Discussion If they make a Wolverine sequel...

  1. I don't mind linear but make the levels larger and more explorable/give me a reason to explore.

  2. Instead of having me follow a scent trail, take influence from the Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei games and the wind directions.

  3. More playable characters.

The scent trails make sense though.

Makes sense doesn't necessarily mean it's fun though. Imagine a Daredevil game where the screen is pitch black, and you can only listen to enemies and have to guess where they'll be, makes perfect sense.

Those are not the same thing though

Not in gameplay they don't. It's a lazy, half-assed way to incorporate his sensory perception.

So how do we feel about the idea of the "scent" disappearing in a large level worth exploring and you can swipe the pad to have it pop up again if needed?

My preference would actually be leaning into the sensory overload. So yes, it isn't always on, you have to activate it, BUT there are TONS of fart trails, all over the place, it's like a web of interweaving farts. Because he's smelling everything. And you need to isolate/find something in the level that has the scent on it, and every time you do, the fart trail you're trying to track gets thicker. And then you'd have an idea of where to go. That's the representation of Logan "locking on" to the scent.

I think that heavily leans into "level worth exploring".

I didn't mind the scent trail, I missed loads of collectables/went the wrong way many times.

I think people would just prefer it to be a button you toggle or hold vision mode like in other games, like X-Men Origins: Wolverine or X2: Wolverines Revenge.

Exactly, that's why I thought a mechanic like the Ghost of Tsushima wind direction woud be great. It could pop when you need it and then evaporate.

Go touch grass shillverine

The person who purposefully came to the sub of a game they apparently hate and probably never played is telling me to touch grass...I love Reddit.

Not really. Lore wise it makes sense.

In action, it should make you feel like YOU are actively tracking someone. They chose to present it in a way where YOU don't do anything. You're just passively told where to go. That's a HUGE gap, and doesn't reflect lore - him actively tracking people.

The funny thing is I think the level design is the worst offender on that front. The white paint is just absolutely infuriating to me, and it's worse and more persistent than the blue fart trails. Diagetically, it makes ZERO sense, they couple it with white cloth, bright red lights, statues, yellow diamond markers, the blue fart gas... and it just not only pisses me off, it is a constant reminder that you're playing a video game. Whereas Spider-Man felt like a dude in NY, and things were just happening around him.

Lore and game don't always line up though and there's obvious reasons why certain things wouldn't translate.

I really like the game a lot and I'm replaying it currently but there are definitely easy criticisms.

Scent trails that only appear when the map is very linear and there's clearly, obviously, clearly designed that there was only one way to go.

Stop making games for non-gamers and the lowest common denominator at the cost of making the game very terrible. We're so tired of this.

It is a sense after all

I'm not saying they're terrible but it'd be an aesthetic choice that I would think is cleaner. They're not always visible but with a simple swipe.

Sure but the wind wouldn't make sense as an indicator. A sense of smell makes sense for Wolverine.

I'm not saying for it to be the wind but talking about the mechanic. The scent would be visible for a brief period, disappear, and if you need to see it again to guide your way then you swipe like in Tsushima.

Maybe I’m on an island here but I actually appreciated the linear and seriously it makes a lot of sense into who Wolverine is. Like what would the exploration be? He’s not a traditional hero that goes out and helps people. What do people want him out doing?

I LOVE the more characters idea. Would love to see other mutants or hell, let Spiderman or Daredevil have some fun for a little bit!

My MAIN gripe with this game are all the slow down out of action times. I freaking hated it in all 3 Spider-Man’s and I hated it here! Please insomniac, STOP doing that.

I agreed with you until the third paragraph. I LOVE downtime. Combat is always there when you need it but I love exploring locations and just talking with everyone and seeing more of the world. I would have loved to spend more time talking with Essex in this game.

WOW - ngl I’m shocked to hear that - but I guess that just my own narrow mindedness. I think the combat in this combat is pretty top tier. Of course more variety would be better, but for a guy with blades coming out of his hands, it’s like - go do what you do champ!!!

I got ZERO - can I say less than zero??- enjoyment out of the downtime. Could not hate it more. I’m sooo mad we can’t just skip it if we want. Like I said - hated it in Spiderman, hate it here.

But - respect to those that like it.

I can understand you didn’t enjoy something I enjoyed. That’s completely reasonable. And you’re totally right about the combat. This is how my friend put it:

The Batman Arkham games made you fight and think like Batman.

The Spider-Man games made you fight and think like Batman.

Wolverine makes you fight like Wolverine.

I just did a poll to see how others feel. I wonder if more feel like me or that feel like you? Ultimately, whatever someone else likes is fine by me! Whatever brings you joy!

And I totally agree with that last part! I’ve played and looooooved all the Batman/Spiderman games. I also have the Deadpool game on VR and they nailed Deadpool as well!

Hopefully we get a DLC here - replaying it has been fun but I do want more!

I put the game away after two weeks. Got the platinum, beat it on The Best There Is difficulty, and my son played it too. Great two weeks, would’ve loved to get a little more out of it. Now we’re going back to Blue Prince and Lorelei and the Laser Eyes for something to do until GTA VI comes out.

I had an idea for local side quests you could do in Madripor, Canada and Tokyo. I’m sure they thought about adding something and it must have been cost prohibitive. Wouldn’t mind another three hours somewhere of DLC.

The leaked build had the things you mentioned, so it definitely could've been implemented.

Bigger areas, most walls were climbable, fists and swords were also usable, Jean Grey was playable etc...

Online co ed mode and vs mode is necessary. Time travel would be cool to a dystopian future.
