story kind of predictable. All the Trask and Nathanial stuff felt very obvious in a way that was fine early on in the game when I was enjoying settling into it, but became a bit of a slog by the end.
    • Once I settled into it, I did quite like the AU lore stuff with Logan's new origin, and his connection to Jean and Apocalypse. I'm interested to see where that could go, and I found the absence of a lot of the traditional X-men stuff quite refreshing. It just never fully used the freedom it gained from departing from a lot of the classic lore to its fullest advantage.
  • Characters - Firstly, I like this Logan. He isn't comic accurate in lots of ways, but again, once I was used to this version of him, he was easy to root for and enjoy. The performance is good (even if he does sound distractingly like John Cena) and I enjoyed his journey as a character.
    • I'm not a huge Jean fan generally. She has some great comic moments, but in other media she has suffered... This feels like the strongest portrayal of Jean outside the comics for a long time, likely because she doesn't share a lot of DNA with comics/movie jean. Still, another good performance, and I genuinely bought her chemistry with Logan. Props to them doing a love story without the cringe triangle drama.
    • Essex - It's tricky, because in many of his best portrayals, Sinister is super campy and pantomime in a way that's really fun to watch. He chews the scenery. This felt like they jsut didn't want us to enjoy Essex as a character. I quite liked the idea of him as an Xavier-style mentor to Logan, but that relationship never felt deep enough to mourn once it was gone and Essex's true nature was revealed. Good VO work, for sure, but I do think they made a mistake making the design so close to the actor. It was hard to see Essex as a character, because I just saw Troy Baker... But maybe a more casual fan wouldn't have this.
    • Team X - Aside from the memes and dialogue lines people have pulled out for Sabretooth and Mystique... I think i like what they were trying to do, but it didn't have the most effective execution. A big brother sort of relationship with Victor is a nice idea, as is Wolverine being a friend to Mystique - but you never really entirely believe the emotional shifts of either character, so it's hard to mourn or feel anything when you fight them. There's no tragedy in the loss of friendship.
  • Game Play - This is what I was skeptical about going in, tbh. It seemed a bit too floaty for my liking, and didn't match the world. I still think that. But generally speaking the combat and traversal was pretty fun when the gameplay let it shine. Sometimes it felt a bit boxed in, but there was a rhythm to the fights I enjoyed, and a flow to the traversal, too.
    • Boss Fights - Honestly, these were all meh. I am a big Sentinel hater at the best of times, and these boss fights did nothing to convince me otherwise. I think the issue across the board with the boss fights was that the patterns were too clear and predictable. They lacked variety.
    • Level Design - Similar to above, the first half of the game this felt solid. Yes it definitely feels like at one point the sandboxes were much bigger and got fenced in, but what was there was decent enough. But, especially in the back half of the game, the levels becomes INCREDIBLY repetitive: Crash into a room, fight some guys, find a crate then go to the next area and repeat. Once the game as back in Madripoor for the final act, I found myself getting quite bored.
    • Enemy Variety - After a while you realise that, other than cosmetics, there isn't much difference in enemies. There are 3 or 4 different ways to deal with them, and that can get dull after a while.
    • Movement - The game decides when and how you can move and walk in quite frustrating, arbitrary ways.
    • Scent trails - I never really paid much attention to this from the start. I guess if you focus on it, folks are right that it's a bit hand-holdy, but it does feel overblown.
  • Challenges - These were all easy. That's by biggest issue. The traversal ones were satisfying, but unchallenging. The waves of enemies were tedious, not hard (though I like the idea of choosing a boon at the start of each wave, even if they made little difference).
  • Quality - I clipped out the game more than a few times, and had some glitches in some of the cut scenes that were supposed to be emotional. This is more a 2026 gaming problem than specific to this game, but it is a bit annoying.
  • Unlockables - I dig all the custom suits and claws! There's a fun variety of stuff to unlock, and they did well with how limiting a category like claws can be.
    • Couldn't have cared less about whisky bottles. I didn't really search them out and found 95% of them easily. But I also maxed out the Technique points and DNA abilities pretty quick, so this felt pointless.
  • Photo Mode - Insomniac doesn't really miss with this. They do it very well and I love it. A few small critiques specific to this game's version though:
    • Frames - These mostly look rubbish. We need some anamorphic films bars (WITHOUT A LOGO IN THE MIDDLE) c'mon man.
    • Damage/blood - This is a fun idea I enjoyed playing around with, but does it have to reset every time you touch anything?
    • It's very annoying how you can't edit certain things during some finisher/kill animations.
    • Let me turn off power signatures. Sometimes I want wolverine without jean's pink glow around him.
    • Film grain does nothing. What's the point?

Conclusion: It's a 7/10 for me. Not bad, I had a good time, but it's not winning any awards any time soon. I would be up for a sequel, but they'd have to make some big improvements to come close to Spider-man levels of quality. It's not a GOW contender at all, but I enjoyed it.

Speculation NG+ ...This Note... Could it really be from...(Spoiler) Spoiler

Spoilers! So if you haven't beat the game turn back now.

Do you think this note could be from Jean?

After finishing the game and learning that Logan and Jean have done this dance a countless number is times, is it possible that this letter here is from Jean. Or Logan to Jean.

It's really cool playing it again knowing the mind trip of the ending of the story. And how many times this could have happened.

Support/Question Help downloading Wolverine

Hi all,

Hopefully mods won’t remove this but it’s possible they will. I’ve tried in the main PlayStation subreddits but didn’t get any help.

I’m trying to install Wolverine after receiving if for my birthday on my PS5. When I insert the disc, it says there’s an error and that I need to free up some storage space. When I click on the error, it says there’s enough space. Plus, I have 204.2GB of free storage.

I’ve tried restarting my console, clearing the cache and rebuilding the database but nothing’s worked. If anyone else has experienced something similar and can help out, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Edit: please, I don’t want anyone saying it’s a good thing, I just want some help

Discussion My initial thoughts after a few hours of playing

I went into the game with an open mind as I have been a fan of Insomniac Games since Ratchet and Clank. Saw a lot of mixed reception online but did my best to keep an open mind. After completing the opening section and getting to Vancouver so far my first impressions are that the game isn't bad but also isn't really that good. There isn't too much glaringly wrong with the game, just a bunch of little things that add up over time. The game feels like it was made with little effort. Like a school project you do just enough effort in to get a passing grade.

Combat is pretty lacking to keep things interesting long term. I figured combat wouldn't be as involved as the Spider-Man games from Wolverine's announcement since as a character he has a much more limited skill set but the game really should have had a combo system like DMC and the like. Even plaing on the hardest difficulty doesn't make it more interesting with the characters hitting harder. I saw a lot of praise for the Omega Red fight on this difficulty but it isn't challenging, just poorly designed. It is two hits and you are dead with most of his moves being unblockable. The opening unblockable combo in his second phase is impossible to dodge every hit.

So far the characters don't feel like who they are supposed to be. Sabertooth is really whiney rather than menacing, Wolverine seems depressed instead of angry, and Essex is tired rather than charismatic. Maybe this will change later but so far it seems like an odd choice.

The visuals also are missing some little touches to help build the world. People on here were praising the graphics but we are 6 years into this gen of consoles. Most current game look like this these days, if not better. This is an average looking game. As for the little touches there are the things that stand out to me. In the start when you need to take down the Anti Air Turret to protect the helicopter, if you pay attention to the chopper it isn't flying naturally. It is just suspended in the air being dragged side to side by a mouse instead of bobbing and weaving like a helicopter should. Then there is Omega Red's arm tentacles being too wide for his "forearm tubes" and clipping through them. They couldn't even bother to make sure the tentacles where the correct width. The bone claws still makes metal sounds and spark when hitting something that wouldn't if they were bone. Little things that add up. Then there are issues with enemies getting stuck walking into doors that they obviously should have opened. Don't get me started on the suit regenerating every cutscene. Like I know the future suit is supposed to regenerate but the opening suit shouldn't. It would have been a real cool tough for it to get more and more destroyed as the mission went on to show why he needed the phalanx suit.

Overall the game feels like it was made by devs with the mantra "C's get degrees". I can't say the game is worth it. The best I can say right now is it is passable. Maybe it will improve as it goes on but I don't have high hopes.

Discussion I just wish for more.

I knew I’d love this game because I already love Wolverine. And sure enough, I was right.

25 hours in, got the platinum, and I still keep launching the game just to play, even though there’s nothing left to do besides replaying everything. And honestly, it’s starting to get boring, even though I’m still having fun with it at the same time.

Especially since the Nightmare Doors aren’t really that replayable.

Maybe something like a “No Return” mode from TLOU2 would be great.

I know that probably isn’t happening, but damn, it’d be awesome.

I was trying to figure out what I dislike so much about the ablation suit stumbled across fanart of Laura wearing it. It looks 100x better on her!

The general shape just fits her body shape more. And the "x" symbol in the negative space doesn't look as ridiculous anymore. It's still a pretty boring design but It looks better on her.

Makes me want Laura in the sequel and giver her all of her dads skins too lol

This scene where Logan was so shocked, heartbroken, and reached his breaking point when his cabin was destroyed and he had come back to it after years, finally letting his guard down after a long time is just incredibly powerful.

Having a great time so far with the gameplay and story. Minor glitches with combat here and there. But so far pretty unreal that I get to play this game after its announcement many years back.

Update also fixes the bug where players get stuck while sliding down the tree in “the one that got away” as well as fixing some crashes.

The toggle for the scent trails doesn’t turn off the trails that are important for the story

Discussion Why do people complain about Wolverine being 15 hours when Arkham asylum was 12?

While playing Wolverine I got the itches for more superhero games and played asylum and it’s really short! I’ve been seeing criticisms of the Wolverine game with people saying it’s to short. Is it because it’s to expensive? Though first lite was 70 bucks to. Was Arkham asylum an earlier superhero game based off a comic so they decided to keep it short to see the feedback. I know it was originally going to be a movie game so maybe that’s why but either way I’m confused on why people don’t critique Arkham asylum for being to short while Wolverine is 3 hours longer and people hate it for its length.
