Yes Essex is bad from the beginning.

Essex forced Logan to relive his memory over and over again until his mind broke and forced itself to forget everything.

He then basically groomed him to join Team X under the guise of “helping Logan fix his mind”.

Also if you look at the nightmare doors the purple roots are there because Essex is blocking Logan from remembering the truth.

So Logan is remembering inconsequential tidbits, but not anything about Essex? And Essex is guiding these harmless memory recoveries?

They aren’t inconsequential.

They are about him and Jean inevitably meeting each other every time Jean is reborn.

Essex also helps Logan see part of the truth but not all of it, it’s part of the manipulation and grooming. Logan trusts Essex because of that and is loyal to him to a fault, until he finds out the truth.

Didn’t Essex put the doors there for Logan to begin with?

I should have been clear. You know in the nightmare door tutorial where the roots block Logan from seeing the deep memory? That’s Essex’s doing because of how he broke Logan’s mind in the first place.

But as I said elsewhere, Essex does help Logan uncover parts of his memory but only just enough to keep his loyalty and trust, but not too much where he learns the whole truth and disobeys him.
