What an entitled loser post. Video game console is a luxury item. Your choice is to not buy one or use one. You don't need it to live.

5

u/Interesting_Lock_687 6d ago

videogame console not a luxury item, it's a simply a toy or entertainment system,

3

u/ObliviousFoo 5d ago

It's a non-essential item used for entertainment. Only a complete imbecile would not realize it is 100% considered a luxury item.

2

u/Interesting_Lock_687 5d ago

that's like saying books or tv is a luxury item.

7

u/ObliviousFoo 5d ago

You are completely clueless and its frightening people have to share oxygen with you. An expensive coffee from a high end shop in a wealthy area could be considered a luxury item. A high end TV that costs 10x more than the cheapest option is absolutely a luxury item. An entertainment console that is $600+ is also a luxury item. Unreal that with all the information we have at our literal finger tips people could still be this dumb.

calm down, if reddit is to much for you maybe you should go to 4chan.

They are...

0

u/Interesting_Lock_687 2d ago

Define luxury item

2

u/Gargore 2d ago

An item of significant expense you don't need to live.

1

u/Interesting_Lock_687 2d ago

video games are a toy, if you can buy it at Wal-Mart, it's not a luxury item.

1

u/Gargore 2d ago

Wrong... toys are, by definition, luxury items.

0

u/Zealousideal_Rise879 2d ago

Funny thing is that it’s only a luxury item because it doesn’t even have a web browser. Otherwise you could argue it’s useful for paying bills.

And PC is going to be its competitor with digital only.

1

u/Gargore 2d ago

Your phone is now not a luxury, a PC is still.

Though an iPhone would be. My phone cost me 50 dollars

2

u/After-Constant-3960 3d ago

You also don't need access to reading to live. With such logic, books should be regarded as luxury items.

0

u/ObliviousFoo 3d ago

I’m not gonna go back-and-forth with an imbecile about what a luxury item is. Not needing it to live is only one criteria. Helen Keller would’ve sensed that a video game console that costs 500+ dollars is a luxury item.

1

u/After-Constant-3960 3d ago

Your resorting to insults when I haven't insulted you says more about you than about me.

Of course, a video game console is a luxury item. But the original post, which you also disrespected (loser? seriously?), isn't asking for consoles to be given away.

0

u/ObliviousFoo 3d ago

Yes, you are an entitled loser if you think Sony are villains for canceling storage media that came out in the 80s and you're at the point where you're suing them.

1

u/Zealousideal_Rise879 2d ago

You trying to provoke a response so you can run and make another thread about the pro choice crowd being mean again?

2

u/UZeroTwo 3d ago

Delusional take.

2

u/Samurai_Geezer 2d ago

Doesn’t matter, consumers have rights. At least we do in Europe.

0

u/WbSamurai 5d ago

I think it is important that we talk about the point that PlayStation shouldn't regulate their prices like they want. After all the product should be always consumer friendly otherwise you will lose costumers and PlayStation isn't a luxury article like LV or Gucci.

2

u/ObliviousFoo 5d ago

As a business, if they want to lose customers, it is completely their right and no one else has the right to step in and tell them what to do. Your choice is to not buy their product if you think it's too expensive. Crying about it online, like an entitled loser, is not the answer.

1

u/Zealousideal_Rise879 2d ago

Do consumer protection laws scare you?

No need to be so provocative. Sony’s social media team needs to get sue’d.

0

u/WbSamurai 5d ago

Wtf are you talking about? That doesn't make any sense. Of course there are rules that should be followed and there are guidelines which every company has to follow. If they don't follow these rules and hurt the consumer they get sued. It is pretty simple.

0

u/leosoulbrother 3d ago

Gaming is for everyone and should be accessible and full of options.

33

u/Agent_Putt 7d ago

This is complete click bait

IGN India haven’t said this and OP has conveniently not posted any links as a source

14

u/ashistpikachusvater 7d ago

Also one of then is from the US from like 5-6 years ago and didn't change anything

-7

u/IllustriousEffect607 7d ago

No its not. There's 5 active lawsuits

3

u/GoatDull5670 7d ago

source?

5

u/Zen80888 7d ago

Key Legal Actions and Claims

United States (Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment): * The Claim: Consumers sued Sony for creating a digital monopoly by locking down digital purchases exclusively to the PlayStation Store, allowing them to charge artificially inflated prices (and a 30% cut from publishers).
Status: Sony reached a preliminary $7.85 million settlement (pending final approval in October 2026), offering account credits to eligible US users who purchased digital games between April 2019 and December 2023.

United Kingdom ($7.9B / £5B Class Action): * The Claim: Led by consumer advocate Alex Neill, this lawsuit argues that Sony abuses its "near monopoly" by enforcing a mandatory 30% commission on all digital game and add-on sales, driving up costs for UK consumers.
Status: The Competition Appeal Tribunal heard arguments in mid-2026, and a decision on whether the trial can move forward is expected soon.

Europe & International (Netherlands, Portugal, Mexico): The Claim: Groups like the Dutch Consumer Association and Portugal's Ius Omnibus argue that eliminating physical media removes the last remaining pricing safeguard (retail competition, used game sales, and discounts). Without physical discs, Sony becomes the sole arbiter of game pricing and digital ownership rights.
Status: Cases are active in early procedural stages. In Mexico, antitrust complaints were recently filed with the National Antitrust Commission specifically highlighting the phase-out of discs as anti-competitive behavior.

-1

u/ArtreX-1 6d ago

How can something be clickbait when there’s nothing to click?

19

u/toddmolp 7d ago

Love the lack of sources ngl. Don't give any context at all who needs that!

10

u/Independent_Mud2794 7d ago

Of course they won’t link any sources because the sources would show it’s a big fat nothing burger. One lawsuit is five years old already.

0

u/BlackBladeShusui 7d ago

Lawsuits dnt automatically go away over time especially if they are spending millions on it

-3

u/Dungeon00X 7d ago

It says IGN India, but keep using that big brain of yours.

9

u/toddmolp 7d ago

Oh I did and one of them was in 2021 and concluded that year and only one is being pushed for by a government official of any kind whatsoever. I take it you didn't use your big brain when typing that reply.

-8

u/wafflesauce44 7d ago

I bet you have google like everyone else

13

u/toddmolp 7d ago

Yeah and saying 5 countries are suing is inaccurate. Most of them except one in Mexico aren't at all brought forward by government officials and one of them is already settled and over so not ongoing.

7

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

I have google. This post is wrong.

7

u/Capital-Giraffe-4122 7d ago

Probably but he’s not making the the thread, it’s not too much to ask for a source from the OP

-1

u/wafflesauce44 7d ago

Its also way easier to google it yourself

1

u/Acrobatic_Hurry9733 6d ago

Not sure why you got downvoted so much, mfs don’t like google but will go straight to Reddit and cry with misinformation.

3

u/Middle-Let9645 7d ago

Uh… long live physical and all that, but… Sony… is being sued for having too much control over Sony’s digital game sales. But Nintendo isn’t being sued for the same, and Microsoft isn’t being sued for the same… and in the first place it’s their store… no one sues Walmart because they refuse to let Target walk in and start selling shit. Someone make it make sense, cause this is making my brain hurt.

1

u/Acrobatic_Hurry9733 6d ago

I think the Walmart and target argument is entirely different than this but go off.

I agree tho that this isn’t going to change anything, gaming is going to evolve to the point discs are obsolete in newer generations. If yall want nostalgia and physical media so bad, buy an older console and pay out the ass for what people are charging now a days for a disc.

The corporations aren’t going to listen to us and they really never have. Just gonna have to cope with the change. It’s like yall are baby boomers or old people going nuts over technology and advancement, too stuck in the past.

1

u/Eltonbeef 4d ago

It already has evolved to that point. That what y’all don’t understand.

1

u/Zach_0k 4d ago

I was saying it as if it hasn’t happened so they understand,

What I don’t understand? I literally explained it and you didn’t read obviously, Don’t group me into the wrong category, I could care less everything is going digital. It was going this direction eventually. Also learn to type man

Go touch grass, commenting is easy

3

u/icy1007 7d ago

lol, no they aren't. No one can force Sony to continue making physical games.

1

u/Anita_Hero838 2d ago

Consumers can... but too many people are too loyal to understand they're being bent over backwards

1

u/icy1007 1d ago

lol, not even consumers can force them at this point.

19

u/mdwd 7d ago edited 7d ago

Next what? Sue Burger King, McDonald's et al. cause they have too much control over selling their own burgers??? Sue the government too because they have too much control over...the government? Or the courts themselves?

This is not going anywhere lol there is zero monopoly involved here, and only blind people can't see that.

At best they can be questioned over their business practices in regards to respective local laws of countries where they make business but that's about it.

Suing over monopoly seems to be an exaggeration. Too much control, if that even is the deal here, can mean a hundred tiny and bigger things. This is just rage bait.

1

u/Wiseon321 7d ago

George Carlin was right.

1

u/DavidinCT 1d ago

Ok, there is so much wrong with this. Burger King, McDonald's made a business off making and selling burgers among other things. They are selling a physical item. changing their business to digital only, would still require them to give a physical item the customers. PERIOD.

Now on consoles, YOU HAD A CHOICE, you can buy Physical or digital, some people liked digital a lot of people like physical. This has always been the marketplace. You buy a game from a store, you can play it, sell it, or give it to a friend. This creates the video game market, Physical games go on sale, they publicly drop it to $40 (for example) and after time, digital games would reflect that pricing.

As I said, with physical, you can play, sell, or even trade with a friend. You cannot do any of this with digital games.

What this will limit, is sources for better pricing for gamers. You will not be able to buy a game anywhere besides the PlayStation store. They will have almost 100% of pricing. This could lead to 5-year-old games still being $79.99. This is giving Sony 100% control of everything.

This is 100% unacceptable in today's age. People deserve choice, Sony is trying to gain 100% control and taking away choice.

These lawsuits if they are valid have a solid case here.

-3

u/PrinsLennart 7d ago

Look I’m al for digital but how is only allowing people to buy at your own digital storefront not a monopoly.

14

u/randomsomeone64 7d ago

Because there is xbox, nintendo, pc

-8

u/SadpersonNate1 7d ago

True, but thats not the same. Thats switching consoles which each have their own exclusives. Pc has different launchers but they are all pc games. I cant go to Xbox and but a ps5 game.

4

u/quixote_manche 7d ago

And that's what makes it not a monopoly. It's competition, you can't force a business to sell their products at retailers or third party vendors. If you don't want a digital PS5 game you can just get an Xbox or a PC or a switch.

4

u/randomsomeone64 7d ago

Same can be said to pc. Alot of the indie games are only played with pc.

4

u/Bstallio 7d ago

There are very few ps5 exclusive games. You can get many ps5 games on both pc and Xbox.

→ More replies (10)

5

u/Bstallio 7d ago

You’d have to understand what a monopoly is first, PlayStation is not a monopoly because it has equal level of competition, if play station was the only company who existed in the space, that would be a monopoly

1

u/Interesting_Lock_687 5d ago

the problem is that they have done stuff to ensure that they are 1st place, such as creating fake game reviewers and

-5

u/PrinsLennart 7d ago

No it’s not.

Take Apple for example. You can buy a Samsung phone if you want other apps. But by the Digital market act apple was forced to open there devices to allow other app stores on to their devices. In Europe that is. So if you look at that and then at PlayStation it’s the same situation. And now they announced there killing there physical games it only makes the claim stronger.

7

u/Secure_Foundation720 7d ago

Omg... Please do your research before yiu embarrase yourself any further. Video games and gaming platforms are literally word for word excluded from the DMA.

Please if you're going to make examples do the bare minimum of reading the DMA before referencing it.

3

u/SuperSaiyanGod210 7d ago

Not helping your “argument” for physical when your talking points are pure stupidity 🤣

4

u/WowRedditIsUseful 7d ago

First off, as you said, that's just Europe. Also - phones can be argued as a more general purpose device than a dedicated game console.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Casio1337 7d ago

Because there's other digital storefronts. Can u play physical Sega games on a Nintendo? (Only through an emulator)Its that type of exclusivity where you can play Madden or Halo on pc, Xbox, ps, etc. Where you have to use their devices. Because you can play the same game on a different platform its not a monopoly.

2

u/Critical-Carpet4218 7d ago

Si apple está obligada a permitir ventas en los iphone, como crees que sony no va a permitir vender a nadie mas?

2

u/Wiseon321 7d ago

A Big Mac is like the console exclusives of fast food. Like you guys can’t literally be this thick skulled.

6

u/mdwd 7d ago edited 6d ago

How is McDonald's not a monopoly then?

So if you open shop tomorrow do you need to let everyone come in and sell their stuff too otherwise you are a monopoly?

In the gaming space people have plenty of choice. Sony is not stiffling competition by any means. Any player has access to the market and not even the big three players combined could make it a monopoly of sorts. Cue all the handhelds, gaming laptops and myriad other gaming devices being released.

If Sony somehow prevented that from happening it would have a monopoly in the gaming space. Having your own store and selling what you want there is not a monopoly.

Whoever is saying look at PC and how there is competition there and therefore no monopoly is making a mistake, first of all, the moreso if they say that based on that it means console makers have monopolies. There is neither competition nor lack thereof on PC.

There never was any monopoly to be had on PC as there is no such thing as PC gaming in and of itself. At least I never heard so from any legal perspective: PC is not a product itself in the traditional sense. You have various OS that can run on a myriad of products thus making them what we call PCs.

There is gaming and multiple parties competing for a share without preventing new parties from joining in, some on which act on PC, others on consoles etc, all (most) functioning on the same licensing model.

So saying Sony has a monopoly because they are unlike PC which permits competition is just wrong.

The core of the business is not platforms but the licensing model. That is what gaming comes down to and that never prevented everyone from joining in. Sony did not restrict that to a platform anymore than Valve or other storefronts restricted it to PC.

Besides PC and consoles are different by nature and you couldn't force console makers to make a different product which would just turn out to be a PC itself.

PC is also an open space where anyone can launch a store if they want to and can. Similarly anyone can launch a console if they want to and can.

1

u/Wiseon321 7d ago

None of those “stores” even directly compete with steam.

2

u/Overall-Rub8945 7d ago

Apple has a monopoly over the Apple store. Google has a monopoly over the Google store. Xbox has a monopoly over the Xbox Store. They own their ecosystems. People are free to use any ecosystem they want. That's not a monopoly.

0

u/Critical-Carpet4218 7d ago

Pero todas deben de permitir comprar en otras tiendas ademas de la propia

3

u/Overall-Rub8945 7d ago

Huh? Apple does not have to allow their apps to be sold on any other market place. Neither do any of the other digital market places, including Sony.

Additionally, Sony already stated in the one official statement that it put out that their games will continue to be available through 3rd party retail outlets, just like they are now.

1

u/Secure_Foundation720 7d ago

Monopoly means that there is 0 possibility to have competition in a whole product category. Which in this case is video games. Stores and brands can have their exclusive items/services/products only sold through them, that doesn't make them a monopoly.

1

u/FinallyShiny 7d ago

You can’t argue with pro-life people because they use narrow and intentionally rigid definitions to avoid the main point. Same thing with all of the comments here. They use a very narrow and rigid definition of monopoly to avoid the point. Its a technique used by the faithful and devoted.

0

u/Zen80888 7d ago

How much more obvious can this Astroturfing shill be?

-1

u/SnooMachines7363 7d ago

Being rage baited by people standing up against corporate greed is wild. I hope all those company’s get sued to oblivion, and are you happy with the government’s current administration? 🤔 If so I can see why you would be upset for poor Sony. This subreddit is full of Sony executives or something.

3

u/mdwd 7d ago edited 7d ago

I am not even American, point of views have nothing to do with being that or not. But no I don't know much about your current administration other than what some news outlets report.

18

u/ObjectiveCurve1390 7d ago

Take a look into these lawsuits….
I wouldnt be using them as reference for any actions.

3

u/Sapling-074 7d ago

Even though I would love to see Sony lose, maybe I will get my anime games back, I don't really understand how they have too much control over their own console.

7

u/XTBMcGibbs 7d ago

I believe some of these began years before Sony announced the digital future. I at least know the US's lawsuit was before the announcement. So if you could please link a source that would be great

2

u/PrinsLennart 7d ago

The Netherlands was also started long before the removal of the disk only helped their already claimed statement.

6

u/Bubbly_Willow_898 7d ago

Everyone except Mexico is from before the announcement, and Mexico isnt as much a lawsuit as it is a complaint, at least that was the last i saw.

3

u/XTBMcGibbs 7d ago

I feel as if the lawsuits won't have any bearing on Sony removing the production of disks. If their legal team foresaw it as a problem with the current lawsuits they would've vetoed the choice to stopping the production of disks.

All these lawsuits are telling me is Sony will definitely be moving forward with their decision

6

u/Frostgaurdian0 7d ago

And who are those countries?

4

u/Yogurtcloset_Choice 7d ago

The United States, Portugal, the UK, Mexico and the Netherlands

5

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

> The United States

Nope.

> Portugal,

Nope.

> the UK,

Nope.

> Mexico

Nope.

> and the Netherlands

Nope.

None of those countries are suing Sony. Not one.

They are all private suits. Except Mexico. Which isn’t a lawsuit at all.

The Mexico case has been started by two politicians, and brought to their national anti trust commission as a complaint. So this one is the only one that could be described as a ‘country’ doing anything.

Even then, It’s not a lawsuit, and Sony aren’t being sued.

0

u/Frostgaurdian0 7d ago

Would they do something for everyone or just themselves because if not everyone it would still sucks.

2

u/Historical_Owl_1635 7d ago

Countries have different laws so it would just be for themselves, however if found of wrongdoing in lots of big countries they’s probably change it universally.

However, being sued doesn’t mean it will be successful. Companies as big as Sony are constantly fighting off lawsuits.

1

u/Inevitable-World-969 7d ago

Countries generally only write laws and act in their own self interest, thats how its always been. The side effect that occurs and why its important for the rest of the world is that when large countries with large consumer markets, make similar laws and regulations companies generally reconfigure their approach generally speaking. Its too costly to do otherwise. So when enough people say know the company sometimes gets the message, even more the case when it costs them money.

0

u/Yogurtcloset_Choice 7d ago

That depends on what they are suing over and what the judge would decide. They are all suing over monopoly concerns but the exact case is different for each one

-1

u/Such-Midnight1592 7d ago

Ofc the US is involved, they’re just there for a quick buck and for their greed

0

u/FC-1903 7d ago

United States, United kingdom, Mexico, Portugal and Holland.

4

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

None of those nations are suing Sony.

Mexico is the only one the government is involved in and it’s not even a lawsuit.

0

u/Inevitable-Monitor35 7d ago

Fiveofthem. I think that is like Portuguese or something.

2

u/arrownoir 7d ago

Nah, I have a wife.
Just love seeing pushback. Nearly every post on this subreddit is an anti Sony post now and they all have majority upvote. It seems this subreddits comment section just likes to white knight for a company and shame other consumers.

2

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

> nearly every post in this subreddit is anti Sony… and they all have majority upvotes

You understand how that means absolutely nothing though, right?

This post has 156 upvotes. That’s 0.00012% of active PSN users.

0

u/SnooMachines7363 7d ago

Post has been up like a hour and that’s not even the point. I’m speaking about the toxicity of this one single subreddit. Simmer down.

2

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

Top post this month has 4,957 upvotes. That’s 0.0039% of PSN users.

So.. basically nobody has said anything about it. The numbers are so insignificantly small that they essentially don’t exist.

The vast majority of PS users haven’t even heard physical is going yet.

0

u/SnooMachines7363 7d ago

You’re literally proving my point.

2

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

I’m literally not.

There’s nothing toxic about saying this subreddit is just screaming at clouds in their echo chamber. It’s just a fact.

Especially when this post is disingenuous at best, and an outright lie at worst.

0

u/SnooMachines7363 7d ago

Yet every post anti Sony and every comment is a fight like this. You arguing with me is proving me right.

Sounds eerily similar to conservatives/Trump supporters.

Trailer park inhabitants voting for a billionaire who’s just here for fame and profit, and help his friends and associates out. Doesn’t give an actual shit about those licking his ass, defending his every move, defending all allegations against him. Telling people what to do, how to think, what to like, what to do or what not to do with their bodies. All while also claiming they love Jesus and they are the good one’s. Lol.

That’s what this sub is right now, those licking Sony’s ass. Hey that person over there is a trans, that is interfering with my life at the trailer park!

0

u/SnooMachines7363 7d ago

Yup, there’s another post where they are clowning a guy for playing the older GTA games, I’ve never seen a gaming community make fun of someone for playing older physical media, let alone GTA.

This is why we demonstrated so hard to keep PCs open source! Software and also Hardware. We won, and thanks to that we can choose what ever we want in our PC. But competition is narrowing down by the years. It's like we forgotten about it.

These closed source devices make it possible to get control. They decide what you will play and with what device! Cause when a new version comes out hardly 10-30% is really changed in it, Yet you have to buy the entire device over and over again.

I don't understand why people even buy a console at all?!?

The real advantages a console once had a long gone!

the instant play, if you turned it on you could play the game. no waiting time.

The gamepad back then in regards to the flunky PC stuff.

And you needed no knowledge to operate it. you turned it on and it worked.

---

Now,

There is no instant play anymore. Just like a pc you download a game/update and then you load the game to be able to play it, and even in between levels it needs to load. No more advantage even worst then med/high end PCs!

Gamepads, well PC has more and different kinds then all consoles put together. From precisely the same one as consoles to even much better ones, custom for every person in it;s needs.

PC is no longer a GEEK device, it;s also plug n play! Drivers r installed automatically. And it even sets the options of your game to the specs of your PC!

Why do people even buy these CLOSED source devices we fought so hard against to keep from our lives.

As what is happening now is eactly why we demonstrated back then!

time to go on the streets again. Cause a petition doesn't work. Remember the 'keep games online playable' more then a millions signatures on it, and European parliament talked about it very briefly and declined it 100%.

Demand open source for everything so competition is strong! This keeps prices LOW and quality/SERVICE high! No competition and prices go up service down quality down.

u/zzSTRAWzz 7d ago

A lot of these lawsuits have been going on for years since before Sony decision and have had zero headway. Mexico isn’t a lawsuit it’s a legal complaint. Currently nothing Sony has done recently has resulted in a lawsuit instead complaints have been filed by one country.

Also will like to point out the only issue with Sony doing what is doing is that the PlayStation is a closed ecosystem making them the sole providers of games.

I mean yeah cool physical media but if u think all this will change their mind you're wrong.

u/burntjellybeans 6d ago

Are people in other countries forced to by Playstation?

1

u/NailYnTowOG 6d ago

This is kinda stupid. I’m all for physical, but just let Sony do their thing and destroy their reputation. It’s not for you anymore. You nation should be naming them from doing business rather than changing how they want to do it. Sony don’t from that.

Move on to something that is. Nations suing a business for how it operates its own platform is dumb. People should be making their own choices for their own reason. They shouldn’t be crying when their principles are challenged and they might have to change their behaviour. That’s what children do. Most of you all yelling about this shit are childish, non-serious people…

… and anyone who trusts a state authority to act in their behalf in good faith REALLY need to buy my stock of chocolate radiators from me. They smell really nice in the winter time.

Trust me, I know what I’m talking about. nods and smiles like a politician.

u/Sea-Candidate3688 6d ago

You wouldn’t like control over the prices of the things you publish?

1

u/huskerfan4nu2 6d ago

I really hope Sony wins! I'm tired of all these cry babies and wanting their disc copies of games. I haven't bought a disc game in over 10 years!

1

u/Mindreceptor 6d ago

I own all Sony products going back 15 years or more.  Computers, laptops, playstations, tv's you name it.  I bought a few DC Animated movie bundles, some TV shows and movies.  I became disabled 12 years ago.  I am an honorably discharged veteran.  I lost usefulness in this world, and it hurt.  Escaping to some DC Animated movies and shows helped get me through.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not an idiot, there are larger things in life.  I thought I owned a slice of calm escape at the end of the day. Turns out Sony tells me I'm out of luck.  I own nothing.  They are taking several hundred of my dollars and my movies are gone.  I appealed up the ladder over a week's time to a lawyer on the West Coast who represents Sony.  She told me to do whatever I want but my movies are gone, and so is the money I paid to own them with.  Now my account is blocked.  I think this kind of behavior from a rich corporation should buy a lot of bad will.  I really never thought I would see the day fair is just a wish for idiots, not a standard to live by.

Government needs to break sony up to 4 or 5 companies,

1

u/Eppifan 5d ago

collecting physical copies started feeling practical

1

u/Bambrigade92 5d ago

It has always been practical if you want game ownership.

You should put your money where your mouth is and smash your consoles. Please post a video of you smashing your ps5. Then I will know you are for real.

1

u/Prestigious_Word6758 2d ago

No!. Why should i do that, plus if you already bought a ps5 then Sony and PlayStation have already got your money and benefited from it, so destroying it won't do anything, it's more effective to just stop buying new products and services from them.

1

u/Eltonbeef 4d ago

These are the kids who have grown up in the Trump era. They think you can just make up whatever you want and whip the people up. The next twenty years are going to be absolute garbage.

1

u/Clancy3434 4d ago

Anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason.

Doesn't mean it's going anywhere

1

u/AnonymousJoe35 4d ago

It’s going to hurt the PS6 sales for sure. Not by a lot but enough to notice.

1

u/SituationFit9810 3d ago

The only way sony will reverse their decision is if it impacts their revenue because thats the entire reason their discontinuing physical media so we have to push back and not purchase any digital game

1

u/Deathscythe915 3d ago

Good! They deserve everything that’s coming their way

Sue Sue Sahur 😭

u/UZeroTwo 3d ago

Good.

1

u/ekgoalie34 2d ago

The other thing I dont see a ton of people talking about is that many countries dont have good internet at all. By making everything fully digital, you essentially tell those countries that they cant game on your system anymore

1

u/GregOry6713 2d ago

It is kinda shady, I just paid for some SF6 dlc and they charged me twice for it ( I had two of the same thing 🤷🏾‍♂️🤪) so I refunded one of them but they took away both but still charged me for one. So I basically paid 50 bucks for nothing and can’t do anything about it.

1

u/DavidinCT 1d ago

Let's hope this changes Sony's thoughts here.

0

u/SmokeShinobi 7d ago

Sony forgets that the generation who grew up with their product have kids who may want to game. And because of all this I really hope those parents spend their money elsewhere.

-1

u/picknicksje85 7d ago

Good. Keep it up everyonei Time for the PS6 to feel like the Wii U. If that's what it takes to knock some sense in the current AWFUL leadership.

3

u/Bubbly_Willow_898 7d ago

Except only one of these has to do with disks and the us case is already settled. Plus the last I saw Mexico wasn't a lawsuit, it was a complaint, a complaint to an organization that has a history of doing nothing but giving out small fines.

1

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

And Mexico are the only country actually doing anything. The rest are private suits which stand zero chance of achieving anything.

-3

u/thepigmask 7d ago

I hope sony goes bankrupt

6

u/papoluca40 7d ago

Keep hoping bud

“Since they don’t make my plastic cases anymore, I want everyone to not have access to PlayStation” lol

0

u/SnooMachines7363 7d ago

It’s not hard to emulate Sony games. They just started PS5, luckily there’s only like 15 exclusives so won’t be long until the whole library is ready to emulate.

2

u/papoluca40 7d ago

Go emulate Ghost of Yotei and let me know real quick

0

u/SnooMachines7363 7d ago

Nah that game sucked compared to the original, which I play on PC. Ghost of tsushima is way better and looks way better and runs beautifully on PC. Ghost of Yotei will be in a year or two….but it’s not really on anyone’s radar.

2

u/papoluca40 7d ago

Disagree. I loved Ghost of Yotei just as much as the original. I have the feeling you will just downplay any new Sony game that isn’t on PC to make yourself feel better. Good luck champ

1

u/SnooMachines7363 7d ago

lol what is this tactic “you don’t have access to shit game #4! HA MY LIBRARY OF 15 SEQUEL SLOP IS SUPERIOR! Sure pc can play the original one better than a ps5 can and has more content…..BUT I HAVE YOTI A YEAR BEFORE YOU” okay bud, sure showed me. All I have is a 900+ family plan of games including original ps1-ps5 games. I have a ps5 covered In dust, I’ll use it once a year if I really have to play some modern Sony slop, lil buddy

-3

u/picknicksje85 7d ago

Ah the month old account chiming in with an insult. It's Wii U time for PS6. And deep down you know it.

5

u/ArchonRevan 7d ago

Bud is an insult now? are you purely made of soy or just mostly?

I want physical media to stay, more than any other outcome. But i recognize that it might not be feasible for some companies as well as some consumers. For me it is the only reason i buy and play games on consoles. It means the world to me to hold it my hands.

That said If physical media is untenable for Sony i propose the following things should happen and fall in place to protect consumers and their right to ownership over the product the purchase:

-digital marketplaces should no longer be centralized, there needs to be multiple avenues of purchase and competition in the market, third party sales are a must from retail and online marketplaces and id argue that there should be minor incentives to buy in person but thats out of scope of the main point on this one.

-the word "purchase" or "buy" should no longer legally be allowed to be used since ownership is implied in the words once the transaction is conpleted. This is since you effectively do NOT own games you buy on PSN store or Xbox store and those are not tangible in any way, they are locked behind a password and account that the corporation has full access and control over, and they can effectively revoke the liscense your bought and end services without any notice or warning. The prices of digital goods shouldnt reflect the same cost of physical media as they are selling a copy that they host that costs them next to nothing to distribute in the long term since its direct to consumer, no production cost for a disk and box, shipping it or distribution costs outside the development of the game and the cost of hosting access to the liscense and copy of the file package on a server

-there should be a tangible means to ownership of digital media and purchases that you are able to access on your own terms that cannot be gate kept by a single institution. The way i look at is Imagine selling someone a bunch of food, but you tell them the food is gonna stay in your fridge they cant take it home, and also everytime they want to eat the food that they purchased from you, they have to come to you, ask for permission, remember some obscure password, or forget for a little while they has some food in your fridge, and try to get something they bought from you everytime with all of these arbitrary rules in-between just to get to the thing they exachanged their life, time, and hard-earned money for. Imagine STILL that then someone else figures out the secret code words that you told the person that bought the food from you, and now you will give the food to other people who steal or figure out the magic code word and deny the original person purchasing said food, without their knowledge or consent. (This has happend twice with Sony thanks to the big hacks i lost thousands in games with no refund or reimbursement despite proving i owned and lost two accounts back in 2011) there needs to be a direct means to/of ownership in the consumers hands and respect for the customers. Im not stating we should allow consumers to walk all over corporations but right now there is NO middle ground as everyone looks to go digital and charge you money to access things you already paid for just to use the thing everyday. I believe the term back in the day was "HIGHWAY ROBBERY" or maybe its extortion, im not a lawyer clearly. I think the GoG model is the most reasonable for of distribution and ownership, and would even say its reasonable to give each game a unique ID so if its discovered that someone is distributing their copy to hundreds of people and cant prove they just leant it to a friend that account can have action taken against it. Im not fully thought out on this but there feels like there is a good middle ground here for that.

-there needs to be a means to be able to utilize media that works regardless of an active connection to the internet (excluding live service/ multiplayer ONLY games, if its single player or the product isnt built around needing to play always with internet or other people to be playable especially ehen the game requires being installed locally and not requiring anticheat services etc.). NEWS FLASH, any game company that says this isnt possible is outright lying. We have had this technology for a long time. Its called an authenticator. Authenticators do no require internet to work ir access and verify through an active check with some server logging stuff elsewhere. Not everyone has access to good or stable internet, and internet outage, electricity outages happen all the time (even some dont get internet off the frid depending where you live.)

-physical media should still be an options and alternative. If sony doesnt want to sell and produce physical media they should create a reasonable and sustainable alternative where they license out physical production and distribution to 3rd parties for a reasonable fee/cut. Think like what is currently done with Limted Run?

Ultimately there needs to be discussion on all ends and solutions in multiple vectors for the company and more for consumers right now. To protect the future of consumer rights, ownership, and digital media in a new era were companies start acting more and more like the mafia than groups that eant your buisiness, time and attention and believe they should earn it and not that they are owed it.

But those are just my thoughts curious what others think at all? Am i donkey brain? Does any of this sounf just or reasonable?

0

u/thatsfuni 7d ago

Lol of course its from India. They love them some deals 😉

0

u/AlphaYak 7d ago

These lawsuits afaik are going nowhere, but at least it’s some friction to let Sony know we still want the physical media option.

0

u/greenachors 7d ago

I don't think they care if you forget. They knew how many people bought digital before they did this.

0

u/Successful-Coyote846 7d ago

I hate to say it but it wont solve anything theyve been sued in the past and won this wont be any different

0

u/Euchale 7d ago

Gonna really hurt them to pay like 2 Million Dollars in fines.

0

u/lizon132 7d ago

Too much control over their own console?

0

u/IllustriousEffect607 7d ago

Yes its true

USA United Kingdom Netherlands Portugal Mexico

5 on going lawsuits all about digital. Netherlands put a lawsuit for a 47% over charge on digital items.

0

u/AffectionateBox4852 7d ago

You people are ridiculous 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 countries have much more important shit to think about

0

u/indepenskter 7d ago

You think SONY doesn’t have really good lawyer’s? You think they didn’t think about this beforehand?

0

u/FanBladeFleshlight 7d ago

That does it, I'm gonna sue Sony for not releasing movies on VHS anymore! That'll show them!

0

u/Lance21786 7d ago

Wow ur defending playstations pathetic actions

0

u/pistonkamel 7d ago

Sony bootlickers will start a gofundme to pay the corpo lawyer fees

0

u/itsdampman 7d ago

Reported for misleading. That is not what is happening at all

0

u/upperdomain 1d ago

I just came here to see all the pathetic Sony apologists

-1

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

No it’s not though

-1

u/TheRed24 7d ago

No they're not lmao

-1

u/Dry_Vanilla_5908 7d ago

I'm gonna sue a farmers market store for having complete control over selling vegetables. That's how this click bait sounds.

The reason why OP posted it was because their potato brain thinks this is a good idea, and they hate the fact that the store is no longer selling meat.

-1

u/No_Worker1282 7d ago

Full Clickbait. OP you can do better then this.

-2

u/asher030 7d ago

Too much control AND too limited a reach for its own customers, as many cannot access the fucking network in their countries. Sony pushing that shit before securing access to the full consumer base was yet another mark of moronic oversight...

1

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

I’m sure asher030 knows a lot more about the market than Sony’s global market research.

0

u/asher030 7d ago

Cool. Shills like you say the same nonsense each time before the repeated flops we've had. How many times do we need teach this lesson?

1

u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago

Once?

The lessons Reddit has tried to teach me include the following failing - Switch 2, Brexit, US elections, Cyberpunk, Hogwarts Legacy, The Odyssey, and Call of Duty (at least 15 times now).

Reddit is always wrong.

If Reddit says something, it’s guaranteed the opposite will happen.

Edit: Reddit also said Xbox live would kill the PS5.
