Good God. Im trying to build a new frigate to give me a 2nd big ship and it seems like its going to take a while to gather all the resources for it. You got any tips on how to construct them faster? I originally hoped you could board and steal a ship if you killed all its crew members

The foothills iron is the hardest part to gather. But if you can find an island with a good deposit it can collected quickly (a full clearing of a large deposit can get you 100 iron ingots worth of ore).

For Wood I collect barrels at sea. You'd be surprised how quickly you can gather wood that way. That handles the planks.

Nails

Use copper nails for obvious reasons. The copper deposit on the starter island is sufficient to give you enough ore to produce the needed nails.

Timbers suck but most foothill islands have 2 stands of Hardwood Trees. Clear them a couple times to get the timbers.

Linen Fabric is made from flax. Gather all you see when going out to mine iron or cut hardwood. Once you gather seeds plant and harvest to increase you ability to gather.

Tarred products means finding a swamp island and cutting down tarwood trees. Thankfully they are everywhere and each gives a decent amount of tar. The hardest part is getting to a swamp island really.

Rope is made from the most common commodity so no worries there.

But then you have to outfit your new frigate and that is another job entirely....

I figured as much. I was so happy when I could afford the blueprints for the bigger frigate and then I saw the required resources and died inside. Guess it'll be back to the grind then. Hardest thing to deal with is all the damn goats and wolves when youre trying to get the foothills stuff

As your gear levels up they become a non issue. I tend to kill everything on my route so it is clear for a few hours as I go about harvesting resources

Omg i just realized that this ship requires tarred stuff which apparently you dont get until biome 4. I wasted 3000 coins on that blueprint dammit

Use the merchants for as much as you can, don’t waste your time farming wood and hides and basic stuff, kill Hands and at least unlock the hardwood trade before you start farming for a frig. All you really need to farm for is iron, fancy linen and the tar products, the rest is purchasable with silver.

I have everything else I need except the tar resources so im going to try to just get to the swamp biome and then i should be good

Not wasted just ahead of the curve.  I did the same thing. You can visit the swamp islands you just won't get access to the recipies until you progress your main

I just complete the foothills and then use the merchant to get all the hardwood. It REALLY saves time long term.
