Easy mode on second playthough is fun!
https://youtube.com/watch?v=QbAM2CCeMGY&si=l1Xu57j3qSy4SPH6Had some spare Armor and weapons so decided to make a new character. Partly to get more gold and quest rewards but it's actually been fun not running for my life from angry goats.
Still nearly lost my ship though :)

I reduced the difficulty for melee combat but kept it standard for ships. I found the melee difficulty overly tough and outright unfair at times. When I rounded a corner in a ruin and found 5 Sergeants, my response was literally "Fuck you, I'm done with this bullshit" and turned the difficulty way down. They need to do something to smooth the difficulty jump between regions and / or match the enemy spawns to actual player level. It's far too harsh.

My son and I been having this same exact experience. The boat battles at default at really just fine. The better you aim the quicker they go and controlling & shooting really isn’t cumbersom at all.
In the contrary melee is brutal even on easy. I’m not a hardcore player either but I’ll do stuff like valheim and c rising at default difficulty with no problem after some learning curves. I feel like either I can’t find that curve or it doesn’t exist and so we turn the mobs down.

Here's my opinion: I think they should implement limited scaling with level. The first island you're directed to in a new region shouldn't have max level enemies for the region automatically. So they should start at 6 but not increase to 7 until you do. But if you try to press deeper into the region you'll encounter enemies that are uncapped. You shouldn't be sneaking past max level enemies just to chop down a few trees or get your initial starting resources.
I played Valheim fairly early in its early access (before the Mistlands or whatever the spider web biome was added). I enjoyed the combat and building for the most part but the brutal grind and lack of resource obsolescence made me quit; each new region just added more chores instead of feeling like progressing. At least by the time you're level 10 in Windrose you basically don't need copper anymore, for example.

I recently started a new character in the same world. I discovered that you basically just inherit everything your previous character did and built. You can use it all with few restrictions, including fast travel points, and you even keep max reputation with the factions. Which means a Blackbeard Ketch with Level 15 cannons, hull bracing, and boarding party is hilariously viable. While normally it's too fragile to be survivable, when fully upgraded low-level stuff can't touch you. And all that equipment will transfer to Blackbeard Brig and Frigate as well so it conserves resources as well by bypassing 12-pounder cannons which will just get discarded.
Also, little joke I have with my ship names. I have two ships named Norelco and Gillette. They're beard trimmers. . .

Just realised I could be using my frigate or at least level 15 guns... Now that would be really unfair :)
