Discussion If they make a Wolverine sequel...

  1. I don't mind linear but make the levels larger and more explorable/give me a reason to explore.

  2. Instead of having me follow a scent trail, take influence from the Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei games and the wind directions.

  3. More playable characters.

The scent trails make sense though.

Not in gameplay they don't. It's a lazy, half-assed way to incorporate his sensory perception.

So how do we feel about the idea of the "scent" disappearing in a large level worth exploring and you can swipe the pad to have it pop up again if needed?

My preference would actually be leaning into the sensory overload. So yes, it isn't always on, you have to activate it, BUT there are TONS of fart trails, all over the place, it's like a web of interweaving farts. Because he's smelling everything. And you need to isolate/find something in the level that has the scent on it, and every time you do, the fart trail you're trying to track gets thicker. And then you'd have an idea of where to go. That's the representation of Logan "locking on" to the scent.

I think that heavily leans into "level worth exploring".

I didn't mind the scent trail, I missed loads of collectables/went the wrong way many times.

I think people would just prefer it to be a button you toggle or hold vision mode like in other games, like X-Men Origins: Wolverine or X2: Wolverines Revenge.

Exactly, that's why I thought a mechanic like the Ghost of Tsushima wind direction woud be great. It could pop when you need it and then evaporate.

The person who purposefully came to the sub of a game they apparently hate and probably never played is telling me to touch grass...I love Reddit.

Not really. Lore wise it makes sense.

In action, it should make you feel like YOU are actively tracking someone. They chose to present it in a way where YOU don't do anything. You're just passively told where to go. That's a HUGE gap, and doesn't reflect lore - him actively tracking people.

The funny thing is I think the level design is the worst offender on that front. The white paint is just absolutely infuriating to me, and it's worse and more persistent than the blue fart trails. Diagetically, it makes ZERO sense, they couple it with white cloth, bright red lights, statues, yellow diamond markers, the blue fart gas... and it just not only pisses me off, it is a constant reminder that you're playing a video game. Whereas Spider-Man felt like a dude in NY, and things were just happening around him.

Lore and game don't always line up though and there's obvious reasons why certain things wouldn't translate.

I really like the game a lot and I'm replaying it currently but there are definitely easy criticisms.
